bolt pistol or bolter?
• PerditionPerdition Join Date: 2004-07-02 Member: 29692Members
BOLTER! You can't tell?
• Tribal-BobTribal-Bob Join Date: 2003-12-21 Member: 24600Members
The backpack is indeed uber, but wouldnt work well on a scout marine, they typically carry light arms and that would just look funny on them (along with the shoulder-mount one).

Hmm... what if we used tactical marines for both LA and HA, but change them enough so you can tell the difference. Maybe different helmet types? LA have no helmets (therefore they logically would be effected by spores) and HAs have helmets. You could even remove the pack for the LAs if you wanted.

as much as i hate to say it... but no...
it looks somewhere in between. your best ref would prolly be the detailed irl replica.
a few things i noticed, the bolter has a single largeish barrel with one huge vent hole in all other ref's and a small metal rod sticking out from under that, but it is is very small in comparison.
and on the rear the \_\ part is smaller than the rest of the gun
there is no trigger guard on bolters apparently. and there are grooves on the underside of the barrel where he supports it.

EDIT: I think terminators for the HA is the best option, since space marines and terminators both have the option of useing jumppacks w/o it looking silly (+an imperial guard with the heavy bolter+backpack = bad.
and besides, having a Space M+terminator combo > imperial guards+Space M

There are no trigger guards because you cut that entire part off so you can glue it onto the marine's fist

Yeah, going back through I noticed the trigger guard and grooves on the underside of the foregrip. But I noticed by looking at the different pictures you posted, and others floating around the net, they all look slightly different. So i'll probably go back through and just resize things as necessary, and delete things.

ever look at some of the game art? the spacemarine bolters dont have trigger guards on any o f them, most likely they dont really matter when you are encased in ceramite

I still think the Marines as LA and Terminators as heavies would be best, as making the LAs scouts would mean coming up with a reason to give em JPs, and I've never seen scouts with jump packs, have you? Also, instead of having the terminators heft around the heavy bolters/bolters/whatever, give em their terminator equivilants. Bolter -> Storm Bolter, Heavy Bolter -> Assault Cannon. I imagine you can work it since the LA weapons and the HA weapons are both entirely different models.

But what about P models?
• PriestPriest Join Date: 2003-01-08 Member: 12042Members
hmm... there must be a way around it... the malice model had HA specefic w and p models... dident it?
• Tribal-BobTribal-Bob Join Date: 2003-12-21 Member: 24600Members
Yeah the pmodels would be impossible, as far as I know there's one universal pmodel for each weapon.

Well, here is the next render of the gun, kind of awkward lighting on the foregrip.

Changes: Removed the triggerguard, added ridges to the foregrip, added a trigger, changed the handle.

*edit* I did my own take on the foregrip, I wasnt quite sure of how to go back and redo it the way it should be done.

I dunno, the clip seems a little small... looking good so far though.

(Im giving the heavy bolter a shot atm)

Awesome, if it's good you will save me and MoreThanDead some time!
• PriestPriest Join Date: 2003-01-08 Member: 12042Members
it looks good, but i agree on the clip... it should be a tad larger as well as the barrel. its shooting rocket propeled shells.... takeing nice heavy chunk out of small aliens

I'd personally like to see a whole pack

Light Marines - Space Marine
Heavy Armour - Terminator
LMG - Bolter
HMG - Heavy Bolter (underhand style)
Knife - Knife or chainsword
Pistol - Bolt Gun
GL - Meta Gun?

Be neat if the weapons all had their own models for the terminators though, I know that would be possible for v models but can you make specific armour p and w models?

No, the space rines are to bulky IMO. I reccomend modeling the IMPERIAL GUARD.

Whats the problem with backpacks again??

I thought the "how to fix the HB backpack" issue had been discussed and resolved..
• PerditionPerdition Join Date: 2004-07-02 Member: 29692Members
Okay!

Changes to expect some time tonight: Fatter handle, fatter magazine, redone ridges in the forgrip, fatter barrel with more detail.

Finished I think. I beefed up the handle, the barrel, the magazine, and redid the foregrip.

(Sexorz render for my personal collection.)

yea that does look alot better
• KaineKaine Join Date: 2002-08-07 Member: 1096Members, Constellation
looks better, still... lacks detail >.< I've always wanted to do a bolter myself, but haven't got nethin worth modelin with atm (PC wise)
• PerditionPerdition Join Date: 2004-07-02 Member: 29692Members
Hm, im not sure of whatelse I could do detail wise on the model. The guns themselves are pretty bland, maybe some detail in the magazine and some other stuff along the huge blank portions of the gun, but not much more I personally think I could do. Ill probably send it over to MoreThanDead, he has agreed to help me with modeling.

Also, Tribal-Bob, what's the story on the Heavy Bolter?
• Tribal-BobTribal-Bob Join Date: 2003-12-21 Member: 24600Members
Uh, bad I re-started it three times and I think I have it this time... maybe a pic tommorow later on.
