That's correct! You may have discovered this by reading Steam News or something like that, but a faster way would have been to <b>read this thread before you posted</b>:

it's fun. i kind of like the new world of darkness because they don't throw you into the world five minutes before the apocalypse (even though there's not an absurd amount of supplement books out ... yet)

tbh I'd love to see a Shadowrun game similar to this. As opposed to the "shadowrun" game that's coming, talk about raping an RPG <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />
    <!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Yeah, it's a shame. Still, if the FPS will lead to a Shadowrun RPG, I'm all for it.

As for Bloodlines... I enjoyed it. It had a ton of issues, but it was fun. Much better than Redemption. Sadly, the only thing they both have in common is that guns suck in both of them.

Install the fan patch. It fixes most of the bugs, because Troika actually went out of business and never got to actually patch the game. <a href="http://www.3dgamers.com/dlselect/games/vampirebloodlines/Thirdparty/vtmbup35.zip.html" target="_blank">This link right here will set you up</a>. It works with the Steam version (or so I hear) and it fixes just about everything you could ever want fixed. The game is truly much better with it. You'll have to restart your game, though; I dunno if it invalidates saves, but it adds some new character creation stuff that you will want to check out.
    <!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
cool, nice tip =p downloading now, before I get farther in the game and don't wanna restart hehe

I'm a massive World of Darkness fan, and I was really, utterly let down by this game. It was horrifically buggy, a lot of the effects, Disciplines and other powers were very badly handled (don't get me started on Thaumaturgy) and the acting was 'okay' at best.

I love to stick up for the little guy, but I really didn't think this was a good game, in the end.

Firearms is not useless, I magnum'ed the cheating flying bat thing last boss, it was a cheap fight. Non-combat skills are however. I got full persuasion skills... it was so pointless in the grand scheme of thing, turn out the sword is indeed mightier than the pen.

EDIT: Actually, I think I killed every boss with firearms.

Flamethrower eats em up quicker then you can say "golem in da room!".

I dont understand where you see these bugs, I played the game twice and I had none bugs to even bother me.
I heard about the escape boat not fuctioning but here it ran fine...

The vocie acting is absolutely above average and with the hl2 expression system I thought the conversations had personality.

Well, since this topic happens to be here, maybe someone could help me with the whole 'crashing problem' I've got going on. That is, randomly after loading the game it will crash when I start feeding on somebody (...usually the first time, but sometimes other times). Since feeding tends to be a big part of being a vampire it is a bit detrimental to my playing of the game...so maybe someone would have some suggestions for that (I think it may actually be the weird filter it uses to fade out the background as you feed, but maybe not).

...also, as a role-player, I'm disappointed that blood is the only thing that gives vampires pleasure. What's the point of sex/violence/power if all you <i>really</i> want is blood?

...furthermore (...or also, again, if you will), the Ocean hotel is just mind-numbingly annoying. Ohh, yea, scary, make everything dark so I can't see where I'm supposed to go. That's fun...and scary, definately scary, not annoying at all (also, flying pottery is <b><i>not</i></b> threatening).

you have the patches? official and unofficial? all I can suggest is playing with your graphics settings. I had random crashes too but not often enough to complain. just had to be anal about quicksaving all the time.

in the plot of the game, it seems that most vampires only care about sex/violence/power, and the blood is just a necessary evil.

I loved that part <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" /> it made me yelp out loud a few times. I thought it was really atmospheric and pretty scary. they did overuse the objects flying at you... but I think that was just because they needed a way for you to actually get hurt in there since there were no actual bad guys.

I played the game through once as a tremere and liked it a lot... some of the blood magic is overpowered - not that I'm complaining. can kill the last boss with 3 instant cast thaumaturgy spells for 1 blood point each...

I'm tempted to try it again as a stealthy nosferatu, or a crazy malkavian, or a gangrel with low humanity that frenzies all the time...

Well, I do have to play it on my laptop, and it wouldn't be quite as bad if I could see where I am supposed to go (I'll grant 'flying pot maelstrom' a + point).

I'm not sure my crashes are actually related to the individual graphics settings, because it's a hard crash (or whatever it's called when it makes my computer restart). The sound stutters for a moment, the screen goes all blue with some white blocks and it restarts (...none of that 'overheating graphics card' or 'drivers' stuff either, because HL2 works perfectly fine).

Maybe the patch fixes it, but I'm not sure it's 'installed' right, because at character creation there were no new options, but if it's not installed properly I have no idea how it's still working or where those files went...[edit]nevermind, I'm an idiot, and they didn't go in the right place...hopefully it works more fluidly now.[/edit]

A quick run down on WoD Vampires needs/greeds.

Everyone needs blood. And DAMN does it feel good. There are some that do not enjoy it (not as ######), some that REALLY enjoy it (really ######) and some that are just picky (Ventrue, though I don't remember if that was in bloodlines).

