Ewww dirty Goon Swarm, why sell your soul briktal?

I've just subscribed and was hoping to play tonight but my payment is taking ages to go through. I've got a friend who is part of AXE who is going to put me forward for membership so hopefully I'll be in 0.0 space in no time.

That reminds me: Freighter wrecks can contain loot now, right? (Unless everything was in one container which blew up of course)

Seriously the lag caused by that was insane. By the time I finally saw my ship destroyed and was in my pod, my shields had regened to nearly 50%. Then I got about .5-1 FPS for a few minutes as I struggled to move my ship away from a bubble and warp out. Probably took at least 5 minutes for the killmail to show up too. Honestly, we were surprised the node didn't completely crash.

I logged onto EVE TV just in time to see my old alliance-mate, Tyrrax's, Imperial Issue Apocalypse get destroyed, one of only two left in the game. After catching the tail-end of EVE history, once again, I decided to reactivate my account this evening and now downloading the client at unbearably slow speeds.

It's not just <i>some</i> tournament. It's THE third alliance tournament where all alliances (or at least the 50+ biggest ones) field a fleet of ships 5 on 5, one of each ship class using named or faction guns/modules (no T2) and beat the hell out of each other in order to claim victory.

    <b>It's</b> <b>bad-</b><b>a</b><b>ss</b>.

The previous alliance tournament had a <i>mothership</i> as the victory prize along with some other lesser ships. Motherships are HARD to make without their production getting blown up, and expensive as christ because of it. Almost as hard as making titans <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink-fix.gif" /> (of which there are now THREE in the game. All Avatars (amarrian titans))

Too big... no sense of direction. I've played on and off on trials around three or four different times since it's release.

Oh, and I was a beta tester.

It's awesome that someone got a freaking titan, though. They were merely legends back in my day. Oh, and I also heard about that one guy, who had the fake corporation "ZZBest" or something, who basically caused a complete reboot of the economy in Eve. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink-fix.gif" /> Good times.

I know, but it's still kind of pretty much a tournament. Too bad Tyrrax went insane after losing his Impoc and declared war on ISS. I'm going back to Empire to find myself some direction again. I'm not having fun in IAC/Mercurialis Inc, and after coming back I forgot completely what I'm doing. My skills are a little convuluted... I'm in a Battlecruiser with decent tanking and weapon skills, but all my EW and stuff is lagging way behind.

I gave the game another chance and definitely like the feel of it, but it feels like the majority of the game is spent waiting for your ship to warp around places. Still, I was having some fun with it and may subscribe. I managed to save up for a destroyer and the skill to use it on my first day, which at least made it feel like I was making progress =p of course I'm sure I'll lose it rq.

still, the world is so huge and confusing. no clue what skills to bother with or what ships or what ship parts. you can actually buy mining stations and stuff to mine while you're not at the computer, and factories to make stuff?

I still don't know the advantages of low-sec space or the real difference between high and low sec. if you attack someone in 1.0, the guards will take you down in a second, right? what happens if you attack someone in .5? .1? in .0 I assume npc guards are a non-issue. and is everything worth more in low-sec space? if something is worth, say, 1000 in 1.0 space how much would it be worth in 0.0?

1.0-.5 security is "secure". So 90% of the time anybody who tries to kill you will be popped right quick. Of course this isn't to say somebody with a tanked our scorpion with 30k shields can't destroy you before Concorde gets em, but that doesn't happen often. .4-.1, the only security is the sentry turrets by gates and stations, and they get weaker the lower the security. In 0.0 there are no turrets at gates, and the ones by stations won't fire unless you attack the station itself (most of the time). Also, killing somebody in 0.0 doesn't give you any kind of security status hit. 0.0 is MUCH more profitable however. NPCs with bounties up in the multiple millions, that can drop mods worth 100x that. The ore there is also worth tons, since most of it is rich in zydrine/megacyte/morphite. All of which are high price items. It's basically a trade off of risk vs reward. You could make more money in 1 day in 0.0 then in a week in empire, but you could also lose everything you had with you in a 10 second fight. Risk vs Reward, pretty much what Eve is about.

Edit: Also on the topic of choosing skills: look for mods and stuff you like the sound of, then just train the skills needed for those. Most of the early level skills only take like 15 minutes to train and the books themselves cost pennies, so it's easy to "learn as you go" as it would be. That's what I did, "Gee I wish I had more powergrid, oh hey that mod increases grid by 15%, what skills does it take?". Then after you have a basic groundwork (Engineering, mechanic, social, gunnery, etc) you can start to specialise on 1 aspect of something. For me I have all my points in elite frigate related stuff (The harpy to be exact <3 Tech II small neutron blasters own face). So I have every skill that increases PG and CPU, so I can fit just about anything to my ship. I've got level 5 of every small weapon skill (Or close to it). All the afterburner skills so I can move fast, etc etc. You have to understand that, if you spend a few months specifically training for 1 thing, you can get to the point where you are as good if not better with that 1 thing then the people who have been playing for years.

The "normal" battleship npcs in 0.0 are worth 500k-~2m. Then there's faction spawns (drops faction loot, worth up to a bil or 2, mostly worth between 5-30m though), which can be worth up to about 10m or so, and also officer spawns (officer loot is some of the best loot of the game, some of it sells for multiple billions) which are 15m+ afaik.

Faction and officer spawns are kinda rare though. Back when I ratted a lot (hardcore from I get up til I go to bed ratting), I got maybe about 3-4 faction spawns pr week, and faction loot only gets dropped by about 1 outta 3. I've never had an officer spawn.

Tyrrax's Impoc is the 2nd uberrare ship he has lost. He also lost the golden magnate (unique ship) in pvp quite some time ago. Quite the EVE legend imo.

    Holy mother of god.

It's strange that the model for the titan jittered about so strangely every time a missile hit it... I hope they get that fixed, it just wasn't satisfying watching them kill it in the video.

It's funny because yesterday in IRC everyone was telling me how awesome and nigh unkillable a titan was.

Except when you have an idiot pilot it.

So, haw haw haw and etc.

Man, I wouldn't want to be the twit who was flying it at the time.

Basically, a Titan should be more or less unkillable because it should never be somewhere where it can get killed.

also, this makes me really mad because it means that if/when we kill LV's titan (maybe when Enslaver's mom yells at him for being up past his bedtime or something) it won't be the first titan kill.

Oh, and all of the cap ships (not too sure about freighters though) do that weird bouncy thing. I'm not sure what all causes it, regular missile, guns, etc, but it happens.
