Hitman

Hollywood Reporter and Reuters is reporting that Vin Diesel has signed on to star in the movie adaptation of Eidos Interactive's Hitman series.

Diesel is set to play Agent 47, the contract killer hired by "the Agency" to assassinate agitators worldwide.

"Hitman is a project that by the virtue of its DNA can and will reach far beyond its already substancial core audience," said Adrian Askarieh, who will be producing the film. "The canvas on which this adventure takes place is something that movie audiences have embraced for the last 40 years."

Currently working on the latest installment of the series, Hitman: Blood Money, Eidos and IO Interactive are set to meet with Diesel and his company Tigron Studios, to develop the next title in the Hitman series. If the companies decide to do business, Diesel will lend his voice and likeness to the future titles in the series.

If things work out with Tigron, Eidos and IO, audiences can expect tie-in game when the movie is released.

woot. vin diesel is pr0 and hitman should now be alot cooler. altho i did imagine the movie to have a more pale main character.

Dead or Alive

Tecmo today announced that a movie based on its Dead or Alive fighting game series is in the works and has begun filming. The movie is being directed by Hong Kong action film director Cory Yuen, who also helmed The Transporter and Romeo Must Die. Producing the movie will be Jeremy Bolt, who's no stranger to game-based movies with producing credits on Resident Evil and Resident Evil: Apocalypse. The movie's script was cowritten by J.F. Lawton (Under Siege, Pretty Woman), Adam and Seth Gross (the upcoming Devour), and German screenwriter Granz Henman (Harte Jungs).

Dead or Alive has a budget of $30 million from Constantin Film, a major movie studio and distributor in Germany. It is currently filming on location at Yuzi Paradise and Hengdian World Studios in China. From there it will move on to Hong Kong, where it will wrap.

Tecmo also unveiled the movie's cast, which features several up-and-coming thespians. Taking the role of series heroine Kasumi will be the daughter of Benihana Steakhouse mogul (Rocky Aoki), Devon Aoki. Devon's previous credits include Suki in 2 Fast 2 Furious and Miho in Sin City. Action movie star Kane Kosugi, who recently appeared in Godzilla: Final Wars, will take the role of Ryu Hayabusa. Gamers may also recognize Kosugi as the voice behind Ryu in the animated Street Fighter Alpha.

Other confirmed cast members include Natassia Malthe (Electra) as Ayane, Jaime Pressly (Not Another Teen Movie) as Tina, Sarah Carter (Final Destination 2) as Helena, Australian pop star and actress Holly Valance (National Lampoon's Pledge This) as Christie, professional wrestler Kevin Nash as Bass, and Brian J. White, who's also appearing in the upcoming film adaptation of Tekken, as Zack.

I haven't really played hitman that much (although I have played it), but I don't see how you can make a film about a game spent primarily monitoring guard routines and timing runs / kills etc to perfection and stay true to the source. "Thrill as Vin Diesel hides around a corner for two minutes!"? It's not going to sell a movie. They'll have to change it so much it'll become an action movie with only the names remaining true to the game. Might still be a good movie though.

Think about it. It's like trying to make a movie based on Thief. Most of the Thief games playing-time is spent sitting in a corner waiting for a guard to pass. It wouldn't translate well to movie.

Hell you left out two of Statham's best films: Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, and S-n-a-t-c-h. I don't think he does accents well though. If any of you have seen The One then you'll know what I mean.

edit - why is that in the swear filter?
  • Nil_IQNil_IQ Join Date: 2003-04-15 Member: 15520Members
I think this will all hinge on how well Vin can pull off an English accent.

    He probably won't even try.

Also, the random Vin Diesel fact generator is down.

If so, disregard my comments about Statham's accent. Not like he'll need to be trying hard.

Agent 47 is not British. He is deadpan incarnate.

And yeah . . . bad news for one of my favorite game series. Vin is good in some things, but this game and this film are really not his thing. I think Statham is a much, much better choice.

The shape of Statham's face is much more accurate than Diesel's.

I just plain prefer Statham over Vin Diesel, which would make him a better choice. But if we're using that as criteria, Johnny Depp would make an awesome 47. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
