Give this man a cookie.
Anyway, Wh40k wouldn't really work online, for pretty much the same reasons I don't think the Star Trek online would work... if you're doing anything, trading, fighting etc... that means you're a part of a large organisation (Space Marines, Imperial Guard, Eldar fighting force thingy, Starfleet etc...) meaning you'd have to take strict orders and your activities would be limited.
The only way to make it a fun MMORPG (or at least, one with the freedom level of others) would be to rape the original storyline. At least in the Star Wars universe (SW:G) it's believable that you can operate like you do, but a rogue bounty hunter in Star Trek that can go where he pleases? Nah.
That said I know absolutely nothing about the Warhammer universe so the same problems probably still exist <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Just make it Planetside with Space Marines <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->. Well, Imperial Guard, because we all know how much cooler they are.

You have to be a <i>real</i> man to survive in the 'Guard.
Why is it when people talk about 'real men' it usually concludes with actions that cause death rather rapidly? :3
Two hearts. A ribcage of solid bone. Acidic / poisonous saliva. The ability to absorb the knowledge of an animal <i>by eating some of it</i>. Armour plugs into their abdomen. The ability to rest without sleep. Greater muscle density. Instant healing. Third lung.
Badass.
Because we're guys!
hope they dont fk it up like swg.

I can't speak for anyone else, but personally, I don't like hanging around "real men" that much...
I don't find it that badass for supermen to kick butt, though. It's a big reason why Batman is cool, but Superman is dull.
Dawn Of War sucked - no Dark Elder.
Dark Elder rule everyone.
Here is my modded Dark Elder Archon Lord - ready to defeat every single army at one time. (I had to mod him in order to be "model showing" for tourneys, he is showing his skybike, punisher, tormenter helm, and combat drugs)
<a href='http://www.teppla.com/steve/Henry/P009.jpg' target='_blank'>front</a>
<a href='http://www.teppla.com/steve/Henry/P010.jpg' target='_blank'>front2</a>
<a href='http://www.teppla.com/steve/Henry/P011.jpg' target='_blank'>back</a>
<a href='http://www.teppla.com/steve/Henry/P004.jpg' target='_blank'>space marines are weak and die easy</a>
(actually, on a non-cocky note: imperial gaurd are one of the few races that I know I'm probably going to lose to as a Dark Elder player - they just have way way way too many models out on the table at one time and are impossible to deal with)
Then again I have noooo idea how dark eldar play because they came in long after I stopped visiting GW :p
bit DoW has an expansion out in the fall, which has the imperial guard in...
the cold winter its called.. or something..
i like the look of imperial guard, no fancy bollocks, just balls of steel

You should look into 40k again, it's gotten better.
DE's suck against IG because DE's cant ever really field too many models at once, and we get bogged down in the vastness of the crappy IG.
Also - something you may not know about - every DE transport is an open topped skimmer. In the new rules this makes them very weak - I forget the exact numbers, but I think a S4 gun can shoot down one of my raiders. Not to mention all the arty an IG army has - if I lose first turn I might lose around 80% of my army in just the first volly of fire alone. (it's happened before with IG). If any models are my in transports, even if they survive the enemy fire and the crash - they're "trapped" in the crash for one turn and can't move - so aka dead.
But one of the coolest things in the world is getting a Talos (a heavy support choice, I field 3 of them in my army) into close combat with the IG. Since my Talos is T7 - regular IG infantry can't even hurt it at all. I've had one talos cut through about 50 IG all by himself - while the other 2 destroyed his tanks.
DE's are kickass up close - and the raiders make for very deadly fire platforms - but if you can shoot down every single thing (ie: IG) then we're pretty much screwed.
