<div class="IPBDescription">and other cooling blunders</div> It's that time of year again, where its just sooo damn hot.
I live in NC, and its been 90s and such here for the past few days, not the worst we've had, but me being born in Detroit, I can't stand it. Personally, I like 70's.

Anyways, we just turned our AC on, and I wanted to know, how many of you try and hold it out as long as you can for fear of high cooling bill?

How many of you still don't have your AC on? Who does?
AND WHY DOES IT COST SO MUCH? <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Be happy you need to have AC at all. Here in Canada warm is only 25 celsius or so.

    25C is nice. I don't know what you're complaining about.

    I love my swamp cooler. Water cooled air = cheaper than AC <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    It keeps the house nice and cool, all summer long. I can leave it on all day and not worry about a bill, as it costs no more than running a fan all day, which is what I've noticed people with AC tend to do to save on the ecectricity bill, and it doesn't work well <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Nah nah nah, its not windy, rainy or snowing in summer, you're thinking of Spring, Autumn and Winter.

    During Summer, every other day its overcast, I don't even look out the window anymore, I know its overcast.

    Where in europe urinal? it's a pretty f**king big place.

    where i am in UK its about 16oC. Supposed to get up to about 23oC later in the week. Both of those are shorts and sunbathing weather here.

    Living in Florida, I am used to the A/C. However, mine doesn't come on until it hits 78F. Up to Memorial Day or so I did well with just the windows being open.

    Anything that heats or cools uses a lot of electricity: air conditioners, heaters, water heaters, refrigerators (not to bad), clothes dryers, etc.

    We turned the AC on yesterday for the first time since it was almost 90˚F. And then it got better (not in a good way). Since I had a party yesterday, we were all outside though, and when we finally came inside because it was starting to storm (and we wanted to get cooled off), the power went out. So it was basically like a sweatshop with so many people w/o any fans or any other means to keep cool (except water, etc).

    Heat is good.

    I haven't turned the AC on yet, and I won't untill we hit our first 100 degree day. :-)

    let's see I live in Sweden and here it currently is around 15 degrees. A week back when it was sunny we had up to 35 degrees (in the sun). This crappy weather just needs to blow past.

    you'd be taking that back if you were living in a tropical southern US climate (during the summer reg 90% humidity 90-110 degrees where i used to live in texas).

    first thing i plan to do after college is move according to how decent a job i can find, and how cold the weather is, with priority placed on the latter

    For barbequing and cooking, and melting ice, and welding and soldering, and creating molten steel, etc. Hahaha

    Air conditioning here is not a luxury, it's a necessity. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    It's been in the 80s here in Upstate NY for the past few days. I almost friggin' died in my 7th period class today, it was literally around 100 degrees in there.

    Anyways, I got my AC on right now, keeping the facility at a pleasant 68 degrees fahrenheit.

    Irish + Slavic genes = melts easily.

    Where are you in Upstate NY, Tommy? Rochester area myself, and I couldn't agree more, this heat flipping sucks the big one. Especially going without AC, cause my house is far too old for central air to even work.

    I volunteered for a charity golf tourney today, and it was hotter than sin outside all day.

    edit: Just checked Mapquest and you're about as far away as is possible while remaining in NYS. All the way up there and the heat is still bad?

    I went to India a few weeks ago and I will never complain about minnesota summers again. Not that I should in the first place. But the 109* weather there gave me a new apreciation for minnesota.

    Our school has no air conditioning. So today it's ya know, 90 degrees (Fahrenheit) and a 150% chance of "ewww" in the air. This means it feels about 110 in the classrooms, using what we'll call a figurative heat index. Everyone leaves sweat imprints on all the classroom seats, and people barf left and right. Including one girl on my bus (GOD DID THAT SMELL).

    Thank god I'm back home where it's a cool 65 and low humidity <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Indeed it does. In my working days I got off at work in the heat of the day (frequently upper 90's), drove home and donned my running gear, then ran 10k in little shade. This I did year round (hydration and acclimation was the key).

    It would take me HOURS for my core temperature to drop back down, but about bed time I was back to normal.

    I don't tolerate the heat like I used to. This time of year I have all my outdoor chores done by noonish.

    I really do feel sorry for people who live in very warm areas. It's no joke, the heat can make you want to kill yourself.

    I'm very happy to be living in Iceland. Northern europe has very nice temps all year round.

    Right now, my uncle is visiting Sri Lanka and he called the other day, he said he'd rather be dead then live there. It was so hot.

    I'm happy in 15-25 in the summer here and 5 to -10°c in the winter.

    Pawling! Is Pawling Rubber (or whatever it was called) still open down there? In my earlier driving days (when I lived in Hudson) I used to pickup and deliver in Pawling, Mahopac, etc.

    Move to Florida - all the schools are air conditioned! <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Unbearably hot. But what's worse is the humidity, it's always sticky up here.

    i live in outback australia.
    EVERY house here has atleast 1 aircon system.

    In summer, ours is on 24/7 due to the temps being around 40 degrees C during the day (around that or higher)
