still a lot above what I'd like to pay though :/

I dunno... maybe I'll get it. Like I said the original plan was to just buy both instead of going "omg! incorrect statement supporting why my console is teh win!".

The DS titles are no more a collection of N64 rehashes than the PSP is only PS2/PSX rehashes. There's a lot of original titles on both.
There's not a lot of titles on the PSP that excite me mind you, but I'm happy to buy something for a few things as long as I feel it validates the cost of the console itself :3

Hope they release those surgeon games they have for the DS over in japan in this country... they look funny ^^

I agree, but can not comment for sure until I try a PSP. I love my DS though... The games that are out are kind of weak though. 'tis my only complaint.
I'm just damn glad they bundled it with the metroid demo.

Remember that the PSP and DS are aming for different markets.
  • SnidelySnidely Join Date: 2003-02-04 Member: 13098Members
I'm not sure the handheld market has enough room for both DS and PSP regardless of who they're aiming for. Most people are going to only opt for one handheld, unlike consoles. (I know a fair few people who have two of the current generation consoles. I never knew anyone who had both a Lynx/Game Gear/GT and a Game Boy, except for when the non-Game Boy ones died out.)

Well I was one of them. Game Boy + Game Gear. Preferred the Game Boy because you could actually play without wasting all your money on batteries, and (without wasting your game time changing them)

I love Nintendo; I dislike Sony.

That said, if Nintendo screws up the DS after Gameboy, Gameboy Colour, AND the Gameboy Advance, I have little hope for anything Nintendo does in the future. They've dominated the hand-held market for years, and if Sony can manage to upstage them, they've fallen indeed.

It's still a damn shame a huge chunk of the market won't play "kiddy" games unless they're on PS2. Guess they're not kiddy until they're put on the 'Cube, eh? I want Gamecube-quality games for PS2 that aren't filled with blood, gore, and raping puppies.

    Wee...off-topic ranting.

True, both consoles aim for different markets.
However,I admit I am impressed by the DS's easy to use system. I was expecting a clumsy lay-out,but it does well to spread itself out comfortably.
However, the PSP still seems the more promising, but I'll be smart enough to try it first and get a full picture of it before forking out on it.

Anything is possible, sony surprised everyone when the 1st playstation managed to actually engage in competition directly with nintendo's n64 (and IMO they won that era, aswell as this current generation due to better games)

    Who needs a PSP?

I've got a 27" flatscreen in my room.

    And it only cost $170.
    My gamecube cost $100.

    That's a PSP right there...but better.

I also have surround sound, and a DVD player. And a waterbed.

(actually I want a PSP...but they cost so fricken much).

PSP FTW. All my friends got PSPs except one, and he is **** that he has been left with such an inferior product. I assume everyone on these forums already knows the technical differences, so all I have to say is that we like the capabilities and games of the PSP a lot more than those of the DS.

P.S.: The only Nintendo games I've ever liked were the Metroids. That's it. The rest I've tried and laughed at.

Just give me wi-fi Resident Evil on the PSP and I'd be in heaven. Even if it was simply a port of the Outbreak games.

Take that as a hint, Sony.

    £179 eh.....

Except I just spent nearly the exact same amount on a 19" TFT, and I know which I'll use more.

It's not I don't want a PSP, just I can think of lots of things I'd get more milage out of for £179. The justification behind hardware pricing has become something of a farce in general, and not just for consoles.

I'm going to pass on the PlayStation Portable. I've owned a SEGA Game Gear and a Nintendo Gameboy Advance SP, and have gotten rid of both. The games aren't immersive or interesting enough to warrant their price tags, and the battery life is such that I feel too tethered to a power cord (especially with the Game Gear, oh boy).

The design of the PSP isn't all that great, either; why design a system without protection for the screen? Nintendo played it smart and provided flip screens on their latest portables; if only Sony would do the same.

Overall I've been more impressed with Sony video game products than those from Nintendo (both in games and gaming devices), but I think Nintendo played it smart with their latest portables; at least, smarter than Sony.

To be honest, neither handheld's library of launch games is very impressive. That'll be the day...the day when there is actually more than one good game at launch. The upcoming lineup for the DS impresses me much more than the PSP. On top of that...$250 for a handheld? No way.
