Vioce Comms

Great for Phscological Warfare
alright marines, how many times have you been chasing a gorge and he runs away behind the one RT he built.... you could just run at him and hope you kill the gorge before his spit and OC kill you... or you can be smart about it

here's what I recomend.... call for a medpack! even with full health the gorge doesn't know that you don't, he'll think your really weak and easy spit kill for him... and lets be honest gorges who doesn't like spit killing? I find that about 50% of the time doing this will lure out the gorge for an easy kill, then with the gorge gone you can get some ammo and take down the lone OC with great ease

this is only one example of the many times when using vioce comms can be a good way to trick aliens into playing into your hand

yo no comprendo,

explain again please? I dont really understand it. If you call for medpack, then doesnt alltalk have to be on for the gorge to hear you? and by the time the comm gives you a medpack, you would have picked it up by now and the gorge will know you are back at full heal th anyway??? ?_?
• AvengerXAvengerX Join Date: 2004-03-20 Member: 27459Banned
no.... you call for a medpack even tho you ARE full health, and the gorge will try to kill you before you get the med pack (cuz lets face it... most comms are pretty busy so gorges know it takes time)
• ZephyrYHKZephyrYHK Join Date: 2004-04-23 Member: 28130Members
are we assuming that we are typing in chat for a medpack so aliens can hear
or alltalk is on?
• AvengerXAvengerX Join Date: 2004-03-20 Member: 27459Banned
no.....you use the voice commands... when you right click and that little menue comes up... you can go to shout/medpack and your marine will say "need medpack" and the aliens nearbye can hear that... thus the whole lure and trap
• Rapier7Rapier7 Join Date: 2004-02-05 Member: 26108Members
I'm a fast comm, I get to requests in under a second, usually without thinking.

Good idea though, if you have a crappy comm.
• AvengerXAvengerX Join Date: 2004-03-20 Member: 27459Banned
well its not hard cuz ya just have to click the little icon then type in the fast keys and BAM ya got it... but most comms are slower then that

I don't understand. Why would this change the gorge's behavior at all?
• illhillh Join Date: 2004-08-31 Member: 31104Members
You call for a medpack via the mouse2 menu and in doing so, your rine makes a voice command aloud and to the commander for a medpack so the gorge thinks you're low on health and attempts to rush you, to no avail if you have a good amount of health. This is essentially a tactic to trick idiots into thinking you're an idiot and most likely works well in a most pubs.

Same with ammo.
But this stopped working after most aliens realized that the marines are tricking them.

yeah i used to love clicking my empty pistol a few times then going need ammo and swiping my knife a few times

Then lmging the skulk as he came around the corner

Technically it could work, but normally an alien would attack you regardless (if you call or not). A better voicecomm is usually a request for ammo, since skulks often come out of their ambush spots thinking you're out of ammo.
• j3stj3st Join Date: 2004-06-28 Member: 29602Members
gorges normally don't attack you as they assume you got enough health to sustain three or more spits, in which case the gorge will be dead before he gets to do that.

requesting for a med pack i believe is called a radio command and can be heard by anybody nearby - not done through voice communication, so all talk does not need to be on

these type of tricks been around for a long time, and ones like jason said, but any half decent player shouldnt fall for it

in any war, psychoing the enemy is one of the most effective weapons.

in one co game, the marines blasted our hive until about 50%. we got a gorge to heal it back to 100%. but using chat so every1 cld hear me, i said,"whew! hive 10% left! that was close!" the marines fell for it. they rushed the hive blindly, thinking it only had 10% and we picked them off.

I've never tried that but I'll give it a try next time I see a little fat gorge.

Something that works well is that after taking down a few skulks or such, drop your pistol and pick up only the pistol (not the ammo dropped with it, hehe beta h5x for me!). Just click the pistol, when you hear a skulk switch and kill it.

if the gorge is trapped then he's just going to try to spit kill you anyway. I don't think this 'trick' has worked on any pubs that i've seen as the aliens just charge recklessly anyway.

the point isn't that the gorge is trapped, the scenario stated he was behind the OC remember... the idea is to lure him out with him thinking he can win a fight which he most inevitably can not.... thast the idea

I like some of the ammo ones those are good ideas... I've tried it a few times and it worked alright, one time I didn't pull out my gun in time and I died... but ya know it happens

I remember of my first days of NS, I heard a marine calling for ammo, so I headed in and got myself bigtime.

