Its true. Read it- Bethesda bought the rights, and is making it.

I haven't played 1 or 2, and didn't like what I did of Tactics, but it oozed of Atmosphere, and 1 and 2 only get praise, so even I want this.

Daggerfall was a killer game but MW fell abit short, I hope they will score a winner this time

I rather enjoyed Morrowind in it's openness. You could do whatever you wanted, if you were strong enough. The attack animations were HORRID, though. I mean, just thinking about them scares me.

I did like the "plugin" system of mods, it adds nigh-unlimited replayabitlity to the game. Multiplayer would be teh own, but seeing as neither of the two predecessors had MP, I doubt this one will.

If bethesia is making it, well, this could easly turn out to be one of the best RPGs ever created.

As I wrote on the GWJ forum, where they picked this one up a little earlier, let's don't start bashing Bethesda, they created a number of games that work and have a justifiedly enthusiastic following. Thing is, their RPGs focus was always the high variety of possible gameplay choices, while Fallouts main draw has always been its atmosphere, which is predominantly fueled by the incredibly well crafted characters that inhabit the Wastes. This is, incidentally, the one aspect of Bethesdas games that I tend to find lacking.
This is not to say that I think they can't pull it off; as with a good author trying a new genre, I won't start judging them until I see the final product, but I think some concern is justified, especially since Interplays evaluation of the contenders for the franchise will have consisted of checking who was willing to shell the most dough out.

Then why are you sitting around here chatting on some loser forums? GO PLAY FALLOUT!

I greatly enjoy Fallout. I greatly enjoy Morrowind. Therefore: A game made by the people who did Morrowind, set in the Fallout universe = a level of OMGz0rzness that cannot be contained by one man or mutant.

I am very happy that Interplay finally sold the rights (something that should've been done long ago), but my thoughts are similar to Nem0's. My main criticism of Morrowind (the one Bethesda game I gave a serious try) is that interactions with NPCs is like trying to talk to a walking piece of furniture compared to Black Isle's Fallout games or Planescape: Torment.

Not to mention it takes away one of the facets of my world takeover plans.

...I would actually point you in the direction of www.interplay.com so you could buy the dual jewel with them both for ~$10...

...were it not for the fact the website does not seem to be working at the moment. You could try it later - unless they went out of business or something...then look to the posts above or below this one.

I'm scared fallout 3 will become a no-nonsense RPG with poor fighting and NPC interation.

Remember all the jokes in F1 and F2? Remember the cool NPC's?

Yeah the Fallout games have been the only RPGs I've played where the evil path is good, and not either stupid or generic (ala KOTOR, despite the various layers of awesomeness in that game). I remember one of the New Reno missions where you had to go find some buried treasure, with the help of a hostage. He planned to kill you with a mine, but I forced him to dig, he dug up the mine, then I pitched it down the hole after him... ah the memories

They better not screw up this franchise... we've waited waaaay too long for Interplay to do something about Fallout 3. I guess they stopped touching themselves with the rats long enough to look out of their box and notice that the gaming community actually still expected Fallout 3 to be done someday. Speaking of being done someday... *pokes Valve*

You poor, poor pitiable soul. Get it. Now.

That's right, Mullet-boy. Off the computer. HANDS OFF THE KEYBOARD. Go now to the nearest open game store. Look for Fallout 1 & 2. Buy them if they are there. If they aren't go to the next open game store. Look there. Repeat untill you find it.

Man looks like I'm the only one here who loved Morrowind to death. Well not as much as my fiancee, who played the game for a solid year and collected every book, herb, spell and item in the world and translated the in-game alphabet and every scroll. Quite humerous to find most healing scrolls have as their text "Woe unto thee"

I've thus got high hopes for Fallout 3. And in that article it says they're thinking of making a MMO based on the Fallout universe. Which I at least would love to see.

Lets hope that they just pick up where Interplay left off, I think the game was halfway completed when it got shelved.

I heard Interplay was like, not doing well in business and only had 1 guy left, the boss, who is overly optimistic in his pathetic situation.

while this causes for a celebration be warned:

    from the interview:

GameSpy: Will Fallout 3 follow in the footsteps of its predecessor in style of game play?

    Pete Hines: Again, too specific.

    gulp.

GameSpy: What initially made you decide to make Fallout 3? Will the storyline be a continuation of previous titles?

Pete Hines: Um, just one of those things we'd always wanted to do, really. We just thought it was a great fit for what we do well. Again, too early to talk about storylines and things like that.
    gulp x 2

GameSpy: Finally, will Fallout 3 be from a first- or third-person perspective like the Morrowind series, or isometric, like its predecessors?

Pete Hines: Too early to say, but I imagine it'll probably lean towards using technology that we're developing.

    UBERGULP!

basically they're saying that it most likely won't follow the storyline, will use a different style and will be first person (as they're engine is the morrowind one)
