I Suck At Personal Time Management

Not much in the way of self discipline
Long story short, I have a history of doing things at the last minute and/or not doing them at all. Purely because I find something 'better' to do. Case in point; I have two essays I need to write, one a week late, the other roughly five weeks late.

Wow, I am just the opposite Mouse. And I'll tell you why I think that is - the U.S. Army. That's right, a 3 year hitch with them would straighten you right out.

With the exception that mouser is in the land down under... and wouldn't be accepted for the army. :-)

Mouse, would you like me to put you into the self-exile member group to keep you out of here until those are done? I use it almost every time I have exams, I know that feeling about time management.

Hmmmmmmmmm, ok then Mouse, since I am the most organized person I know, I'll volunteer to give you a 4 week crash course in Time Management. You would of course have to provide my airfare, food, and lodging.

I doubt it'd help Marik, my main timesink isn't the forums, it's playing games, mapping, IRC. Pretty much anything I can get my hands on.

The last time my computer broke was one night at 11pm, I didn't want to go to bed so I worked out the cubes from 1 - 20 in my head.

Sorry to hear that even a royal tempban wouldn't help you because of time wasted on games.

I'll see your inability to budget time, and raise you chronic insomnia. Only way I've ever managed to get things done is to set myself up a reward system -- an hour of solid work buys 15 minutes of goofing off (to be spent or banked).

    And caffeine, lots of caffeine.

A reward system would probably work.

I myself am in the same boat. Spur of the moment situations FTL!

Whenever I have a paper or somesuch that I need to work on and cant seem to get start, I load up CSS. Usally within 15-20 mins I am incredably **** at the game, and perfectly willing to write a paper rather than continue to play it.

(No lie, I actauly do this)

Every time I need a little bit of motivation to get back on task. I remember my 7-8 bosses back when I was working at CompUSA.

All 35+ years old, doing retail. So very sad.

    Yes.

[EDIT] That and I'd really like to figure a way out of this.

I've been there, and for me, no tricks worked. You just need to give yourself a mental beating and get to work, good old self-discipline. Maybe you could try scheduling a message popping up every five minutes reminding you to get to work or something.

When I need to get work done, I keep a small kitchen timer next to my desk and I challenge myself to do 30-40 min of work without any distractions. When the time is up, I take a short break, and then set another 30-40 min on the timer.
