i was told that anything related to night vision in the I&S forums would be deleted. So i might as well mention it here.

You're seriously saying that alien upgrades should be as useful against vanilla marines as they are against marines who have had 35 res spent on them? Would kind of ruin the point of upgrades don't you think?

It would if that were all of what MT did, and the 3 MCs weren't equally as painful to get.

I think MT works fine, though, just combine silence with cloaking, or don't move.

Silence is extremely useful in combat games especially early on. Why does everyone forget NS has 2 playmodes discuss? (Yes I realise alot of people don't like combat but hey it's there deal with it)

The issue is that it is less effective later on.

I don't mind though. Silence is nice for ambushing and all, but what I really use it for is leaping straight past a marine, biting while passing by - with silence it's much harder for the marine to know where I'll come from next.

In a game of combat I doubt even 1/10 marines use MT, not including extra levels in which it is probably just about 1/10 marines.

I always get MT first. Who can resist its wallhacky goodness?
SoF isn't my first upgrade as an alien, but it's among the first five.

And cloaking is useless once MT and Scan are in play, too... oh well.

    Cloaking counters MT.

That was only if you walked while cloaked if I recall it correctly, no?

MT is blocked anyway if aliens got sensorychambers now ^^
  • DumbMarineDumbMarine Join Date: 2003-02-16 Member: 13645Members
Aliens run around on MT freely, then when they hear a marine, they cloak. The marine can see them nearby on MT, and is aware that there's a cloaked alien nearby. He can either call for scan or run away (or throw a grenade or whatever)

Sensory chambers are expensive to spam and defend.

Silence is the win for fades.

No way is Silence a better choice for a Fade than Celerity, especially after the Blink change. You'll just be too slow to be able to get away from a couple shotguns, even without MT.

It's been here since 1.04, yet the problem has always been, it's USELESS come MT.

Yes, I know it's an effective upgrade while it lasts, but that's not the point. Every other upgrade is useful at all times. Silence is designed so marines do not know your presence or where you are. MT disables that.

It's already only useful to the skulk, yet why bother with it when marines already know where you are going?

I don't like having a third of my upgrades choices removed after a certain point in the game. Can something be done?

I guess that's why they call it a counter, eh?

I'm still a fan of the minimap-based top-down MT that only worked in a limited radius. Sure, it prevented rear attacks if the Marines were paying attention to their minimap. But it was better than pointing out exactly where the Aliens were.

What, there's no more minimap MT now?

Silence with MT is still reasonably useful. I occasionnally use it during a hive siege when rines are busy shooting the fade, to either kill marines who didn't notice me (if you come from behind; they usually all look in front) or eat the TFac silently (they probably won't hear you with all the shooting and the other aliens before you get a large chunk out of its HP)
And obviously, a marine will have a hard time tracking you visually if you have silence (leap up and directly back down). Marines who know where you're coming from willll be surprised to see you in their face without hearing the screech of a leap, which gives you a fraction of a second of survivability.
