I dunno, I've got an original black Icemat.

But not because it was marketed as the ultimate gamer's pad, it just looks hawt.

What looks better than a frosted glass mousemat?

Neither do I as of last week, my old mousemat was giving my mouse spasms.... not pleasant when you're playing BF2 and your fully loaded blackhawk suddenly lurches to the left because I hit a dent in my mousemat.

A good mousepad can really improve your game; they will let you track and target enemies much more easily.

I just use the absolutely ugliest mousepad I could find. Because it's VERY colourful, and my mouse has trouble on surfaces that don't vary quite a bit. Before, I was using a piece of wood as a mousepad.

Hmm, maybe that's why my tracking in NS has turned to crap as of losing my mousepad?

I'll have to invest in a new one.

A good mousemat will improve your precision. You move faster and the optical sensor or the ball is going to react better. I have a "gaming mousemat" and I feel it is a good purchase. It's one of those overlooked things such as a keyboard, but having a good one is a plus for comfort.
Now I'm not saying it's a miracle potion neither, and therefore don't spend amazing bucks on a pad. Base your purchase on esthetics and price rather than top-notch top-notch performance. There's a difference between a desk and a good pad. There's not much of one between a good pad and a very good one.

I just use my desk and my aim and mouse coordination are fine thankyouverymuch :p

Unless the surface you're currently using is really bad I suspect a 'pro' mousemat only offers a placebo improvement. Besides; if you learn to game well without one then you're at more of an advantage I think :3

Let's see, where is that pic of the glass pad that I made...

Set me back, like, 9 bucks, and 8 of that was the bottle of etching cream. It works like a dream. Working with the etching cream is pretty scary though, it's got Hydroflouric acid in it, which will screw you up in some pretty hardcore ways.

    <a href='http://seniorbreakfast.net/hosted/legionnaired/glasspad.jpg' target='_blank'>http://seniorbreakfast.net/hosted/legionnaired/glasspad.jpg</a>

The picture's not resized, and I took it with a craptastic digital camera, but you get the idea. The pad had a little resistance to it for the first few days, but after I used it for a while it's just plain silk.

    I've got a fUnc sUrface mousepad. I <3 it.

    <img src='http://www.func.net/images/frt_1030.gif' border='0' alt='user posted image' />

It's like ice, and two surfaces on it, one for trackballs, which is rough, and one for optical, which is smooth. And it's got a nice rubber base to keep it from sliding away. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I never really noticed a difference when I went from using a mousepad to not =\ Been just using my desk now for over a year at least. I might go try out a mousepad again and see if I can see a difference though.

I had a speedpad or something like that, but after a while the stuff which made it smooth came of...

Got optical mouse anyways (doesn't everyone nowadays) so a mouse pad isn't all that needed anyway. Still I do have a old one now, works just as well as the fancy "gamer" mousepads.
Actually my aim is better without the gamer mousepads. I think a small amount friction will make your aiming smoother somehow, well at least for me...
