Well, the new website looks better and more professional than the last one, however i feel that the blue or cyan interface color on the forums are out of place and isn't really plesant to look at. The rest of the site including the new logo and artwork is so god damn awesome it rocks my pants.
Good Work guys =)

Allowing users to create their own custom title will, at the very most, cause a slight increase in spammage from those below 250 posts. It may also create a minimal amount of moderation necessary for those who will abuse the system. It is actually a good incentive to "jump in and get involved" for newbies or low posters.
Regardless, posts here since my last indicate that members really aren't qualified to judge who's a "contributor" and who's not (of course, I already realized this before the upgrade). It's obvious so much goes on in this community that others either don't recognize it or fail to realize the significance.
And it's not necessary for me or anyone to name names here - this isn't about headlines but about recognition.

Very nice update. Looks very beautiful indeed <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />.
<b>A few comments:</b> <blockquote>I had a problem logging in to my account with the new update. I had to use the recover password part of the site to get back to my account. Also when they send an email for confirmation they somehow send 2 emails... I guess I just made a mistake tho.
I'm not a big fan of the orange square surrounding the user name when someone posts something. Kind of looks out of place, along with the blue buttons. I think there should also be some time of noticeable separation between the topic title and the first post.
Also there is no evident way to get to your control panel besides clicking the messages or clicking your user name. It's nothing major, just a little confusing. Also the emoticon list when you post only has 2 icons ( <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" /> and <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" /> ).</blockquote> Besides those comments and an odd slowdown I had before, most excellent indeed. The update surprised me; I didn't think there would be such a dramatic update so soon (I thought it was going to wait until NS2 was 90 - 95% done). <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />
PS: I'm just adding my comments as I go along, updating this post as I find things.
I really like the new look all around for all of the pages. Very cohesive now too, with less dependency on NS1 alone. Fantastic work really and the site was only down <a href="http://nsoldfogies.dyndns.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=73554#73554" target="_blank">for a couple of days!</a> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />
Basically I'm using this post to go over the controls. Opera on Ubuntu. Other than the smilies not loading (I can see there is supposed to be 12 in the quick access... hmm the smily drop down shows just the two that people mentioned. <acronym title='Work in Progress'>WIP</acronym>?) things seem to be working well.

When everyone has the same access to something (in this case titles) that thing loses meaning. I'm not going to complain about it but that is just an observation.
Observe this KFDM: 34,500 members out of 35,327 total have LESS than 250 posts. This means 827 members are eligible to create their own custom title.
2.34% of this forums members are eligible to create a custom title. I ask you, does this equate to "everyone"? <img src="http://www.nsmod.org/forums/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif" border="0" class="linked-image" />

Well, I think you're getting into semantics now. The vocal majority might be only 1% or whatever, but "everyone" in that vocal majority can change their title. The percieved effect is that it seems like "everyone" can get a title.
Anyhow, all of this discussion is moot. I'm pretty sure the custom titles are here to stay, short of a (highly unlikely) database regression. Locking it and manually resetting individuals would be a huge waste of time. The other option would be to just lock everyone to the automatic titles and everyone loses their special title, re-entering custom titles, would again be a waste of time. Moving the threshold higher than 250 posts will just encourage spam posts. Locking everyone with what they have now is also pointless. Any percieved value they had is gone and you're pretty naive if you think it'll go back to the way it was with the flick of a switch. Don't get me wrong, it's a sort of a shame, but it is done.
(Unless Max or Flayra want to correct me of course.)
New site looks fab folks it's certainly easier to find your way around. One thing I miss is the frontiersmen icons although it looks like you're still using the standard ipb setup, will they be making a comeback?
Love the new website. Can't wait for Natural Selection 2. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />
I think "Ooo, shiny!" pretty much covers it. I was whining about the downtime earlier, but I think it was pretty much worth it. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />
I think I have to agree with the supporter of the old custom title system, even if many of the titles are from (by now) ancient in-jokes. Not much going back now though. Besides, it's not as if <i>everyone</i> is giving themselves a custom title. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />
Can't figure out how to set your own custom title?
"My Controls" is still missing from the userlinks bar, so to get to it you click on your name, upper right. Once there go to Personal Profile / Edit Profile Information, and if you qualify the top line will be "Custom member title".
The visual changes make no difference to me, the old stuff looked just fine too. What I do like is the IPB upgrade! So many wonderful things available to us now.
Two cents for the title debate: Could always just nuke them entirely if they've become useless/worn out <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

Just keep Custom Titles I guess, though we need to keep the "Titles" thread active and untouched so we know who all sucked up or did creative things for a custom title.
With the change allowing Custom Titles to be self-assigned if you have over 250 posts, perhaps the Admins could simply run a query in the database and delete ALL existing ones. This way we could all start from square one - no sucking up required. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />
As it is, you have your avatar and signature to express yourself or show who you are. Anything that you'd make a title could just as easily be put into the signature box.
The default titles are entirely useless too, as they are assigned merely by post count, which is displayed 3 lines down, thus making default titles redundant and useless.
Moderator-assigned titles are the only ones that actually serve something of a purpose that can't be done elsewhere. It's a little smidgen of specialness that not just anyone can have. Regardless of how they are acquired (sucking up, being in certain places, whatever) that point still stands that they hold something special.
So I think it'd be better off just getting rid of them entirely if anyone will be allowed to edit them. As said before they are redundant when we have avatars and signatures.
The custom titles are another form of personalization, much like the avatar and the signature. Each is unique and says something a little different about the user. Why do you suppose IPB made it an option for users to select their own at a certain level... could it be that they know more about what the public wants than a few disgruntled members here?
If a user can select his avatar and signature they should be able to select their title. I mean, have you seen some of the user's locations? That field should be completed by verification of zip code only. Nuff said...

Basically, it was entertaining and fun to see ways people try to attempt to get custom titles.
Remember Esuna's famous 4k post thread?
Or Zig and AllUrHiveRBelong2Us's 4000 + 5000 = 9000 post?
Or Badkarma's weird thread that gained him his awesome title.
Etc.
LOVE IT
