    Ok I had another idea how about an alien that can split-off into two after it feeds on a number of Rihne's like a mobile spawn point it could be a new gorge ability to counter the emergency beacon.

    o and could the hive have a Cthulhu feel?

    i think they should make more water levels and make a specefic species for that certain level so its not on some levels but on others its like with alot more water theres like an octopus type monster you can also make a cooler flier like a glider (in ur concept art) idk just suggestions and for those water levels maybe give marines swimming gear or water proof weapons

    Here's a thought, it came to me as I was thinking of the "hedgehog" idea put forth before.

    The Offense Chamber has evolved and is now a life form. A kind of early defensive creature for the Kharaa, it is this little spikey ball of terror.

    Try to picture a pill bug, also known as wood bugs. They are little gray guys that you find under things mostly. When you touch them, they roll up into a ball. Combine that with the image of a hedge hog or a porcupine in your mind, like all spikey all over their carapace.

    They would serve as a defense creature, moving slow in their half sphere spikes all sticking up posture, mainly meant to deny a certain passage way to the marines. They would have a ranged spike shooting attack that would drain energy fast and an up close powerful spike attack that would drain energy slowly. A movement ability where they ball up and roll around trying to hit things with their spikes and finally an ability that injects a poison that paralyzes their enemies, like a sea urchin.

    Trying to draw inspiration from spikey, round (or semi round) creatures that already exist.

    Plus, just also trying to address a concern that the immobility of offense chambers made them seem rather useless, and thus a waste of res, for the Kharaa team.

    Might I suggest the name of Spikey. While that may be already taken up by Nintendo's Mario game, any other ideas?

    Perhaps change the Offense Chamber to spit out spikey balls that roll towards the marines, kind of like the magnetic balls in HL2 that would come after Gordon Freeman to shock him.

    Critters, good one. Now instead of hairy, kind of an armadilo covered in spikes, and get rid of the big grin face, go with a more snout like face, to match what we have with the gorge, skulk, and fade.

    "They come from outer space and they're hungry." This is a quote I imagine would go well with skulks.

    What the heck here goes.

    <img src="http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2007-7/1268270/Brutus.jpg" border="0" alt="IPB Image" />

    Alien: Brutus.

    Height: 7-8 feet.

    Weight: 300+ pounds.

    As the Kharaa came under attack by more and more Frontiersmen, they began to "study" human physiology. From this came their answer to the human invasion. The Brutus is a human-based alien, designed specifically to counter early marine activity, to hold them off until more powerful Fades and Onos can arrive on the battlefield.

    Res cost: 35.

    HP:500

    AP:80

    Movement speed:Same as fade.

    Moves.

    Pummel: The Brutus bludgeons his target with his arms. 60 damage.

    Slam: The Brutus delivers a single powerful, slow blow with both arms. This attack uses all adrenaline. Damage 120.

    Concentrate: The Brutus concentrates on the hive-mind, allowing it to see marine positions over the map, unable to move or attack while concentrating.

    Lunge: The Brutus lunges forward at high speed, costs no adrenaline. Lung has half the range of leap.

    Welcome to message boards, someone takes the time to make a thought-out post and it gets totally ignored for something that took 5 minutes in paint.

    What the heck here goes.

    Alien: Brutus.

    TEXT GOES HERE
    <!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    That thing is really, really creepy looking.

    Consider rethinking its skills tho, such big slow moving thing would easily be mowed down by 1 or 2 marines (all 50 bullets in a lmg does 500 damage, at zero upgrades, then add 200 damage for the pistol). Flip Lunge and Concentrate and it may have potential.

    <!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->Scoutling (my favorite name)

    Overall:
    A very small 5res lifeform.
    Capable of providing hivesight "Scent of Fear"-lvl2 to fellow creatures of the kharaa.
    Main job would be to spy on the TSA's progress with stealthy approach.
    Does lighter and very quiet "tick" sounds.

    Has cloak lvl1 BUT not the invisibility(!)
    Instead, it should allow the Scoutling to move into OBS scanned perimeters. Thus not appearing on motiontracking unless the Scoutling has suffered dmg recently.

    Scoutling should have the ability to "leech" res from marine RT nodes.
    The Scoutling would have a pool of (0/7) to fill and can return it to a gorge or hive by +USE command (that "e" key).

    Cons:
    Cannot gestate into Gorge immediately and requires longer time to re-gestate into skulk.
    <!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    Idea tangential to this, You spawn as a scoutling as you wait to spawn as a skulk. There should be a penalty for dying as a scoutling, and the scoutling should have parasite, maybe one that only works when the person is on infestation.

    I like the res stealing idea because I think the kharaa have realized the importance of resource nodes and seek to attack along this avenue.

    Thanks for the replies guys, I see it does need some re balancing. Here are some ideas.

    First off, my original concept of this guy was to have him move like this.

    <img src="http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2007-7/1268270/Brutusmotioncopy.jpg" border="0" alt="IPB Image" />

    As you can see, even his "Normal" walk is very quick, and also very low profile. If I didn't illustrate it coherently enough, basically picture an ape running, only it leaps higher.

    I'm gonna describe my vision for this guy now.

    When the game starts, Marines (If they're equally skilled) have an advantage, no upgrade one hive skulks shouldn't be able to kill a competent marine. A lot of the time, marines will either; A) make a mini base and siege the hive, or B) Shotgun rush. Hopefully a skilled Brutus player will be able to remedy this.

    The "Slam" attack is designed for one hitting un-upgraded rines, allowing the Brutus to take out three early rines at a time, if played correctly. Of course later in the game, with more upgrades, the Brutus should be able to take out one rine with only minimal effort.

    Any ideas to improve this alien either visually or conceptually I welcome.

    either make it cost more res or drastically reduce its hp

    90 second 500 hp lifeform that can one-hit marines?
  • TheritesTherites Join Date: 2004-09-08 Member: 31525Members
    Its still gonna die real fast though, and it one hits them at the cost of all energy, which means you would only one hit at the end of a fight, or one on one. HP goes fast, with small armor, that's why I gave it a lot of HP but low armor. High end weapons will chew it up good, but vs LMG it will have a chance. Res could be upped to 40, but its getting pretty close to fade at that point.

    Maybe a creature that has the ability to morph. And especially adding the feature of morphing into a marine as a tactical advantage to the aliens, or just a get away defense mechanism. Maybe as the creature/marine is in sight, it will choose the morph mechanism and take their form. Id suggest the alien to be a small creature like an enlarged version of a chameleon. Another advantage of the creature is jumping into a dead soldiers body and taking control of it. A way of knowing the creature isnt a marine is by not noticing it on the radar, or maybe a little infestation or slimy material drooping from the body somewhere. And the usage of the body is limited... The possibilities are endless..

    It has prolly been mentioned a few times already but i would love to see babblers (think that was the name) come back, or some sort of ability to generate a 'dummy' alien which could be used as a distraction.
