hmm, probably broken ribs or ruptured organs there, at worst. the field gun used there looks very small. i don't think the US deploys field guns that small, but then i don't know jack about the military and it could have been a training gun, given how stupid that guy was

In basic, we were explicitly instructed that the area behind the breech was for the breech only. Should you be behind it when the cannon fires, you will spend months in the hospital at the very best.

There is also the possibility that the weapon misfired. It's hard to tell what he's doing exactly, other than getting a cannon in the torso.

could it be a hazing ritual? or a form of punishment? I mean, no one tried to stop him from standing there, and no one reacted to his getting his bollucks kicked by the cannon, so they must have expected/intended for him to get hurt...

Heh welcome to the SK's new weapon! THE CANNON OF SELF-PAIN!
Now when your enemies try to use this against you,the cannon will backfire on them literally, causing them pain! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Ouch. It looked like it misfired, cos he was getting up from loading it and then it hit him,he might have accidentally pressed the button or it was set on a timer or something.

The way he flies back just doens't look right at all. A normal fall would be... well.. a projectile. He should fall to the ground fairly quickly, not get shot back 10 feet. He doesn't even seem to be dropping at all while he is on frame.

you dont know how much recoil force such a cannon is able to produce.... a 75-80 kilogram south korean (if hes even that heavy) is nothing compared to that.. its like midged tosing <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
such a cannons projectile with 6-8 kilograms got a muzzle velocity of 740-1120 meters per second, newton told us that "actio=reactio" . 8 kilogramms accelerated to 1000 meters per second produce a nasty kickback. the long way recoil dampener took alot of the punch, but the gun got no muzzle break....

uh..maybe you can imagin it like that better. its almost like standing in front of that cannon and getting a 70-80% lower punch (the recoil dampener normaly reduces the recoil force between 40 and 75% so 70-80 is very optimistic) as the projectile would have, thats aproximate the force to expect, i hope there was a sandbag wall behind them

There is no way that there is that much momentum from the cannon blast to make him fly like a bad guy in a Dragonball Z show... The cannon strikes him at the end of the recoil, which reduces the amount of force being applied to the guy. I agree that he should be knocked back, but the way he is being knocked back is just awkward...

Which is why it is being used for training, and hence why it was being filmed. I expect the next generation of South Korean soldiers will have this as a nice "how not to do it" instruction video.

I'm still wondering whether they intentionally LET him get whacked by the gun as a "well, you won't try that again, will you?" exersise, or if whoever was in charge of safety just wasn't paying much attention...

I'm also getting quite tired of the "OMGZ, FAEK! PHOTOSHOP HAX!" mentaility we seem to have on the boards. So its cool, therefore it has to be fake? I've seen people yell fake at those dancing japanese robots from a while back for crying out loud. NEWSFLASH: Cool things are allowed to happen without the aid of photoshop.

I think it looks dodgy too. Anyone seen the Wedding Crashers, or the trailer at least? When Owen Wilson is duck hunting and fires the gun? Yeh it looks like that.

from what i can tell he closed the breech lock too quickly, or hadn't de-cocked the weapon before closing the breach. i've fired a cannon (much smaller saluting gun, but similar principle) and that kind of thing is suprisingly easy to do... if you're an idiot and not thinking about where you are/what exactly you're doing.

as for him flying back like that... oh yes... thats very possible. the cannon doesn't hit him at the end of the recoil, it hits him as it follows through. the saluting guns i've fired are about a 10th of the size, if that, and with a real load in them are quite capable of breaking ribs and rupturing organs.

Aleincow, as for the movie effect you refer to, they don't do those with digital alteration, they do it with a jerk harness, and they use much less force to do it than that cannon would have produced.

photoshopping something like that would be an enormous task, and it would be OBVIOUS. this is very legit.
