Morrisons

<div class="IPBDescription">Rant Included</div> Ok, so I worked in Safeway for exactly 1 year until it was Morrisons and it was bareable. After it turned to Morrisons i left after 2 months because I was getting an abursary that was EQUAL to my wages at the time. I came back to Morrisons in Febuary after 4 months off.

My pay is now monthly, so i work June, get paid Junes wages at the end of July etc. This is anyoing because some shifts i wont see the wages for over 6-8 weeks. I also switched to the Morrisons contract, 4.43 an hour instead of 3.83 meaning im the 2nd lowest payed employee, open for exploitation. Under 18s get paid less than other people because age discrimination is ok.

To top things off at the start of summer 4 full time staff (40 hour contract) LEFT IN THE SAME WEEK, they have yet to be reaplaced, instead myself and the other 2 part time workers (10 hour contract) offered to help fill the void for a few weeks. That was May/June, iv been working 45 hours a week since then along with the other guys. Iv asked for days off and not got them even when i give 3 weeks notice (the minemum required to DEFINITLY get it off).

One of the high up people in the Warehouse department is a bit unfriednly (use your imagination to what it i really mean), he complains about every tiny little thing thats out of place even its for convience for a few seconds like moving heavy objects, but he does it in a really sarcastic way. Today I was sheduled 1-10, and 7-4 tomorow, I have been told that under 18s (me) can not work past 10PM or 10:15 (there was uncertanty when i was told, and that there must be at least 9 hours between shifts), I was given my normal list of tasks to do but 1 extra I was given 2 hours before I finish from the warehouse guy, I told my supervisor this and he told me what order to do things in, I done all my normal tasks till 10:07, as far as im considered I dont more than im ment to. So i clocked off, but on the way out the warehouse guy started yelling at me for not doing it even although i explained to him what i was told to and that i already worked past what i was suppost to. He gave me this rubbish that im suppost to finish the job and that its not a playground its a place of work. I also told him that i was working the next morning too early, he again wasnt having any of it and told me I was suppost to tell my supervisior when i left anyway as always (news to me). So I walked out and bumped into my supervisor on the way, he was angry but said hed do it.

So did i do the right thing?

Being ****d for work isnt fun. I signed up for a job on campus during the last fall semester of school. During the interview my boss said 'You'll be working evenings, is that ok?'. Yea I figure it won't be that bad, I'll work a bit after dinner, I figured the latest I would be working is maybe until 10:00. Until I figured out (through working) by 'evening' he meant '11:00 until about 2in the morning'. And I had a 8:00 class on MWF, and I worked T TH.

The sad thing is I could probably get paid more on welfare than working 12 hours a week during school for 5.60 an hour.

Hell yeah, you did the right thing. If you don't defend your own rights, nobody will.

I just checked the Department Of Trade & Industry website, acording to it, Young Workers (under 18s) may only work 8 hours a day (i do 9 -1 for lunch and its 8) so legally the shift was illegal as it is.

I feel for you, Rellix, I really do. I used to work in a grocery store, got payed ~$9.00 CDN. They told me I would get 8 hours a week at the least. That was not the case. Sometimes, only 4, sometimes none. Doesn't help that the job was mind-numbing, and, so I felt, pointless. My advice to you is, next time you want a temp job, look at small business owners. I work on a Christmas tree farm, up to 30 hours a week (good times too), and get $13.00 an hour, which is really good for unskilled, only slightly dangerous labour.