Sex is not officaly covered in the rules, and it is often assumed that vamps can't (they don't actualy have functioning internal organs). However there are 2 ways that it is offten rolled out:
    1) Burn blood to boink.
    2) "Sex" is necking. Remember, When vamps bite down their victims go into a state of bliss, and convieniently forget about it (basicly Vamps have a mix of E and Roofies in their saliva, exept giovanni, they don't). So when 2 vamps start feeding on each other it feels good.

Alot of vamps do go after the entire power thing (most of the ones you deal with in bloodlines are all about the power). When you live forever, power eventualy is what you crave (it is the only thing you can bring with you). Most of the clans are all about power in different forms, some go after raw power (Ventrue), some go after knowledge (Tremere, and Malkavians to come degree), some for information (Nosferatu), and some are more exotic, but I haven't played in ages.

There are some other things vamps go after, (beauty for Toreadors, theri animal nature for gangrel, etc etc) and in the table top game these are all covered under your Path (basicly, what you are obsesed with).

And there is also the goal of Golconda that is never covered in the rules. Basicly it is the state of enlightenment/inner peace, and is considred to take millenia to achieve.

so yah. Vamps are diverse, and have desires other then blood. However they tend to be a bit obsesive over one specific goal.

It frightens me howmuch of this I remember.

They modelled the pickiness of Venture in the game; if you feed on any low class people (bums, rats, prostitutes, etc) you have a chance of throwing up the blood because your system rejects it.

As for your crashing, I'd uninstall and reinstall from scratch, making sure you get the latest fan patch. The histories should be enabled in character creation. That's how you know the patch is working.

Yah, that is about right (though any one will generaly puke up animal blood, or atleast recieve no sustinance)

Though Ventrue could pick what every they want (Female, Male, Blond, Red head, Rich, Poor, Happy, Sad, Cold Blood etc etc etc)

...So, is biting yourself considered masturbation then?

...and this patch just doesn't want to install for me, there's just nothing new at the character creation screen, is there some early-game thing that is changes so that I can see if it worked? I mean, I bought it a few days ago, but I doubt that it's got a fan-made patch installed directly. Bah.

ummm, the kiss doesn't work on your self (rather sure that is covered some where).

IF I remember it is actualy the licking of the wound that heals it and makes the mortal go all giddy. However I tihnk this is as far as my random trivia knowledge extends in this direction.

The fan patch gives you some items if you choose to skip the tutorial, I believe, items that you don't get in the original game. How are you installing it?

    Ghoul. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

the game is very guy-oriented... prostitutes everywhere, you can get your own loving slave who you can even tell to change outfits... and there's a cheat code that does nothing but change NPC breast size...

kindred cannot give the kiss to each other. they can feed but it has no effect other than transferring vitae. in order to take vitae you must enter and maintain a grapple.
licking the wound will cause the bite marks to heal over (if the mortal is still alive)
and three strikes and you're is for the vinculum. you take three shots of vamp blood and you're a ghoul (or thrall if you're one of the kindred. unless your BP is over five.)

Rofl. Create a character and see if you have histories. You probably want to start over anyways; the whole game is much better with the fixes incorporated over the many versions of the fan patch. You'll probably end up playing multiple times anyways; V:TM - B is one of those games that you can play over and over and over and over.

Talking about patches. I 'acquired' this about 2 weeks ago when I noticed this thread and patched (including the unofficial one) the game up completely. Everything went fine until I was told to melee the first guy. I bashed F1, the "melee" thing would show up, but it wouldn't show me any melee weapons I could select. So naturally, I tried to hump the guy to death, crush him, ran around mindlessly and retried 2 times with other vampire types and stats, still didn't work. Reinstalled, no avail. Any ideas? Haven't looked since then (didn't think of it) >_>

I had the exact same bug... and I don't know what caused it. it was like, my initial inventory was broken, and I didn't even have 'unarmed' as a weapon type. you could try to use a cheat code to give yourself the 'unarmed' weapon... or you could start over, which is what I did. I have a theory that clicking too fast through Jack's dialog is what caused the bug...

I'd like to bring a pair of things to your attention, phur. First, The post you quoted is from 2004. Second, Sub_Zer0 is (or possibly was) relatively well known for his general inability to spell or build sentences properly and comprehensibly.

...Also, the warrens suck. I don't think my game managed to be patch completely either, as I'm still running into a mountain of bugs. I actually got to the second warrens part by going through the door (there's an office that has a door to downtown). Imagine my confusion when I go through a door (it was locked, but I guess I somehow slipped in behind it and managed to trigger the level change) and get spit out through a pipe. Just...what?

Also, sniping really kind of sucks in this game. Not only because the sniper rifle has some inanne one shot capacity (oh, so SWAT guys only need to fire at one person at a time, now?), but because after you do shoot that round you immediately need to press tab to get out of zoom-mode to know where you're going, or else risk getting killed.
