Oh, sure, spoil the intricacies of the plot for those who didn't bother to learn the true secret of the grays.

It's true, I never would have gone back and played Deus Ex again.

Whoa, so I bought this thinking the combat was gonna be like that of Deus Ex... and it turns out to have numbers coming out of people's heads when they are shot in the face.

    Waste of money.

I don't know why you bothered to get it in the first place, or why people were bothering to try to sway you over to it.
You made up your mind you hated it before even playing it.
I'm sorry you can find no joy in it while others clearly have.

Then turn that feature off, you fool! Once you do, you'll find the combat is exactly like Deus Ex, but with better melee.

You apparently failed to realize the game is an RPG, not an FPS.

And what? The numbers ruined it? Turn them off. Deus Ex combat wasn't exactly adrenaline filled at first, you know. You got your butt handed to you if you ran around like it was Doom or something.

Ah, my words were too harsh. It is not a waste of money - it's a great game. My character is a Brujah specializing in melee combat and intimidation. Now that I've beat some folks with a tire iron and sucked their leader dry, I'm much happier with my purchase. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I'm well aware that this post won't be read until the majority of you forum members can read the forums again, but there's some news that most or all of you will like about the game:

    1. The official 1.2 patch fixes a lot of things. Including that little issue where if you complete a certain quest in a certain way, the unpatched Bloodlines <i>will</i> crash to the desktop. Patch the game. You'll be glad you did.

    2. The "histories" portion of character editing that we all saw in the preview trailers for the game isn't entirely missing. You just have to enable it with a console command. It's "vchar_edit_histories 1" without quotes. It had no effect on my character because I'd already played some of the game, but using it <i>during</i> character creation may have more luck. I imagine the bonuses/penalties to certain stats were too unbalanced with some "histories" for the function to be included.

    3. The "money #" cheat does not give you cash to spend. Instead, it alters the physical proportions of female player characters. Cutscenes where you see yourself are relatively rare, so the effect is most noticeable by going to your character information screen, where one of the pages lets you rotate the view around your character. Numbers with decimals are allowed. Use it to make your character's looks more realistic, humorous, or otherwise desirable for the sake of roleplaying or gameplay. Just be aware that numbers too high or low will, quite honestly, look freakish or ugly.

I think the game is really good in the way that the story is interesting, and if you like Vampire, you will probably like this game. However it is pretty obvious that the game hasn't been properly tested, and without the pathces, the game is a mess at some point. Also many of the pathes that improved HL2 would do a lot of good for this game.

I had problems with sound stuttering, and long load times. But I really enjoyed the game besides that, and would recommend it to all fans of the RPG.

I've been playing Bloodlines more and more and eventually stopped.

I still stand by it being a great, engrossing game, but when you're inside, for example, confessional in downtown and you need to go back to your place in santa monica, it's an impossibly annoying task.

    load game
    Confessional > downtown
    downtown > santa monica
    santa monica > apartment

Each of the loading times (4 of them) take literally minutes to load, and when it does load, you spend 15-20 seconds moving to the next area, then sit around loading more. I find myself staring at the loading screen so often i end up just quitting rather than having to sit through another.

Until they patch the loading times to suck less, i won't be going back to it, it's a horrible chore to play it right now, and when the time spent loading rather than playing is 10x more, it doesn't seem worth it at all.

Personally I love this game more than HL2 rough edges and all.

Why? I'm not sure but I've managed to get much more playtime out of it. Possibly because of the ability to do your own thing (To a certain extent) However the loading never took longer than about 10 seconds for me so I didn't have that complaint. Although my friend has run it on a system with 256mb of RAM. And while it could still play he may have been waiting about 3 minutes for a load sometimes.

Also Bloodlines manages to show off Source's facial animation skillz somewhat better than HL2 itself. Probably because they're less subtle. And then of course, theres VV. Who makes the game at least 5 times better.

Also of note, apparently if you use your HL2 config for Bloodlines apparently it is possible to get better performance.

