Registry Cleaner

<div class="IPBDescription">Please help.</div> Does anyone know any good ones. I have some left over junk in my msconfig startup programs that won't go away, despite having deleted the file itself, disabled the startup and searched over and over in HKEY_current_vers / software / windows / etc. for it but only seeing my regular startup items.

I'm losing my mind here, because my 'friends' put a bunch of **** on my computer and set it to start when my computer starts and put it under my scheduled tasks so that it plays at later dates. In fact if anyone knows any good ways of preventing that kind of thing, other than locking the front panel of my computer which covers the power button and passwording windows, both of which I'm going to do, I'd be glad to know.

Anyway being paranoid sucks. It really does. But turning on my computer and waking up to my tormentors sucks more. It's not that it isn't hilarious, but I'm fighting a losing battle and you know, when you're me, you find that people love messing with you just because you're you. I doubt that makes much sense, but then again, you'd have to be me to understand. Think Al Bundy. Yeah. I don't get it either, but that's what they say.

I have Ad-Aware, SpyBot, and HijackThis. All of which I make regular use of. But HijackThis doesn't remove dead registry links.

As for those two registry cleaners, which is the better?

Only thing I'm missing is a registry cleaner, since Ad-Aware and Spybot cover me as far as adware/spyware and virii are concerned. Though I don't know how effective they are against Virii but I understand Spybot is a powerful tool.

First thing I checked. That and HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run & RunOnce

::EDIT:: On a side note, the friend of mine who does this visits this board. So he's going to see this and get a good laugh. I hope he enjoys it. Cause its going to have to last him a while.

Use both of them, they usually work best that way.

Spybot also has a built in registery cleaner you have to enable advanced mode and go to tools, then system internals. Scan it and it will remove any dead reg links.

I have this system mechanic 5 program... but don't trsut it.

It sent my computer to a month of hell, in which I needed to buy new HDDs and reformat twice.

I no longer trust "Registry Cleaners".
