I need some assistance, for once.
I am looking for bands that are similar to the following list:

Lacuna Coil
Nightwish
Evanescence

I like the more rock songs, but I love the slow ones with the powerful female vocals.

So, if you know of any that are like them point me in their direction and I shall purchase their cds/download from itunes and see if they are worthy of adding to my already huge list of female lead vocal rock.

If you do not like any of the above bands, umm, I don't care I have plenty of other stuff, and I am looking to expand this time of genre.

Audiophiles assist me!

When I used to listen to that kind of music I liked The Gathering. I only had a couple of their records, but both were good - Mandylion and How To Measure A Planet

It's Short stories with tragic endings IIRC

Arch Enemy's Vocalist is a woman, but you wouldn't be able to tell if you didn't know beforehand. And the music is probably heavier than what you're looking for.

Alright, I am going to knock of the few potentials off the list and give a run down of what I will look for on itunes tonight.

    Not getting (already have):
    Seether
    Garbage (all three albums)
    A perfect circle

    Looking into tonight:(so far)
    Blackmores Night
    Entwine
    Maria Solheim
    Subway to Sally (ger)
    Within Temptation
    Heart
    Arch Enemy
Dream Theatre (I have heard of them, but haven't explored their collection yet)
    The Gathering

Keep the list going boys. :-)

    Female metal?

    Archenemy, Otep, Kittie...

For a beautiful (slightly punky/grungy) band look for the Yeah Yeah Yeah's. Love their stuff, especially 'Maps' and 'Y-Control'.

The Gathering are very good too as Maus said, try 'Shrink' as you said you like that slow and powerful/beautiful 'rock'.

Apocolyptica don't have a singer at all but some of their covers of metallica songs are amazing (done on orchestral instruments).

Skunk Anansie is incredible, I think everyone has heard 'Weak' and 'Secretly' but if you haven't then try.

I could probably come up with some more female 'rock' singers if you wanted, could always mention Hole, the Distillers etc but they are a bit obvious.

I'd suggest HIM, great singing metal band, some of its really soft yet powerful at the same time. The Love Metal album is very good.

Now that I think some more..... although not female... Smashing Pumpkins might work in a pinch. The greatest hits album + Mellon Collie and the Inifinite Sadness pretty much covers the best stuff.

    So you want prog-metal-ish stuff?

I guess try Blind Guardian, but not all of it will suit your tastes. Very epic.
