well
I had my brother's friend try NS. He has also played CS with my brother. After a while of playing, you won't believe the nonsense he said...or at least I hope it was nonsense.

"These people aren't as nice as the people in CS to new people, like me."

If this is true what is becoming of the NS community?

I can't believe what I heard

I have one thing to say! The CS community is much more rude to new players than the NS one!

I don't think so. Sure they rag on new players that spray and everything, but the sheer hate vented at new players when they don't build something, or go onos and die to two guys, is amazing. And by amazing, I mean sad

When I first read that I was thinking about typing something nasty.

And then I realized how true it is. We as an NS community should be nicer to the newer players. For example, if a team loses a game of NS, it's always "OMG newb (name) dropped X chamber first and then went onos and screwed us over" or "our comm was so noob he needs skills".

But yeah...what is becoming of our beloved community that I joined about 1.5 years ago? So kind to new players...

    OMG SUYF NUB!!!11111111111oneoneoneeleven

I think it depends on the server you are playing on, some servers are filled to the brim rectal headgear of all kinds. However some servers are very noob friendly.

It's sad to me that what chamber a team has can still ruin the game, let us all join hands and pray for true balance in short order.

By the by I hope people are more willing to adopt a new player and help them through while you are playing with them. I believe that is called "the rub".

The CS community is, sadly, more noob-friendly than this one by far. I don't think it's because of the players, but instead the nature of the game: a newbie or two on your team can make everything fall apart in NS, and it makes people angry when their loses because of one person. In CS, it's basically a deathmatch so nobody really cares if people on the server are crap.

the easiest way to solve the problem is:
Make it so that new aplyers automaticly start witht he filter of CO on maps.

New players only annoy me if they spam the mic for 95% of the game. Ask for a better gun 15 thousand times. Ask why they can't kill aynthing. This guy is such a hacker! yadda yadda type of stuff.

    And for my celebration.

To be fair, we are nice to most new players... But if you come around your average NS server using flagrant leet speak and CS jargon, most NSer's will flame you in a second. We try to be open, but due to the massive learning curve nature of the game, many NS players are extreamly elitist.

I think it just depends on which server they are playing. You just need to explain to them that there are no hostages and you cant plant the C4.

NS community is less friendly because each player depends and I mean they truely depend on each others abilities to play the game. Unlike CS were most go on there own little adventure.

Though I do find CS can be as rude when the new player has the bomb. The hate only lasts about a min, in NS the hate lasts for about 15 mins. Big difference.

    Very true.

NS is a game in which teamwork is very, very important, especially on marines. Longtime CSer's tend to forget that teamwork is actually applicable over the intarweb.

the CSers are blowing up NS.
why they didnt get a nice warm welcome?
    ask themselves.
arent people supposed to read the manual, know the rules and learn a bit, at lease, before playing?

    Dudesssssssssssssssssssss

Every pub server has a bunch of regulars who think of themselves as good players

most of the time, its when one (or more) of these players lose, they will almost INSTANTLY find someone to blame for it, and it's usually the nub.

not to say that the nub doesn't deserve it, most of the time he does forget to build stuff. but a lot of people would rather blame someone than take responsibility for a loss.

there really aren't people who are just out to heckle newbies. most of the time it's these kind of people.

Man i remember when i was new to NS, i screwed up on everything. I mean i tried to do what they told me, but as most of you have said, they say junk like "OMG N00B! GET THE $*%@ OUT OF HERE" and so on. Back then they banned me to death, although i dont blame them for not liking newbies, they still have to go through their heads and remember that they to were a newb to the game, that back then they made screwy mistakes like newbs today do. Kinda sad that people who think that theyre all bad *$%es think that they are like the masters of the game. Really i would just like to Devour them...if i was a in real life.... Really CS is fun but i dont play it anymore since pretty much all the servers i loved and always went to are now full of cheaters and hackers. Thats why i now hate and despise CS...damn cheaters....

Like Zek mentioned, I think it's just the nature of the game, and especially the nature of pubs. The game is designed for hardcore clanners who know what's up, and not for a bunch of twelve year olds after school, or the lonely weirdos who play late at night. Of course there is going to be a clash betwen these groups, and I don't think it's anything the "community" should be kept up late at night worrying about. Just go play and own some noobs.

There is no correlation between being 12 or being "lonely wierdos" and the ability to play competently.

cs players don't say a word to new players except possibility to say "lol noob" or something equally stupid

ns players will go out of their way to belittle and insult a new player while screaming about how banned they are going to be

    it's sad, really

The larger issue I run into is when questions are asked, I'm always doing something (assaulting a hive, building a critical PG, finishing off a fade) so I can't just put down the mouse to type... So I'm not a jerk, I just look like I'm ignoring him.

But I have certainly seen large groups of players really let new players have it.

I'm not sure what can be done about this...

so..you think that is different in the NS average pub? honestly?
I remember my first games....hell was that stressfull!

Problem is, either the pubs player base is consisting of decent players, in which case
they tend to look down on newcomers or even harrass them. I 've seen newbies threatened with ban because they still were named NSplayer.....

The other extreme is the average pup next door where an astounding amount of f****sticks are hanging around and vent their 1337ness on new players.

The outcome is the same on most occasions. The behavior is just different, yet noobs are noobs and treated as such.

Need some sort of single player training session. Dont allow new players to play multiplayer untill they have completed it. Personaly I could careless if they could shoot, they need to know how the game works! Much like when you first start to play HL 1. Keep it informational not so much about shooting, BH or scripting.

i recently started playing cs again after a long sabbatical, and the worst thing i've been told yet is "go back to play solitaire" :D

however in about 1/2 of the ns games i play, there's someone who doesnt know how to play the game, and someone will start bashing him. it's pretty sad to watch, even though i admit i've been guilty of the same thing manymany times. =/ hawthorne is right, it's usually about blaming someone else for the loss.

The big problem with newbie-bashing is that only a single mean player on a server can botch the atmosphere and impression of the community as a whole.

I find that my attitude towards a new player is entirely dependent on that player's own attitude. If I give a player who clearly displays inexperience some pointers and he answers me with a string of explitives and slurs, I will smite them something fierce. If someone displays a genuine interest in learning, I will gladly guide them and explain whatever it is they want to know. XD
