You decide *cheesy news music*
Well, I don't know what game to play, so you guys tell me what to do (yeah, kinky!). So, what game should I play? Never Winter Nights or Guild Wars?

They both really suck. NWN sucks more . . . maybe. It's hard to say.

That being said, I'm really enjoying Guild Wars. For me it's the perfect hybrid of a single player and coop RPG and my friend refers to it as Diablo 3 based on the type of gameplay. You can find other GW players in #ns-gw on irc.gamesurge.net.

I found NWN to be horribly boring. The single player just blows hard.

I've not played GW but as far as NWN is concerned I honestly couldn't get past the first couple of hours because I was so bored to tears.

GW looks 50 times better graphically from what I can tell. The player run animations in NWN are a joke and really put me off even wanting to watch them run around with their bandy little legs.

I prefered dungeon seige by far - very solid game. Anyway GW gets my vote and I've never played it

Keep in mind that NWN is many, many generations behind us. It was slick then, but it's terribly ugly now.

I did play through the whole game as a fighter (i.e., super easy mode) when it first came out, and while it bugged me that I wasn't playing BGII I still managed to feel satisfed. I tried to play through again with a mage, but the game just wouldn't let me - boss encounters are nearly impossible, and they never really let you rest to get your spells back. I really don't think they designed the game around the player being anything but a fighter.

Neverwinter Nights
Has awesome music. That's it.
Okay, it is fun.

So true... I always wondered how in god's name a mage was supposed to kill the endboss without being able to rest up before the fight. I didn't know fighter was easy mode or I would've picked something else, heh.

I've heard Neverwinter Nights is really good, and its cheap, but I've had GW for 10 days and have done nothing but enjoy it. I mean little else really....

Good storyline (though some of it is kinda random) excellent community (nubs to sell to, pr0s to help with quests, and guilds), and it looks really nice for the amount of gpu power it requires (excellent texturing, effects, and animation detail).

Pick one, if you want all online though, get GW.

Some of the NwN Mods were fun. And NwN at a Lan party is awsome.
1 thing I dislike about GW is that I don't trust other people so partying is a chore for me unless I find a great group. I also Solo the normal quests so it feels real loney sometimes compared to WoW. That said, I still love the game.

WoW is more of a third person death match than an RPG.

WoW is neither Deathmach nor RPG, it is, and shall forever remain, BOREDOM INCARNATE.

I got Guild Wars as a present. It's not bad. Not good, but I don't hate it.

I guess.

I enjoyed NWN, actually. Shame Aribeth had such a horrible VA, though. Her idea of acting out emotions was apparently to speak loudly sometimes.

I'd probably wait for NWN2.

I hated NVN so much, I really enjoyed the baldur's gate series though.

I found that NVN had a very confusing character build system. There was so many numbers and with that you have no idea on how it might affect the game. I just ended up pressing "choose for me" and ruining the game.

Uh . . . you found NWN less confusing than BG? NWN uses D&D 3.0, which is supposed to be much more intuitive than 2nd Edition. Go figure.

How on earth did you find the character system from BG less complex than the NWN one?

Neverwinter Nights was designed to be an easy to get into, yet difficult to really master, RPG. It was designed so that making a character was easier than BG ever was...

I guess I'm just not a numbers man, the hardest thing I had to do in BG was choose my stats; NVN on the otherhand, you have to choose everything including random new abilities such as parry and wizardry, stuff like that.

Since I have both I recommend you play GW. NWN, compared to GW, is slow and tedious. In guild wars you can always find something to do and it doesn't take too long to do it. NWN takes forever to do anything.

Off topic.

I was able to defeat the last boss of NWN as a level 17 Wizard. It took me several tries but it wasn't that difficult.
• Lt_PatchLt_Patch Join Date: 2005-02-07 Member: 40286Members
Alright then, easier to use, not less confusing...

Even so, Baldur's Gate is more of a hardcare D&D game, than Neverwinter Nights ever will be...
