To clarify, a ground breaking advance ISN'T the next generation of CPU or video card, it would be the development of a new mobo that uses 533hgrz ram, or the next level AGP slot, or the next slot setup for the CPU's that will be paving the way in the next 3 years... Something that you won't be able to pull out and replace when it gets outdated...
If you gettting a LCD monitor make sure it's has Response Time under 16 ms Digital cable is a must it improves picture qualty a fair bit

AMD Athlon 64 3800. As far as im concerned, Opterons and FX's are more based towards server applications, handling more information and "Request" type data instead of applying textures and that kind of stuff.

www.outpost.com is also one of my favorites, but thats just because I love Fry's electronics. And Athlon 64s All the way up to and including the 3700 are 754 pin. the 64 3800 is 939 pin, and so are the FX/opterons.

www.outpost.com is also one of my favorites, but thats just because I love Fry's electronics. And Athlon 64s All the way up to and including the 3700 are 754 pin. the 64 3800 is 939 pin, and so are the FX/opterons.

No, all Athlon 64's are either 939 pin or 940 pin, the name of the socket they plug into is the 'SOCKET 754'
