<div class="IPBDescription">and other cooling blunders</div> It's that time of year again, where its just sooo damn hot.
I live in NC, and its been 90s and such here for the past few days, not the worst we've had, but me being born in Detroit, I can't stand it. Personally, I like 70's.
Anyways, we just turned our AC on, and I wanted to know, how many of you try and hold it out as long as you can for fear of high cooling bill?
How many of you still don't have your AC on? Who does?
AND WHY DOES IT COST SO MUCH? <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Middle europe generally... the weather just sucks here... we had 3 days of sun... I hate it.
It keeps the house nice and cool, all summer long. I can leave it on all day and not worry about a bill, as it costs no more than running a fan all day, which is what I've noticed people with AC tend to do to save on the ecectricity bill, and it doesn't work well <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
The rest of the time is either windy raining snowing or all depending on where you are.
Also, I have a friend who lives in Regina, Im thinking of going up there a few times during the summer, cause it's SO HOT.

Nah nah nah, its not windy, rainy or snowing in summer, you're thinking of Spring, Autumn and Winter.
During Summer, every other day its overcast, I don't even look out the window anymore, I know its overcast.
where i am in UK its about 16oC. Supposed to get up to about 23oC later in the week. Both of those are shorts and sunbathing weather here.
Anything that heats or cools uses a lot of electricity: air conditioners, heaters, water heaters, refrigerators (not to bad), clothes dryers, etc.
I haven't turned the AC on yet, and I won't untill we hit our first 100 degree day. :-)
you'd be taking that back if you were living in a tropical southern US climate (during the summer reg 90% humidity 90-110 degrees where i used to live in texas).
first thing i plan to do after college is move according to how decent a job i can find, and how cold the weather is, with priority placed on the latter

For barbequing and cooking, and melting ice, and welding and soldering, and creating molten steel, etc. Hahaha
Air conditioning here is not a luxury, it's a necessity. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Anyways, I got my AC on right now, keeping the facility at a pleasant 68 degrees fahrenheit.
Irish + Slavic genes = melts easily.
I volunteered for a charity golf tourney today, and it was hotter than sin outside all day.
Pawling, but I go all the way to LaGrangeville for school... AHS, to be precise.
edit: Just checked Mapquest and you're about as far away as is possible while remaining in NYS. All the way up there and the heat is still bad?
Thank god I'm back home where it's a cool 65 and low humidity <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Indeed it does. In my working days I got off at work in the heat of the day (frequently upper 90's), drove home and donned my running gear, then ran 10k in little shade. This I did year round (hydration and acclimation was the key).
It would take me HOURS for my core temperature to drop back down, but about bed time I was back to normal.
I don't tolerate the heat like I used to. This time of year I have all my outdoor chores done by noonish.
I'm very happy to be living in Iceland. Northern europe has very nice temps all year round.
Right now, my uncle is visiting Sri Lanka and he called the other day, he said he'd rather be dead then live there. It was so hot.
I'm happy in 15-25 in the summer here and 5 to -10°c in the winter.

Pawling! Is Pawling Rubber (or whatever it was called) still open down there? In my earlier driving days (when I lived in Hudson) I used to pickup and deliver in Pawling, Mahopac, etc.
Move to Florida - all the schools are air conditioned! <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Unbearably hot. But what's worse is the humidity, it's always sticky up here.
EVERY house here has atleast 1 aircon system.
In summer, ours is on 24/7 due to the temps being around 40 degrees C during the day (around that or higher)
