The End Of Days And You

What would you do?
Okay, assume that everybody in the entire world is gone, save a few small groups of humans spread out over the planet. A figure to work with is one "tribe" of about 20 people per 2,500 square miles.
What do you do?
Keep in mind that:
1. Powerplants will only run so long unchecked.
2. When the power goes, so also goes artificial refrigeration, and a good number of devices.
3. Fossil fuels are plentiful. With such a small group, its virtually unlimited.
4. Like powerplants, providers of natural gas will soon be gone as well.
5. Disease and injury are to be worried about; unless you know a doctor, medical attention is limited.
6. It would be up to you to contact other survivors. Following this, you'd need to re-establish civilization and, eventully, humanity.
7. Canned and freeze-dried foods will be eventually exhausted, meaning agriculture and hunting-gathering will have to be re-adopted.
So, at this point, everyone but your group is gone in your local area.

Assuming that the government of Canada was for some reason distroyed in whatever catastrophe that killed all the people, and assuming that all you yanks aren't a crater, I'd probably get as many people and cars as I can and head south, preferably toward California or south america, where all the seeds we picked in seattle will grow really nice. I wouldn't want to be stuck in Canada without power come winter (living would be doable, but it wouldn't be easy).
Going south I'd try to collect as many people together as possible, and grab all kinds of survival crap, then start the most kick arse colony ever.
If we survive a few years, and get reasonably established, I'd head to a funeral parlor and grab as many coffins as possible, then get me peoples to fill them all with teck stuff so we can bury them. Hopefully in a few hundered years the population of the world would up enough that people would be able to dig up the crap we buried and make a good go of rebuilding the worlds level of technological advancement with all the left over information we buried and is laying all over the rest of the world in wether torn peices. Probably wouldn't be too long before the world was reasonably repopulated and rebuilt, just without all the downsides of overpopultion and resourse limits.
Power Is Not Given; It Is Taken
True dat. I'd live the rest of my days with my friend Alex[or any others], being she's still alive.
secondly... get a few guns.. i would say mk23's
then.. go find w/e else exists. and wipe it out. domination is the game
Oh yes, empire of terror.

Party in general?
But man, would that last night be a party.
or I would just go back to the family farm, hoping that there are still some pigs left to raise....
once we get to our destination the tribe would work together to chop trees and gather branches etc, go search at other shops etc, maybe find a fertile place which already has fruits or other foods growing on it, so we know the soil is fertile to grow other things. get someone to collect seeds etc from the deserted shops close by. another group to build fencing (if there isnt already any) where our new location is. another group to start digging etc to prpare the plantations, others to scout out to search for clothes etc incase theyre needed if others decided to have young ones etc. (even though i hate kids i prob cant stop others from having them)
then go from there.. by then all should be set to keep the tribe going at a steady pace.
edit::
might also add id prob try to create alliances between certain tribes, try to start a trade going. eg- meat for fruit, or milk for water etc.. one tribe will lack in something another tribe has plenty of.. so its best to create alliances if both tribes want to make it through.

so on second thoughts.
i would find some like minded people, and obviously have some hand-hand combat to make sure they got balls of british sttel to be in my new ' omg kill everytyhing' crew called the 'reapers' then we would all be on motorbikes of course because.. i say so. and we lal have copius amounts of weaponry. but as necro pointed out.
swords.. swords are good.. cos they cut things.

Power shifts more quickly than some people think...
I guess I'd start to rebuild civilization, and I'd start by trying to control the ensuing anarchy either by supporting the most dominant faction or organising one myself.
When we're not all killing each other (and logically, we wouldn't be. Supplies left behind by the remains of civilization would be plentiful) we can start to put our world back together. It'd be obviously important to secure farms, but also libraries and suchlike. The immediate priority is food, of course, but to try to learn to maintain what's left of the infrastructure is important, too. It's really not like we have to start from scratch, technologically, and what we don't know we can learn from what's been left behind.
The business about power stations not being able to be maintained indefinately is more short-term than you'd think (perhaps not for nuclear power plants, but they're enough of a problem to warrant either shutting them down or getting as far away from them as possible). Where do you think coal-fired power plants get their fuel from? It's not a case of them breaking and us not knowing how to fix it, it's a case of the truckloads of coal no longer being mined and shipped.
Hydroelectric power would be easier to maintain, however. And then there's the obvious solar and wind power, which may be viable for such small communities.
I'll leave it there, as I could go on all night and I need to sleep.
MUAHAHAHAHHAHA
I dream of the day that I can play computer/console games in the 700 seat lecture hall on the projection screen
also i would live in costco, man, thats unlimited food in there, id go around the city in a large van finding people and bring them to costco, than jack some big rig trucks, fill em full and drive, drive, drive to california, get to the nvidia headquarters, steal their new graphics card and a kick **** comp, find that wind power and hope its enuff to power the card
As none of us know anything about farming and there are no farms near us well good thing for canned goods and grocery stores. If and when everything runs out we will make some awsome road warrior style pimped out rides and become a nomadic raiding party and live off what we can find lol.
There is also a large field would could be used for crops (also a giant lake nearby, which, with some simple boiling/collection methods would easily be drinkable. The boathouse has a variety of abstract items and junk which could fit a myriad of uses. The only problem would be electricity, and I'm sure one of the neighbors up there would have one (alive or not, most of those people are pretty old). Seeing as it would be a fuel based generator, I'd have the oil (or coal) to run it for a couple weeks at least.
Winter would be pretty good, since there's plenty of blankets and jackets at the house - and there would be tons of wood for burning (my grandpa = chops wood all summer, but never burns it - cause he doesn't want to waste it). If anyone decides to attack the place, I (we) would be ready to defend them with tons of actually accessible weapons.
[sure, you all want automatic weapons, but how many military bases are going to be nuked/closely guarded for you to obtain them?]
Then the summers will be spent maintaining crops and building a working generator and refridgerator (because no one wants to eat canned food and salted meats all winter) and building a wall around the cottage out of rocks from the lake (with wooded support structures, but supportive enough without them that fire would not topple the wall).
Then, eventually I'd go out and begin trading with other people, or just wait for people to come trade with me for anything new I'd need.
There's also 3 boats and 3 vehicles, some snowmobiles, a lawn mower tractor and various other vehicles of use for fuel/travel and defense. Of course, barring that, I'll go to the police department where I live now, try to get a shotgun and defend the police station from people like Coby, Moquiao and Infintium ). Then I just go with them to a nearyby still standing military base and live out there, doing the cool odd jobs and applying some of my university obtained knowledge to the betterment of the settlement (I'd rather go with option 1, though).
