But not because it was marketed as the ultimate gamer's pad, it just looks hawt.
What looks better than a frosted glass mousemat?

My 1 dollar white mousepad covered with stains and dirt, theyre like, battle scars, but for nerds
It's really quite amazing
The mouse moves like silk
Neither do I as of last week, my old mousemat was giving my mouse spasms.... not pleasant when you're playing BF2 and your fully loaded blackhawk suddenly lurches to the left because I hit a dent in my mousemat.
NIL IQ why do you use mouse for flying the BH lol @ you
Oh the innuendo.
I'll have to invest in a new one.

Now I'm not saying it's a miracle potion neither, and therefore don't spend amazing bucks on a pad. Base your purchase on esthetics and price rather than top-notch top-notch performance. There's a difference between a desk and a good pad. There's not much of one between a good pad and a very good one.
Unless the surface you're currently using is really bad I suspect a 'pro' mousemat only offers a placebo improvement. Besides; if you learn to game well without one then you're at more of an advantage I think :3
editted to add in half the words I missed o.O
Set me back, like, 9 bucks, and 8 of that was the bottle of etching cream. It works like a dream. Working with the etching cream is pretty scary though, it's got Hydroflouric acid in it, which will screw you up in some pretty hardcore ways.

The picture's not resized, and I took it with a craptastic digital camera, but you get the idea. The pad had a little resistance to it for the first few days, but after I used it for a while it's just plain silk.
Because I don't have a joystick, and because it's actually pretty easy to fly using the mouse once you get used to it, and because URMUM!

It's like ice, and two surfaces on it, one for trackballs, which is rough, and one for optical, which is smooth. And it's got a nice rubber base to keep it from sliding away.

Yeah I've got a func pad too. I <3 it as well. But mine came with my computer so naner naner naner.
Got optical mouse anyways (doesn't everyone nowadays) so a mouse pad isn't all that needed anyway. Still I do have a old one now, works just as well as the fancy "gamer" mousepads.
Actually my aim is better without the gamer mousepads. I think a small amount friction will make your aiming smoother somehow, well at least for me...
what more could you ask?
Even MORE silky smooth precision now.

Func pads are awesome. I use the rough side with my optical. It jsut seems to move better.
