Even the best aimbot doesn't repalce the skill needed to walk around and use teamplay, so it is kinda the same thing because it only partially replaces skill. Scripts also partially replace skill, eg. finger speed, eye/hand coordination.
Now, both provide a "boost in skill", and you want to say one is legal and the other not? Come on...

Not to join in on the battle royal, but i think that the people that dont like scripts either are tired of getting owned or dont know how to make/use/get them
Wrong. Aiming is a MAJOR (ie. CORE) skill in ANY FPS game you play. Removing that removes a HUGE chunk of skill required, regardless of "team play" or "walking around". Streamlining your config so you can hop along easier, or binding something so you can toggle duck on and off...Cheating? Don't make me laugh. Unless you can aim, that pistol script? worthless. Can't move effectively? That Bhop script is worthless. Unless you have a firm grasp of the things that these things aid beforehand, they won't help you AT ALL. An aimbot however WILL. THAT is the difference between the two.

Well I think most people don't like scripts, because they lack the knowledge to make/use/get them, or just shout at the scripters because they have a bad day.
What's hard about making them public? Well, have a look of the % of people who play NS and frequently visit these forums, too
Scripts:
-need written "code" [.cfgs] -partly use already existing code [otherwise, show me those exact script lines being existant in default NS code...] -boost existing skill -give advantage about somebody of the same level of "natural" skill who isn't using them
Aimbot/Wallhack:
-need written "code" [.something....] -partly use already existing code -boost existing skill -give advantage about somebody of the same level of "natural" skill who isn't using them
Oh, btw: Hand/eye coordination, finger speed, reaction times are also MAJOR (ie. CORE) skills in ANY FPS game you play.
You CANNOT accomplish the same with scripts as nice coded Wallhacks/Aimbots (As far as I know)
The knowledge/skill of making scripts can easily be shared by making a good tutorial, which can be done if the "1337" scripters under us unite and bring this to the public.
If you are angry/****/tired at/because of scripting, please use your well needed energy to LEARN how to script, IF you need the same advantage, so far I played all the time (since 2.0) without scripts, (except for binding some stuff) and I have had a very nice playing experience.
[edit] "boost existing skill"
What do you mean by that? That suddenly I can become a lot better at playing Natural Selection by using a script? I can only do that by playing serious for a certain amount of time. Scripts give you a way to modify the way you control(experience?) the game Example: I wanted to make it clearer to the commander that I need a medpack, so I made the following:
<!--c1--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>CODE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='CODE'><!--ec1-->bind "v" "impulse 10; say_team I need a medpack please"<!--c2--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--ec2--> And I try NOT to spam it all the time. [/edit]
Scripts don't replace hand/eye coordination or reaction time at all. Those would be aimbot replacements. You can't make a "shoot when something passes my view" script or one that auto aims for you. Finger speed is the only thing in that list that could possibly be effected, but that also isn't effected that much because you STILL need to hit buttons to make the script activate. The keyword here is Streamlining. Making things perform better by reducing the amount of resistance in actions. Oh gasp shock horror! I have to hit one key instead of two now! WOE BETIDE THE NUBLARS WHO FALL UNDER MY MIGHTY SCRIPT POWER. Aimbots give skill that doesn't even need to be existant in the first place. Scripts only enhance what you have. I tire of repeating this.
And I'm tired of repeating that even the slighest bit of skill added by using scripts is too much, no matter of the skill required to do it. It's "skill-4-free", and even the slightest amount of that is simply wrong in my eyes.
Oh, btw hand-eye coordination: If you use a script slightly replacing finger spped, you replace hand-eye coordination simply because you have to track the target for a shorter time (pistol | blink/slash).
Problem of publical distribution: As I said, not everyone goes to these forums. So, "public availabilty" = "ingame availabilty", needing developer's goodwill. As long as the developer does not make it available like that it got the same status as Wallhack/Aimbot, in my eyes.
And about your "omg u just cannot take to be owned!!1!!11": Well, If someone kills me by using his real skill without any scripting, that's OK. If someone NEEDS a script to do this, well... look at my sig...

While you are right in suggesting that there are SOME people that could not repeat a scripted event (such as blinking and switching to swipe before getting near their target etc.), the fact that they don't learn how to do it normally isn't a matter of skill, but laziness.
And lets get this really clear... you're referring to people who know the game enough to use scripts for specific purposes that someone who is *completely* new to the game wouldn't know about. A person who is new to the game would gain NOTHING from such scripts. Someone who has already developed your so called "skills" can.
It's laziness. Pure and simple. People replace functions that would require multiple effort in an attempt to avoid the extra work.
While you can easily compare scripting to cheating in a sense that both grant abilities that are normally excluded from the base game, only one abuses the code and provides an unfair level of advantage. People could argue till they're blue in the face about whether it is appropriate to give people advantages (re: people arguing that if scripts should be freely available, so should aimbots etc.), it's all moot point when you view it from a professional sport perspective.
All professional sports have had developments... acts of "streamlining" as it were. Not so recently, swimmers were presented with the availability of full-body streamline suits with lowered water friction. Is this "cheating"? Never was it considered cheating, as it wasn't completely overriding the rules set to be enforced, but it was considered unfair for quite some time.
It didn't change the fact that the swimmers were already world-professionals, but when it was accepted, the level of competition was increased to a new level.
I'm not suggesting a similar result would come round if we all just suddenly up and said "omg scripts 4 teh win!", but that acting like a Luddite who's afraid of electricity replacing candles is just stupid. There's no replacement for hard work, raw skill and the teamwork required by the competitive level of NS. If that's not good enough for you, then sad-mojo-sadness for you.
Bhop scripts, leap/blink scripts... The real question is, what is the script for the "run faster than a skulk" script for marines? I have made attempts at scripting it myself, but it hasn't come out quite the way I have wanted it. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo--> Any suggestions?
