it's System Shock in the 60s, underwater. it looks fab but combat was never more than daze-bad-guy-with-thunderbolt-then-wrench-'em-so-they-drop.

in its defense, it's the first ever game where i stopped to check out a room's looks (it really does look that good) and it has a spooky atmosphere- i genuinely thought <i>crap i hope that thing trying to break into my transporter-pod-thing doesn't get in</i> (at the start of the demo).

So I'm wondering, is the pressure inside Rapture equal to the surrounding water, or closer to the surface. By how slowly the water comes in when tunnels break (one of the videos), I would assume it's equal to the surrounding water.

Also, if you're upset about how repetitive killing someone can be.... you should check out just about every other fps out there. You still have other options.

Actually, the pressure in Rapture is equal to 7x + y^2, where x and y are equal to whatever the hell the game developers feel like. It's not some science simulation.

So its on steam and goes retail.

An idea if you can use a retail game to unlock it on steam?

Unlikely, since that generally only happens with Valve games. The only others that work are Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, which is closely linked with Steam for a few reasons including the Source engine it uses, and Prey, which works because its previous online distribution scheme went belly-up for no reason and Steam stepped in to pick up the slack.

Well, there were also lost planet extreme condition and red orchestra <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink-fix.gif" />

But all those 4 games had a multiplayer, so I am not sure how its going to work for a SP game.

Why is it $54.95 on Steam when I've seen it advertised at $49.95 elsewhere. Huh?

steam shows 49.95 for me. Though I didn't check if that was a promo price.

Steam should have an application that scans your system and how well it'd run the games in the library.

I don't want to buy the game and having to make it look inferior to the 360 version to get a decent frame rate.

I hate it when companies do that >_< why is it always "Haha! we'll release this game later, and at a higher price, and they'll still buy it! bwahahaha!" ..

Okay okay, it might not be released later, but it's still slightly more expensive then in the US. And it's always like that, sometimes i get the feeling that game-publishers don't like the EU.

Hmmm, I think I'll wait and just pick it up at EB Games like I planned to. As awesome as having Steam crash under the load is going to be, I already paid five bucks to reserve a copy, and I want the Limited Edition one.

My Design and Drawing teacher told me about those...they sound so ###### awesome.

On topic: I almost wish i didnt download the demo, now. It just spoiled me, the opening scene sets the atmosphere perfectly (plane crash+bioshock logo with people screaming)

Defintely picking this one up first day, on 360. With a singleplayer only game like bioshock, i <i>must</i> have it running perfectly smooth and looking beatiful. My PC just cant do it...it can run it good at medium settings, but i dont want that. Bioshock is all about the immersive experience...

It might be running it at medium settings, but it'll be at a higher res than your 360, right? And mouse + keyboard totally beats "lol let's aim for you" with the gamepad. I'd wait for the PC demo to see how it runs before jumping to conclusions. Plus, on PC, you can get it via Steam!

Because it's not liking aiming with a controller is unintuitive and annoying or anything. I console game all the time and hate controlling it with a controller.

Because if a lot of people do something, it must be because it's awesome and there's no better alternative! Seriously, people are stupid. Like, 30% of XBOX360 owners had never heard of Live, or a bunch of PS3 owners didn't know their console played Blu-Ray discs? Halo, as far as a HUGE number of people are concerned, is the second best game ever, right after Halo 2. For them, that's as good as it gets. Gaming, just like practically every hobby, is something you can do on many levels, and generally the public just glomps on to something that happened to become popular regardless of its merits. Notice, for example, how The DaVinci Code sells approximately a zillion copies. Halo is like The DaVinci Code. Awful, but extremely popular, with a major motion picture following after it riding the coattails.

I don't understand why they don't add on keyboard and mouse support. It seems like it just shouldn't be that hard.

The reason they don't add keyboard/mouse support is that if the game isn't built for it, its extra coding they have to do.

Why? They can't just directly map mouse-slides-left to joystick-pushed-left?

Besides that, Halo 3 is 360 exclusive. They have no choice but to play it with a controller. You have the choice with Bioshock by playing it on PC. Bad argument.

Not quite. Think about the motions:

You move your mouse left. It moves until you stop moving, with infinite variable degrees.

You move analog stick left. It moves until you let it reset(which then SHOULD NOT reset your view), with only 2 degrees of speed(how far over it is pressed).

I'm not enough of a coder to say which would take more work, but thats how a coder explained it to me.

Or perhaps all the socialist programs in many EU countries cost money and so the government offsets the cost with higher taxes, tariffs, etc.

It's more likely that Microsoft can't be bothered adding mouse/keyboard support to the xbox 360. And I can't see that happening unless they can lock consumers into their specially branded and exorbitantly priced xbox 360 official mice and keyboards. (disgruntled xbox 360 owner here)
