I almost thought "omj foramz not worken >:O", but the thread just got moved while I was posting <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />
I'm really liking the new design. The concept art in the headings is fantastic <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />
I don't know if I like the way the forums are on seperate pages with no quick links to switch between the two (www.unknownworlds.com/ns/forums/ and www.unknownworlds.com/ns2/forums/ ) but I'm sure that's just something to get used to.
Excellent work chaps!
Also, the site doesn't seem to keep me logged in when I return to it, is anyone else getting this?
Edit: fix smilies; they're what make forums forums!
Except, the default icons are kinda out of place, and the feature that allows you to give yourself a custom title after 250 posts needs to be turned off imho. That's something you should earn I think.
It seems to be fine now, perhaps I was just being stupid.
In my last post I said about the two forums, ns forums and ns2 forums... I think I was just getting really confused by the different colour schemes, ignore me <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />
Oh, just noticed one thing, it doesn't have a horizontal scroll bar when the window is too small - meaning that users on 800x600 have something cut off by default (unless it acts differently based on reso - running 1600x1200 myself), and if there's big pictures in a forum the same problem could occur :X

The new forum "Web Site Feedback" and the upgrade to IPB v2.3.1 are much appreciated and long overdue. The skin I will reserve judgement on until it's finished, which appears to be a long way off (that's for another subject).

My point was that if everyone and their mother has a custom title, you can't recognize contributers at all as you normally recognize them by a custom title.
Edit: just to clarify, there's a difference between the community recognizing a contributer, and a user browing the forum recognizing a contributer.
The latter is/has been done by having a custom title, by allowing everyone to have a custom title (read: everyone and their mother will probably get one) you can't recognize a contributer this way.
By allowing people THEMSELVES to make a custom title wouldn't make it any easier for the community to recognize a contributer - that can only happen if the community sees the contributer contributing. In fact, again, if everyone gets a custom title people who didn't know about said contributer won't be able to recognize him/her for earlier stated reason.
Way to break the YouTube tag guys. And the smileys. And these default blue buttons? Don't like them.
Everything else? Slick as a baby seal after an oil spill!
Edit: Just kidding. On Opera at least, the "Insert Special Item" thing doesn't work. Like, if choose "center" and enter my text, hitting "OK" or "Cancel" don't do anything. Neither does the little red x in the upper left which is there because that thing thinks it's on a Mac.
Edit: just to clarify, there's a difference between the community recognizing a contributer, and a user browing the forum recognizing a contributer.

[...]<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd--> Indeed there is a difference. But it was the contributors to the community and <b>NOT</b> the forum contributors that I was referring to (although they deserve the perk too). The method used by these forums prior to this upgrade was hardly fair and as already noted, was political in nature and dependent on ones popularity on #ns.
This was a good move by administration, and I appreciate enabling this feature.
Doesn't really matter what contributers we're talking about, doesn't really change that they won't be recognizable at all due to earlier stated reason.
Also, community contributers I see can come from 3 different places.
Forums, IRC channel, hosting/being part of a subcommunity.
Forums and IRC, the last one, however is often not, unless they're actually present here on the forums or on IRC (read: actually being part of the NS community, and not just a community of similar interest). Either way, signatures is a much better way to promote/show ones affliction to a certain community as you can write more, have pictures and links. Just to take a concrete example, then I have -no- idea what the hell 'modfather' means, I assume it has something to do with the modNS community - <i>as I can see a link to that in your signature</i>
And, I don't really see why someone who's not part of the community as such (ie. forums and IRC) would 'deserve' to get a custom title anyway, that doesn't mean sucking up to the 'right people' or spamming crap, it means contributing, here, where it can be seen by the community, and actually affecting the community.
<!--quoteo(post=1645310:date=Aug 25 2007, 10:29 AM:name=Dirty_Harry_Potter)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Dirty_Harry_Potter @ Aug 25 2007, 10:29 AM) <a href="index.php?act=findpost&pid=1645310"><{POST_SNAPBACK}></a></div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->[...] And, I don't really see why someone who's not part of the community as such (ie. forums and IRC) would 'deserve' to get a custom title anyway, that doesn't mean sucking up to the 'right people' or spamming crap, it means contributing, here, where it can be seen by the community, and actually affecting the community.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd--> There are many members of the NS community who don't frequent these particular forums or #naturalselection on IRC, or may frequent them but are not necessarily active. Anyway, if they're not active here, a custom title wouldn't really be much of a 'showitem' (and downright impossible if they don't have a user here), and someone having a custom title when they've given them themself it would mean they haven't been recognized by the community - that's what the community giving the custom title shows.
Now it just shows 'oh that guy has >250posts and he's put a badge on himself'
A simple analogy:
Currently the military or some other instance hands out medals to show archievements of war or whatnot.
Imagine if the tools needed needed to make said medals was readily available to everyone and the 'schematics' where too. The medal would lose its meaning, because no longer it means that earlier instance recognize the archievement of the owner - no it would for most part just means said person has made it.
Of course for some it would still show its earlier meaning - but those would be the ones deserved the medal and would get it anyway.
Similarily, if people can give themself a custom title - they no longer mean that the community ackknowledges/recognizes what someone has done for the community, it just means "lol 250+ posts".
There are of course custom titles that don't really signify 'community service' but moreso some character trait or something by the person - but one that has evovled into common knowledge/common meme in the community - thus in a sense contributing, though in a unorthodox manner.

Not that I'm complaining but when I first arrived here, I was among a handful of NS customization people who would model and skin on a regular basis. Either requests or our own concepts, very few of those people were recognized as contributors (in the sense that it's above and beyond the forums). There was one exception, but he joined much later than the original crew and was even made into a mod. That probably comes across as bitter in textual form, it's definately not though, good for him. Depot is right, a lot of people who I thought deserved at least a crappy title never got one.
Finally, I am DRAG QUEEN. I can already feel the novelty waring off.
