Google image search for "tanto knife." There are webpages selling nothing but knives.

I guess nanites could make a left handed LMG. :l my carefully constructed universe, shattered.

I had a similar question about why the handgrip is always at the bottom of the gun. Does it have to do with recoil on the wrist? Balance of the arm? I like things like the FG42, Bren, FAMAS, G11, ACR, anything new and different in the field. Stagnation sucks.

If the Americans can afford it, which considering thier military budget they will probably equip their troops with the OICW.
It comes equiped with a grenade launcher with four different types of grenades and can be turned into a sniper rifle with ease.
The sight the soldier is looking through contains a computer which can show targets in infra-red an night vision, give the targets range and program the grenade to detonate at that distance.
Only problem is like each shell it fires cost $20.

Another important thing to note about the old GL is that its model was originally ment to be the HMG. Then the current model was made and it was decided to be much better. Since there wasn't any GL model ready at the time, they decided to use the spare HMG as the GL model.

I thought the OICW was scrapped due to being too expensive and unreliable. The XM8 was cheaper and better than the M16 so was considered a better alternative.

No, the OICW wasn't scrapped. The Army and Marines (I think) are still going to purchase it in limited numbers, but I don't think it's poised to replace the M16.

The truly unique thing about the OICW is the airburst grenades it fires. Unlike conventional grenades used with grenade launchers, they explode in midair. No longer can cover protect enemies...

Yes, the P90 is a top-loading firearm, but the magazine lies flat against the gun, so interference with sighting isn't a problem.

Incidentally, the old GL's eerie resemblance to a CS model is because (if I remember rightly) it *is* just a reskinned CS model.

Incidentally, the OICW will never enter mass use until they fix the multitude of problems with it, not the least of which is complete unreliability to due excessive use of technological and moving components. Basically, it breaks too easily.

That's not the biggest problem with it. I believe the main problems are it's excessive weight and cost.

I was gonna say that. Although the mag is a flat one that doesn't intefere with the protruding sights on top.

Robocop is real. They had to film this thing (This is too old movie to make it with computer), so they had real helmet, real bodyplate and stuff.. It is real.
The topic rules are to post things that LOOK similar to the NS TSA equipment, it doesnt have to work in the same way.. And I am shure that the films studio still holds that RC thing in somewhere..

And I had pretty same knife at my grandparents place. The handplace looked the same (not colour only) and the blade looked just like it, it was maybe the closest things to NS TSA equipment in real life ever.

Tanto style knives are great. Another thing to watch out for is knives with blood channels. The idea is to allow a path for blood to escape from the wound while the knife is still embedded in the flesh, increasing the potential lethality of the stab.

That's actually an extremely common misconception. I've never actually seen a knife with a 'blood channel,' and such a thing would be pretty silly given the reason why it exists.

That groove down the middle of a sword is called a 'fuller,' and was not used to decrease suction during the removal of a sword after a stab, or to let blood leak out (although it's easy to see why you'd think that, and indeed it did help.) The main purpose of the fuller was to decrease the weight of the sword -and- increase it's durability. When you think about it, there's not much stuff you can take off of a sword to make it lighter. You could make it thinner, but that's compromising it's structure. The groove was almost as long as the blade itself and could take a pound (sometimes two) off the weight and the shape of it helped the sword from bending. Try folding a piece of paper.. then bend it into a U shape on the opposite axis and try to fold it again.

..but enough about swords, we're talking about guns here.
I had heard that the OICW was poised to become one of the more standard weapons in the US Army by 2009, but alot of you are saying it's been replaced. I don't exactly know, but it is a pretty awesome gun none the less. Come on, remote-detonation grenades? That's just awesome. The way I've read it described, it seems like you could fire a grenade over a pile of sandbags and detonate it the moment it passes, without having to arc it in such a way that it hits the ground on the other side. It just flies over and KABOOM, the laser range finder detonates. As someone mentioned, it also has a camera/nightvision/IR viewer that can be linked to a soldier's helmet and display data on a drop-down screen extremely reminiscient of those things the DBZ guys use. A soldier could stick his gun around a corner, see what it sees, and fire without ever exposing himself. Very schwag. The problem is that the camera devices are actually the bulk of the weapon's cost and aren't very durable. I don't think they could be recharged either, so soldiers just threw 'em away. Eh.

The closest thing to an NS pistol I can find happens to deal with the technology inside the gun and not the outward appearance of it. It's called the O'Dwyre VLE, and it's from those psychos at METAL STORM (who've made a gun that fires at speeds of 1,000,000 bullets per minute, isn't it?) All of the bullets sit inside the barrel, one in front of the other, and are detonated one at a time by an electrical impulse. The barrel also has some funky recoil system that causes it to slide back three different times before resetting to the neutral position, which means all of the bullets land in roughly the same spot. It's also got multiple barrels that can be fitted with non-lethal beanbags, pepper canisters, and even explosive rounds. And get this.. it TALKS. Imagine running down the street from some cop brandishing his pistol when suddenly the gun chirps out, "Lethal mode. Explosive rounds loaded." Yea. Uh-oh.

It has nothin' to do with the weapons in NS and it actually doesn't look like one of them! back to topic plz!

Rushakra when you said "sword" you meant knife right?
I dunno but I think Swift Idiot was right about the blood channels. I mean Tanto is a japanese (I think so) knife and when you take a look at the samurai swords and knifes it's very obvious that his theory about the blood channels can be true!

Don't forget you can't go prone with the OICW. I'd take a G11K3 or G36E-TGS over any of the new American guns, honestly.

Anyways, the first time I saw a Marine I thought of this, even if it isn't real:

I don't think the G11K3 would actually perform very well, but the G36E would. But that's just refinements of ideas already in place, the OICW is somewhat revolutionary.