-EDIT- The Ocean House Hotel also got level of the year at Gamespy if I recall. -EDIT-

I really like this game and I usually don't like/play RPGs. There's plenty to do and multiple endings/clans make for alot of replayability. There are only a couple of downsides:
    - firearms are pretty much useless except for that sniper and the flamethrower
Melee weapons are far more effective and enjoyable
    - the long load times. Sometimes it would take as much as 3/4 minutes to load a map which is pretty annoying as you have to move around quite a bit. Though I'm playing this on my laptop which has only 512 mb ram and a 64mb radeon 9700 so that may have something to do with it.

I also missed the option to knock people out cold(like in Thief). There were missions where it was advised not to kill anyone where this could've come in handy.
Sneaking is also a bit messed up, if your sneaking feat is high enough (not even very high) you can crawl right up to them and they won't see you as long as you stay crouched eventhough you're blocking them as they walk around. I remember Thief had the same problem sometimes but at least you were hiding in the dark there, whereas in Bloodlines you can do this in perfectly lit areas. You can also sneak up to a guy and do a stealth kill/suck him dry while his partner won't even see you (or the dead body).
I'm hoping they'll release another patch to fix those minor things and an expansion pack would be nice too.

The game is superb up until the Blood Rayne-esque sewer hunt. That's a horredous rough patch, but well worth plodding through because afterwards the pace is resumed and the game elevates itself to its somewhat 'former glory'. That is until towards the end, when it all falls apart horrendously. Bugs in your face <i>every single second</i>, from mere spelling mistakes to game-ending crashes, poor missions that feature non-stop respawning enemies and no alternative for a non-combatative player and a total let down of an ending(s).

Still, I completed it first time round without the patch, which supposedly helps a bit, and it's still a good game. Just not a stunner.

Next stop: Malkavian playthrough, if only for the unparalleled dialogue.

I only had enough time to play up through the end of the tutorial bit (or near it, at least), but I was really impressed with even that much of it. There's a lot of polish missing, but lo and behold, here's a game that's actually really well <i>written</i>. Even some of the games where I've enjoyed the stories the most have suffered from poor/trite/laborious dialogue, but even just that bikeresque dude at the beginning was just perfectly defined.

Unfortunately I then stepped in an elevator, hit floor 2, and nothing happened and the doors wouldn't open again. I think I was maybe supposed to hit 1. Oops. Ah well, I'll gleefully dive back into it when I get some more time again! <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Ah, my new favorite singleplayer RPG.

The part in the Nossie warrens did suck, but I thought Troika did a really good job using the big parts of the World of Darkness universe and staying true to the way the PnP stuff is. Combat was kinda meh at times too, but overall a friggin' sweet game.

I've finished it once and I'm going to start my second time through. My first time through was as a Tremere with high Persuasion and Hacking. Lots of dots into Thaumaturgy, too. Whenever I could, I talked my way out of stuff, and during combat I just used blood magic. I think I'm gonna play a Brujah so I can beat stuff up this next time through.

I'm a bit behind the times, but I just got this game since it's available on steam now. And, zomg, so awesome. So rare to see a game that has writing and voice acting on par with Planescape... the graphics aren't as good as HL2, but the style is so awesome - art style, music style, the works. it is surprising that there's still some bugs though, even in the tutorial, even after they had like 4 years to squash em =p

Install the fan patch. It fixes most of the bugs, because Troika actually went out of business and never got to actually patch the game. <a href="http://www.3dgamers.com/dlselect/games/vampirebloodlines/Thirdparty/vtmbup35.zip.html" target="_blank">This link right here will set you up</a>. It works with the Steam version (or so I hear) and it fixes just about everything you could ever want fixed. The game is truly much better with it. You'll have to restart your game, though; I dunno if it invalidates saves, but it adds some new character creation stuff that you will want to check out.

tbh I'd love to see a Shadowrun game similar to this. As opposed to the "shadowrun" game that's coming, talk about raping an RPG <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />
