This is gonna be real hard. It is easily the strangest and deep down terrifying thing that has ever happened to me. I was just lying in bed trying to sleep and I started to think about it and I just started crying. Listen, im not an emotional type guy, but this, I can't explain it. I gotta tell it.
Both me and my father are avid hunters. My whole family really. We have a nice piece of property deep in the woods, about 2 hours drive by ATV off the highway, it's the only way to get there. Me and my father were going on the annual hunting trip, a weekend in the woods. We both are driving, we must be about an hour into the drive when I see my fathers ATV slide out from under itself. I mean, the ground just gave. Having terrible reation time, I follow. The time is about mid-November and its just had a good cold snap. However, it had rained very heavily a few nights before and the ground was very sloppy. We ended up in the crater of an uprooted tree. This thing was deep, must of been 4-5 ft of water in it. We went through the thin ice easy. Needless to say, the ATV's were done. We were wet and cold, but not injured. We were aware that there was a major snowstorm coming our way, but we knew we could get to the camp easily ahead of it and we could use the snowmobile we keep there to get around if it was really bad. Now we were cold and trying to outrun a killer storm. We set off and arrived at the camp after about 3 hours of hiking. We were nearly hypothermic, but we got a fire goin easy enough. It was now dusk. We had changed, and were about to bed down when we started to hear the storm really pick up. Blowing hard, real hard and snowing just as much. We admired it for awhile before goin to sleep. We both woke up at the same time. It was now 1:27 AM. It wasnt a noise, it was a feeling. We havnt talked about it much, probably never will, but the best we can come up with is a deep sensation of dread. As though you had a trip to the dentist, only much worse. The storm hadn't died down a bit. We had to re-kindle the fire, and this is where it gets really nuts. Christ im crying again. We saw things out in the storm. Huge things. Shadows. And God there were so many of them. But it wasnt their presence, it was that feeling of dread. But now it wasnt just there, it was like that feeling was trying to reach up and strangle me. It was numbing. Neither of us knows how long they stayed, we agree more than half an hour but less than two. All they did was move around. They were circling. The whole time just circling like sharks. It was a sleepless night. In the morning, we just got on the snowmobile and got out. There were no signs of them. We told the rest of the family the story, but without the shadows.
Ive never really told anyone that story, but I do feel better now.

p.s. imm have nightmares
p.s.s. sorry i dont have anything conforting to say
PS: Golems would never do something like that. Necromantic constructs are our friends. They just get a bad rap because of a few irresponsible magi that order them to do nasty things.
It was probably just my sleep addeld mind playing tricks on me..
OR ZOMBIES!!
TELL ME WHERE YOU WERE SO I CAN PREPARE FOR THE SOLANUM OUTBREAK RIGHT FREAKIN' NOW!!
I need to stop reading the Zombie Survival Guide...
And before you say it, maybe I don't want to take the effort needed to move my finger 7/16ths of an inch.
Besides, I usually just hold Shift.
Listen, I dunno. There were no options. It was easily the worst feeling of my life. I couldn't move. I was deer in the headlights terrified.
By the way, how recent was this? Because I was somewhere last weekend that had a large snow-storm comming in, and a god-awful wind.
Most likely it was just shadows. Stress can indeed cause you to see and hear things that aren't there, especially in a new and more alien environment than what you're accustomed to (city -> woods). Its happened to me several times.
Some others may suggest it might have been demons/evil spirits/whatnot.
I think it was John Romero.
(Just trying to lighten the mood and make you feel a little better, as I really don't have anything to say that could help you out).
I don't know much about American woods, could it have been wolves?
Yes, I too have the Zombie Survival Guide <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->
The creeper thing about your story from my prespective is not what you may or may not have been seeing, but just the anguish it caused you and your dad. Its a strange thing to encounter a situation that just scares the crap out of you in situations that you would normally not be concerned highly about.
I remeber a couple times when I was alone hiking back from somewhere and I suddenly felt like I was being followed. Even though I can almost guarenttee there was nothing there, just the feeling made those experiances terrifing.
r u serious? you never heard of Ta Ard?
LMAO

Try to find out if that snow storm caused any deaths before or after it struck.
