Skill Vs Luck

Ok maybe i'm not the only one but i find ns very weird sometimes...

Lmg is soo random, sometimes i kill 3 skulks in a row with one clip and my aim isn't perfect and othertimes i shoot 50 bullets in one skulk and my aim is god like but i get no kill

Same goes for shotgun, i can swear i missed and i get the kill
Sometimes i pinch myself for being so damn perfect in my aim but make no kill...

Sometimes i go fade and my swipe really misses patheticaly and i magicaly own the whole team

Killing fade with shotgun takes 2 hits but goes up to 10 hits? Same round, same ups.

Now lerk spores! I can't see **** cos of green everywhere but my health doesn't go down othertimes, i see no green at all and hp drops

Xeno next! Wow i just got pushed 10 ft in air but recieve no damage at all and next xeno is 15 ft away and i die instantly.

And the range seems so random as for skulk bites
Sometimes i bite a marine 6 times and no damage is done and other times i'm 6 feet away and kill

And why the hell sometimes 2 bites comes too quickly or 2 shotgun hits like auto fire <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Is it ping?
Is it the server?
Is it my com?
The others coms?
Steam network?

Change the engine, make fix, but now when you get to point of being very skillfull,
the only thing that mathers to be the best is luck.

My scores vary from 50-3 to 2-18

I rather have less skill and more luck and its sad

    Lag, depends on what upgrades they/you have, and of course the shotty pellets go everywhere.

    i dont know, it feels like they changed something with ns 3.0 and the skulks bite...in 2.0 you didnt have to be dead center, but in 3.0 it seems like you do <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Good players get luckier. If 2 skulks ambush you when you are building a rt by yourself and you kill both its luck, but your skill gave you the chance to be lucky.

    Seems like the hitboxes lag behind, but yes I agree, situations can be very very wonky like that at times.

    sometimes sprites of explosions or spores are just not shown due to the entity limitation and compression system.
    Sometimes lag does werid things.

    yeah welcome to 3.0, where anything has a chance of not registering. It's definately worst with Shotgun and bites.

    xeno though, that's explainable, there was likely a brush between the center of you and the center of the skulk, which would let you see the xeno but it wouldn't do damage because the game thinks there's a wall between you (something blocking the xeno, like a pillar)... although xeno is randomly weird sometimes I agree, same with Siege Turrets, sometimes you can be 30 feet away and it will kill you and sometimes you can be real close and take no damage. Like yesterday in a pug I was fade and I was near the hive (which was being sieged) for probably 3 siege shots, then on the last one I was pretty far away, probably 15-20 feet and they killed me. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo--> GG

    I think you have to be on the same level as the thing the siege is targeting to be damaged by splash damage. I could be wrong about that, though.

    Yeah that's what I've heard too, Lost, but the thing is, this was Cargo hive on Veil and the sieges were shooting the hive, I was a fade on the ground, south of the res node... so.. it was kinda weird <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Maybe you landed on the railing around the res node while blinking around and didn't realize it. Anyway, I just tested it, threw up eclipse hive while standing underneath it with 3 sieges around, and I took no damage.

    At even levels of competition, fluke plays a huge role in determining who wins.

    Well i guess everything normal.
    I guess next chapter is to know these flaws and change my aim a bit,
    but it's pretty hard when graphics arn't exactly whats in real time.

    Maybe that what experience gives you, I've been playing for a bit less than 6 months but always been very good in fps's...guess i'll have to get more play time to counter theses flaws

    But what's more important is will they ever make an online FPS with zero ping, no bugs
    instead of super cool graphics?

    Right now, every other games do some kind of flaws.
    UT graphics are not more respective much more than real time
    CS is almost ridiculous concerning same manner
    Quake3 did a pretty good job actually

    Will next gen online FPS's offer more than better looks, cos i admit
    Far Cry looks to be a promissing engine for outside mods
    Doom 3 beta looked very nice but does it play good on net?
    UT2004 is mindblowing for the speed the engine reacts to, net is ok, maps are large
    HL2 i hope its more than just skins in higher res hehe

    If you stand UNDER a location being sieged you will take little or no damage. The siege explosions slash horizontal damage planes across a fairly high range, so it is generally adviseable to either be over or under a target, NOT beside it.

    The only thing I can add is that it has happened to me with the shotgun.

    I see a <!--emo&::skulk::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/skulk.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='skulk.gif' /><!--endemo--> running sideways and i take a shot <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='asrifle.gif' /><!--endemo--> from 8-10 feet away, I see sparks fly off this guy's model like when you would hit a wall. I know I didnt hurt him becuase there was no blood splat.
    <this was confirmed when I asked if I had hit him and he said no>

    And your right sieges are funky, I'll be 20 feet away and die from the first seige shot or I will be 2 feet away as a gorge healing the think and I wont die.

    Never had trouble with not seeing a lerk's spores as far as I know.


    Not sure what the problem is (lag, bug, etc.) but all I know is that if there is a blood splat you most likely hit him, otherwise you most likely missed. (unless you chewing on a heavy armor, you can never get blood out of them)

    I've killed many skulks with "missed" sg hits, i think it'sthe lagged hitboxes...

    For the LMG i've sometimes, like you do, had perfect aim and guess what? i died from 1 skulk...

    Normaly i tend to own 1-2 skulks on pub servers...sometimes this is wierd.

    Yesterday i was playing on one of my fav NS_ servers with 10-20 ping and i kept dieing of the smae skulk, it was like i couldnt hit it at all. All the other skulks, lerks and other was killed like normaly wth?

    I played clan matches, pugs and pubs and i gotta say difficulty doesn't really change.
    Ok the skill mark is higher in scrims but since the team is usually better than on pubs overall game play doesn't get harder.

    Most of the time i own pubs pretty much same goes for scrims, pugs, etc.

    But like what i said to start the tread my scores vary a lot

    2-18 yesterday and next game 25-5 oh well

    The hitbox bug is the most infamous NS lottery item, you have a chance of getting it at about 1/20. There are other oddities, like shotgun sparks (this is sometimes the result of bugged hitboxes and at other times a seperate problem), or sometimes your bullets will go right through your target at point blank range. There are times when you will get stuck on invisible walls or on the middle of a ramp or on a building for no particular reason - or another player might trap you even though it should not happen in theory.

    To an extent, you can learn and understand the quirks of NS. You could even apply your knowledge in-game to get 'unfair' advantages, because you are making use of physics that should not exist in NS (not bunnyhopping, which Flayra left in on purpose, at least for aliens). However, in the majority of the circumstances, events are too unpredictable to be taken advantage of, such as object positions and vectors for velocity and acceleration. Then there are aspects of netcode and game code..

    A fluke is an accident, an event which nobody purposely made happen. An exploit is the intentional and reliable use of quirks to affect gameplay.

    I've yet to encounter bad hit registration with shotguns. I play in the same few servers and my ping is generally <50.

    Practis, but the most probably answer is that you have got a wpn lvl 3 when u kill 3 skulk and when you only kill one you have no wpn lvl1, this or that those skulks were already hurt

    Worst case of "sparking" I've had was when I hit a skulk with all 8 shots and nothing! He had celerity and I hear celerity can really effect the hitbox.

    The pings were 60ish.

    but i have seen some people totaling aiming off, not kill them, get raped, then blame it on the bug after not even shooting near them...

    Skill Vs Luck i really think that skilled players do have the luck with them everytime, they can control it to change your luck to bad, and then, they kill U!!!!!
