I can try to shorten the lines of view ... but I won't go far with that, because it is unnatural. And i can add little hideouts too, although I think this is part of the more detailed work, which is not part of the concept at this early stage.

    erm...
this was not a "maybe you could", more likely "you really should".

the restriction to hallways seems unnecessary in the eyes of a non-mapper but its not.

    1. more visile architecture mean a lower performance due to the huge amount of polies that have to be rendered. I prefer the term "waste" here because there is no need to. just because some people are unable to "fake a believable environment" doesnt mean it is not possible. take a look at official maps and how this problem is solved.
    2. ns maps should not have too long corridors for gameplay reasons anyway. to compensate long coridors with a lot of vents isnt very skillful.

You could do that with slopes though the way veil does it. You don't have to tie the map into knots.

    :| you are ... disillusioning me ^^

err well ... all jokes aside, by reading the mapping guidlines I found a lot of stuff to do, and have to agree with you ... (although I don't like to :-b)

I will have some deep thoughts about that^^

if you do it right... but Im not a bif fan of slopes. they might even look more unrealistic.
besides that I dont like giving the b-hop community advantages by this kind of design. but thats just me.

I would really like to create a short passage but I havent got much spare time atm.

Hey, we hate slopes. Big infinate flats are where it's at.

By looking at the latest design you have, am I right in assuming, as per blueprint style, the center of the map being lighter blue, means it is raised higher than the dark blue surroundings?

[Edit] In case you weren't aware, there was a 10 minute (?) item on this map on NSRadio.

Heh that NSRadio "Forum Junkies" show got uploaded today. I wish more people would come to the Mapping Forum more often because it sounds like the guys on the show don't come here often.

It sounded like they thought that it was really rare that people give constructive criticism on maps, concepts, layouts and such. I guess they never noticed the 249 page, 3723 replies Post Your Screenshots Thread in the stickies. Or practically every other decent concept/WIP that gets posted.

In addition to this, it seemed something out of the ordinary to see a storyline for the map as it was in its concept stages. So if you guys do return to read this, or for anyone who listened to the show; almost all maps that are aiming for decent atmosphere start with a good backstory. It doesn't have to be brilliant, but if you look over some of the more recent WIP threads started (take ns_foray, for example) you'll see that the best NS maps (immersion ftw imo), all have a decent storyline.

Some even write whole fanfics. Although when the FanFic is in a more finished state than the map, you gotta start asking yourself questions... [/self-depreciation]

P.S. On a completely unrelated note, I reckon that Scot would be winnar for reading FanFics. He has the intonation imo.

P.P.S. Anyway, let's get back to talking about Shebad7 (why the name?)

I dont visit that thread either. there is no point in seeing screenshots of maps that most likely wont be finished/released. if so you wont miss it in the regular forum.

Lies. That thread is like going to the cinema and seeing the trailers for all the kickass films that are coming out, and in some cases the most likely disappointments. It helps me follow which main threads I should post in, or derail, as the case may be here (soz ).
