Thinking About Building A Pc Over Summer.

Yeah, My macish ways have sucumed to BF2
Okay guys. I've never built a computer before, although I HAVE installed GPUS, Fans, Hard Drives (Although the hard drive I last installed was defective and almost killed me and my machine) and RAM. Oh and a couple PSUs.
But really, I need help finding out about Processor types with motherboard compatibility and what not.
My budget is $1,600 (USD, of course). And for the record, I am going through NEWEGG.
Thanks for any help.
Also, I'd like AMD brand Processor. ATI Graphics Card (Not really a problem at the moment, I have a 9600)

you can customize your own machine
print out the parts list
the rest is caek (or brownies)

Can't go wrong with these sites. Getting an AMD 64 3500+ Venice, Gigabyte mobo, gigabyte heatsink/fan, 3dConnect X850 XT PCI-E, Corsair XMS dual channel 512x2 for about $900.
Well you have too damned much money then. And I hate you. So there.
Agreed. I love 'em, but they're quirky.
You can get a good gaming rig for 1000 bucks if you dont splurge on monitors, cases, or misc accessories. Get an idea of the gpu, memory amount, hdd, and cpu you want and most of us here can help u better. It's much easier to tell someone if their plan will/won't work and even how to fix it than it is to make a new plan.
Good luck.
w00t, SLI 6800 GT's ftw!
147fps on the counter-strike source video stress on awesome quality.
Die polygons, DIE!!!
Since you're going AMD:
I don't recommend socket A. It's low budget, it's old, it's leaving soon and you can't evolve.
If you figure out somehow you have a low budget, go for 754.
If you can handle anything else, go for a middle/middle-high 939 processor. It'll work good and won't be outrageously overpriced like a high-end processor.
Check the core/process used. Depending on the different cores, the performance and power useage varies slightly.
Don't forget:
The cooling!
Either buy a boxed version that comes with a fan, or go for a good heatsink/fan that will do the job well, and that FITS THE BOARD. Good cooling = longer-lasting processor and is often more quiet.
Check if you have thermal paste (or thermal pad) with that heatsink. This will make for better heat transfer. It's an essential component.
Do you need to know the assembly of the processor? It's the most touchy part of the installation. It's explained on the package but it's sometimes hard with people with no experience.

OS is hard to install properly, cause using microsofts standard install puts about 12 different adware/spyware programs on your PC Not joking, you can check it yourself.
Alright, looks like this summer is going to be eventful.
