Erm, these videos are absolutely ancient. Valve have already stated in a Steam update they're revamping every map and model properly. It'll look a hell of a lot better than that.
About 6 months ago there was the DoD: Source beta media frenzy. Hundreds of videos of quality similar to that, as well as screenshots were slapped up.
2 weeks ago, Valve made the announcement I spoke of. Every single map is getting the full art pass treatment, similar to some of the CS maps, and every HL1 model is being revamped.

I hope the do more to expand the game this time around. I finally saw Saving Private Ryan last week (yeah, I know, I suck at seeing movies), and now I really see what the primary inspiration for most of DoD is. However, I think they could do a whole hell of a lot more with the gameplay using Source than they could with HL1. Stuff like tanks, mines, setting up fortifications, blowing up buildings - just watch the last scene in SPR to see what I mean.
I'm looking forward to it nonetheless, although it's probably not gonna come out until December at this rate.

I fail to see how that would be anything but a remarkable waste of computing, to be honest. It's not like you'll notice how a man falls down in a crowd of 2000 other men. All I could ask for is a few more death poses, and bodies aligned to the ground (so they don't levitate when lying in slopes).
Anyway, back to DoD:S, I really would've expected it to be out by now. When it comes out, it'd better have some pretty good improvements. If it's just pretty graphics and ragdolls, I'm not gonna be happy.
Starting up Steam a few days ago they posted one of their "OMG look at DoD!" news posts. Apparently it was their first fully reworked map, and it looked terrible (looked just like dod_flash before...except with higher polied sandbags). The tacky "Cafe" and "Resturaunt" signs didn't really help either...
And does anyone else find the use of wires in avalanche as a "LOOK WHAT SOURCE CAN DO - WIRES!" demonstration? They're all over the place and serve no logical, realistic purpose. They're just a bunch of wires in there for the hell of it.

There are already animations that make the soldiers fly (the attack property is called "launching", I believe). Those work just fine unless you're watching closely as far as I can tell. When you have the scale of RTW, you don't really need a fancy physics engine that make the soldiers fly exactly like they would in real life, because unless you're busy zooming in on soldiers being killed when you should be zoomed out and prevent them from being killed (or kill more of them, as the case may be), you won't really notice it anyway.