No even semi-competent players fall for this anymore...

this is old but a nice variation of this in b6 could be reloading your semi/ nearly full hmg in view of a fade and calling for ammo at the same time (3d anims), then tapping 2 > 1 if he looked like attacking.

all right next time there's 500 skulks in the hallway leading to chem trans on tanith, i'm gonna call for a medpack to trick them into thinking i'm hurt bad =0

Strategies that only work on crappy players aren't good strategies to use, otherwise you might end up using them in a real situation.

thats not true. just because a stradagy only works agaisnt morons doesn't mean its a bad one. its only a bad strad if you use it agaisnt non-morons.

case n' point

some companys advertise to select groups of people. some products are advistized to morons... does that make the advirtisement a bad one? if it works great for the people its seeking for, then it doing its job and is awesome. but if the same advirtisment is trying to appeal other smarter groups... then it becomes a bad thing

so it just depends on what you want to do. and plus pulling theese things off and trickign people is so freaking funny. its why the pratical joke is still around today.

Bad advice again.

A gorge would have to be stupid to think:
"OH THAT MRINE IS LOW I COIUDL PWN HIM EASYLY, CHARRRGEE."

Give me a break. An alien is always going to assume a marine has full health until attacked. Marines frequently call for meds simply to draw the commander's attention anyway. Yet another reason why this would not work on quality players. Even if the gorge was somehow tricted into thinking the player had low health, the gorge would not change his playstyle anyways. The gorge is going to do a combination of spitting and healing regardless and the marine is going to kill the gorge.

There is no point in talking about playing against low end gamers. All the advice you need to beat low end players is to walk to the hive and shoot them as they spawn. BTW we are talking about 'Natural Selection Organized Play', lets assume both teams are organized.

Some better advice regarding this subject would include:
When a marine must attack an alien behind and rt there is a no-drop radius around all RTs where the commander can not drop meds. Even if it is a gorge, avoid coming in close proximity to the res tower.

I got another example of psychological warfare for ya. I'm standing in the back of cargo hive on ns_nothing alone, with an unbuilt tf in front of me and there's a skulk hiding in one of the little nitches on the wall (you know the slot-like protrusions in the hive). Now I could try to weasel the skulk out of there and waste a bunch of ammo, and I would usually also try building the tf and tricking him into coming out so I can blast him, but that's risky at close range.

What do I do?

Absolutely nothing.

I stand there with my LMG out staring into space. He pops out and parasites me, and then hides. And I dont even touch my mouse. He pops out again, feeling more safe, and parasites me three more times and then hides. Then finally, the moment i'm waiting for, he slowly comes out, parasites me, and then comes out of his hiding spot to bite me, and I blast him in the face hahahaha. Sorry I know it's mean but I can't help it, and it's a great example.

Another example: As marines we are all familiar with the little RT-Skulk Hokey Pokey dance where they continue to bite the rt even as we try to snipe them away from it. Usually the choice is to get close and spray/pray with lmg. But one time I just didn't feel like doing that, so I got pretty close to the skulk...and then I just started running away, like I didn't care. And to my surprise, it worked. The skulk stopped biting the RT and followed me to get a cheap kill, which was my cue to spin around and blast him in the face with LMG fire.

Yeah lemme know what you think, am I a jerk or are those some nice eccentric strategies?
• monk3ymonk3y Join Date: 2003-10-30 Member: 22139Members
this is basically the same idea as a "skulk call"

most of the time i empty my pistol then i go around and making the clickin noise
then the skulks might take a peep and then run
When they dont get shot they get a little closer
then at the right movement i fell em up with lead
im such a sneaky marine
Best results if you use a shotty
also works with a knife.
