    Indeed. And I followed the instructions to the letter.

    Then try the "Nitro-Gore" mod. It should do it.

    For the 32 player mod, which 2 files do i copy? the playerfix and connect tool or the doom3sp and connecttool or all 3? And will I still be able to play on Normal doom 3 servers?

    wow; i unpacked the pk4s and did all the autoexec.cfg stuff and went to play; the game looked a lot better and i was getting only five FPS.

    yeah kinda choppy...

    went to check on video settings and noticed i was on 1024 at Ultra High Detail!

    set it back to 800@Medium and im getting great frames on my geforce3ti!

    unpacking the pk4s has helped with load times whenever soemthing new enters the area; i used to lag as a new monster teleported in to the room with me, but now they come in quite smoothly.
    ---
    Quanaut; did you say 1.28GB of ram or 128mb? the minimum reqs are 512, and ive never seen anyone with 1280...

    Maybe he means 1024?
  • TommyVercettiTommyVercetti Join Date: 2003-02-10 Member: 13390Members, Constellation, Reinforced - Shadow
    I run at 800x600 at medium detail and for the most part my framerate is ~30. However, in some parts it drops drastically and I have to back into a corner and spray while praying that I hit them more than I don't.

    In case I didn't post these before:
    Athlon 1.2Ghz
    512MB RAM
    GeForce 4 Ti 4600 128MB

    I tried setting detail to high but it made no difference, not in frames, not in appearance. And I still can't get guns or projectiles to produce light - the particle and muzzle flash is there, but they don't throw any photons!

    I'm still gutted that I can't stretch to 1024x768 Medium Detail on a R9600 XT, 2600 XP+ and gig of DDR333 RAM and after a host of these tweaks <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo-->.

    ATI cards just pale in comparision to Nvidia on this game, especially when I see a person with a Geforce 3 Ti200 getting roughly the same performance as me at 800x600 Medium.

    tequila, nya nya nya, nya nya

    but seriously; the radeons will pick up dramatic performance increases in the next few driver releases.

    the way i see it is that the older geforces just did raw number crunching, and the radeons have all sorts of higher level tricks that give them performance boosts for any mainstream game, but since doom3 is doing rendering in a whole new manner, radeon's tricks arent doing anything, while the geforces are performing mediocrely. give ATI a month to play with it and then theyll be back to beating the nvidia line.

    edit: and my athlonXP 3600+ makes up for my geforce3ti200's limitations.

    Yeah, the 4.9 CATs are a step in the right direction. It still looks bloody good at 800x600 <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->.

    Thanks to these tweaks, I am playing Doom 3 at high on 800x600 on a 32mb Geforce 2 gts.

    No, I definately meant 1280mb of DDRAM. I had a spare $150, and I only had 256mb of RAM, so I got 2 512 sticks. They were the only pieces on my custom PC that I actually put in myself.

    Also- yes, Radeons will be getting SIGNIFICANT bumps pretty soon, though if I were you, I'd do all you can to really pull out the extreme tweaking.

    I myself am going to try unpacking the pk4s just so I can try going for 1024x768 detail. I'm just gonna have to copy the PK4s and swap them with my unpacked ones every time I want to MP, though I don't think I will be for a while.

    ...maybe if I unpack ALL the pk4s I can pull some even more extreme stuff. Who knows- I'll try after I beat it. Which I finally got to my 5th Standard enemy(I think its 5th- its the [possiblespoiler]floating heads[/possiblespoiler], and man that boss battle kicked ****, I actually almost died on it on easiest settings! But I"ll have to remember that grenades are my friend on that battle...oi vei <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    The first one. All I have to say is "Spiders".

    Oh, also, <span style='color:red'><b><span style='font-size:14pt;line-height:100%'>HERE IS A FIX FOR CWAG'S INSTA-HELPER!</span></b></span>

    ...thank God for mistakes <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Basically, before you do CWAG's thing, just copy your base folder to the same folder. It should auto-rename itself to "Copy of Base"- after that, rename it to "mpdoom" or something to remind you, its multiplayer.

    After that, just do CWAGs thing. Now, whenever you want to play Multiplayer, you just launch the game as usual, then go to mods, and launch mpdoom! Tahdah, no more having to switch out and stuff. GG.

    You know, I just tried Doom 3 on Ultra settings and it ran at... a playable framerate. Look higher on this page and you'll see my specs. People, I think my computer has been posessed by Satan himself.

    The texture quality is almost entirely dependant on how much video ram you have and won't effect your fps, so that is normal. You'll notice that the game will freeze for a few seconds every time you enter a room when you play on ultra quality.
  • TommyVercettiTommyVercetti Join Date: 2003-02-10 Member: 13390Members, Constellation, Reinforced - Shadow
    But it actually looks a hell of a lot better than the texture quality I had before. I mean extremely crisp stuff. This is starting to scare me...

    Now for AA and ASF fulling, with vsync! I tried it too, got about 20 fps average, though it didn't look much different than high for me.

    Yes, ultra quality looks better than medium or high quality, are we really surprised?

    It does, but if you don't have enough vram it just spills over onto your hard drive and ram, and you get stuttering whenever you open a door as it loads the textures in the next room.

    Here's a pretty good tweaking guide to help you maximize your FPS:
    <a href='http://ucguides.savagehelp.com/Doom3/Doom3Guide.htm' target='_blank'>http://ucguides.savagehelp.com/Doom3/Doom3Guide.htm</a>

    I've been running on high detail getting a steady 40fps in 1024*768 and 50fps in 800*600

    AMD 2800+
    Radeon 9600XT 256MB (Cat 4.9)
    512MB DDR

    Here's my autoexec

    I'm DOOMED ;_;

    I cant get doom 3 to run any faster then 30 FPS (Looking at a wall, 1-10 FPS during fighting) even after all this tweaking.

    This is with 1.6gig pentium 4, 1 gig SDRAM, and a G4 ti4400

    1 gig of ram

    Did all the tweaks, and my fps is ****. Especially during firefights, and in hell...OH EM GEE! I damn near threw my freaking monitor out the window just because the fps was so terrible I couldn't see ****!

    Thats because they made DOOM 3 with stuff that they knew that no one would be able to power for quite a few more years, until we get machines with 512 vram. The actual parts haven't even been INVENTED yet- just shows how advanced D3 is <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    [edit]And no offense RuBy, but that guide seems seriously lacking. Well, once they guy at tweakguides.com finishes his DOOM 3 one, thats the one people really need to use- he covers EVERY SINGLE LITTLE THING, and really knows what he's talking about. Truly complete kind of stuff.
