I'm posting this here because:
A) I know we have enough users outside North America that someone can check whether this is true.
B) I figure if I put it in off-topic you guys will start discussing politics soon enough anyway, so I'm starting it in here.

I can't get to it (UK)

I'm getting an access denied, rather than cannot be displayed, so its definitely permissions based.

easy way to check, anyone got a US based proxy?

    Ah, to quote Auntie -

"The site can still be seen using anonymous proxy services that are based in the US. Some web users in Canada also report that they can browse the site."

I can't access it from Barcelona, Spain and my mate in London, UK couldn't either.

However I did successfully access it before Monday and found to my horror that Bush had even made a flash game to undermine Kerry's honesty while appealing to the younger generation.

    Underhanded, yes.
    Clever, yes.

At all what I expected, hell no!

Being cut off from the Bush election website isn't so bad.
What really bothers me is that I can't look at the <a href='http://www.sho.com/queerduck/' target='_blank'>Queer Duck</a> homepage without going through a U.S. proxy.

Not the site, but the DNS-Entry is protected against non-Amarican visitors.
If you open the homepage over its IP Adress everything will work fine.

I seriously doubt its because they don't want you to see it. There are a multitude of reasons to do this. The number one reason would be to cut down on unneeded bandwidth. With the election under a week away, it wouldn't be "prudent" to have people not able to get on the site.

Nice way to try to discredit my statement by making an outrageous claim. However most hacking attempts DO originate from outside of the US.

<!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->GEORGE W. Bush doesn't trust the outside world to view his US election campaign website, and that includes close ally Australia.
The US President's re-election aides said today it had cut off access to its website from certain foreign countries "for security reasons", but declined to elaborate.

"The measure was taken for security reasons," campaign spokesman Scott Stanzel said.

The President's campaign office said earlier it had received telephone calls about access failures.

Mr Bush's campaign aides would not offer any more details, but last week the site went down for about five hours after a "denial of service" attack.

When the web address "www.georgewbush.com" was typed from NEWS.com.au's office, the following message appeared:

"You are not authorized to view this page. You might not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials you supplied.

"If you believe you should be able to view this directory or page, please try to contact the website by using any e-mail address or phone number that may be listed on the www.georgebush.com home page."

Obviously, without access to the homepage, finding e-mail addresses or phone numbers is impossible, leaving millions of interested users around the world without access.

British website "www.netcraft.com", which analyses Internet traffic to detect fraud and count the most visited sites, said the Bush campaign website had been inaccessible from London, Sydney and Amsterdam since Monday, although Canada was apparently not affected.

The website was down and inaccessible for several hours on Tuesday in what campaign officials said could be the work of hackers.

So our Glorious Leader supports your Iraq war, and you don't trust us to read your campaign site? Please explain.

I don't care about his campaign. Somebody should definitely mirror his site though. But I don't blame whoever made the decision; computer DDoSing has become a huge problem, especially in political attacks and extortion from websites. Obviously he's blocked access to anywhere outside of the US and canada [why canada?] because it's a lot harder to prosecute people outside of the US - russia, and other middle eastern and european scum are doing whatever they want want without fear of repercussion. So no, I don't blame him. He's already been attacked, somebody made a smart decision, and that's about it. We really need some way to fight back at these idiots.

I know a couple of guys who been brought down by these stupid black bloc groups. Taken down entire websites they feel that is a threat to their beliefs. Some of these groups have entire campaigns deteticated to internet cyberterrorism.

If you haven't been paying attention Bush isn't one of the most popular characters in the world today.
