That is not a B-17, it is a Junker or a Messer-schmitt.

Spellings are off, but I'm sure Nemmy can assist with that german side of things.

It's a captured B-17, Cyn.

The Dual propellers and the tailfin give it away.

A Meserschmit was a German fighter plane if I'm not mistaken.

Junker-Jus and Messerschmitts were much smaller than B-17s I believe, well certainly the M's. They were fighters rather than bombers (though I think the Junkers had bombs attached, did dive bombing and all that malarkey)

Yup, upon actually looking at pictures, the JU-57 was the closest I could find to the B-17, it also has the possiblity of being a modified SUNDERLAND MKIII, or a german knock-off plane.

From linked source above...

Allied bombers in Luftwaffe service

During the war, the Luftwaffe downed many allied bombers over german held territory. Others landed because of technical problems. Some of these bombers remained flyable. Initially these captured bombers, such as american B-17s and B-24s and russian Pe-2s and Tupolevs and other aircraft, were flown by the Luftwaffe for studying their capabilities for intelligence and technological analysis. These test-flown bombers were given Luftwaffe markings, like the one in the picture above.

That's the stupidest comment ever. Anyone can enjoy cute asian chicks, but it takes an aficionado/nerd to discuss a picture of a B-17 captured by the Germans in WW2.

Pfft, is it me or are all of you lot paranoid? Elitebear didn't say being a nerd was either good or bad. He could have simply been referring to the depth and breadth of our general knowledge or our impressive ability to discuss all possible parts of a subject instead skipping all the good stuff and just giving an answer...

Be proud of your nerdiness, you need a bit of positive mental geekitude in your lives!

[Edit] Just thought I'd share the horrible image I just had as I pushed post. A Bill Gates excercise video... if I get to have nightmares then so do you.

Maybe chuck in some excercises by Bill Roper or Molyneux as well [/Edit]

That is indeed a B17, mark B if I am correct

Powerful twin tail guns
side mounted turrets
foward turrets and front mounted cannon
but, unless it's just camera angle, NO BALL TURRET

That is why I believe it's the B-17b Flying Fortress, captured and re-marked by the Germans

EDIT- my Grandfather flew in a mark c variant He wound up breaking his wrist when he had to help his other side gunner un-jam his weapon, which he did by SLAMMING HIS WRIST HARD INTO THE RECOIL MECHANISM! And wow at that big-**** Junkers, didn't realise they did bombers too...thats a pretty darn impressive plane for WW2...

When I said I thought they were smaller, I was thinking along the lines of Stuka dive bombers (Ju87), but still...wow.
