That's fine. It would just be kinda annoying if it was a demo somewhere in the middle of the game. I guess I'll need to wait for the PC demo so I can see if it'll even run on my machine.

I have a 4 year old laptop so I likely won't be able to play but at least there will be a demo so I know that instead of buying a game I won't be able to play.

The demo's awesome, I'll have to get the game for PC if I can run it well. One of the best looking games I've seen.

I think my Radeon 9700 is what will disqualify me.

Is this finally a reason to upgrade to Vista? (DX10)
  • JimmehJimmeh Join Date: 2003-08-24 Member: 20173Members, Constellation
    No, since it's DX9.
  • GwahirGwahir Join Date: 2002-04-24 Member: 513Members, Constellation
    no, it isn't.

I don't think I'll play even the pc demo. I want to keep the whole thing a surprise.

    Video Card - <b>Direct X 9.0c</b> compliant video card with 128MB RAM (NVIDIA 6600 or better/ATI X1300 or better, excluding ATI X1550).

While it may support DX10, it isn't necessary.

I might try dual booting Vista/XP (if I can be arsed) to just see the difference between DX9 and 10.

Jimmeh, what you saw there was a near simultaneous post.

I was saying it was not a reason to upgrade to Vista.

Chalk up another awesome FPS that I've gotta get a new computer for.

"I am the milkman. My milk is delicious."

But seriously, PC demo coming out soon. What could be better? On steam. You fools have no reason not to at least try it. Except perhaps steam crashing and burning from all the downloads.

The way I see it, minimum requirements having nothing to do with finally having a reason to upgrade. A game could be so sexy on Dx10, even if it still supports DX9, that it would be silly not to upgrade.

Really? From what I've seen, games running in dx 10 mode don't look like much of a step up from dx 9. Plus Vista is way overpriced for what you're getting (xp with a visual upgrade anyone?).

Back to Bioshock. Played the demo yesterday and it looks really beautiful. Stunning actually. There were a few minor annoyances, such as a scripted enemy vanishing while standing in front of your view (or maybe thats a plasmid?), and the water at the beginning of the game not really matching up with the sky. I know I'm just trying to find problems, but considering that Irrational had a team dedicated to water systems in the game, you'd think that would be spot on.

The "team" dedicated to water was more like one guy.

So for those of us who have played the demo, I'm going to start the rampant speculation.

...Where does our hero get those chain tattoos? He certainly didn't have them before the crash.

Actually, according to the <a href="http://www.2kgames.com/cultofrapture/artbook.html" target="_blank">Art Book</a> it was one guy for a few weeks.

Edit: And if anyone is as enamored as I am and wants to try Hard Mode: Go into your settings and put "Hard" as your preferred difficulty. When you start the demo up it will already be highlighted. Don't move the cursor or you'll have to restart the demo to access it again.

<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd--> The fact that they just sorta put out the art book like that is simply amazing to me <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

I love the comment about taking it to the print shop to get it done and bound (though a good number of them will yell at you and tell you they will not work with copyrighted materials:P)

    Also that they include the spoiler warning <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

Man, I wish all games were sold on steam so I didn't have to worry about getting them from amazon and all that.
