3.0.5 Hitbox Bug Theory - Spectators

I've a theory that when you spectate a player, this somehow interferes with the new hitbox code.
If spectator is like commander mode, a comm is really just an invisible, invulnerable player flying thru the air. The bug where a comm looses his armor goes to prove this (not detailed due to exploit).
So, the hitbox of the spectator entity may be blocking the line of sight. That is, the code might be missing one of the arguements for LoS detection that has it ignore specific players or items [via one of the numberous "Trace" methods in the HL-SDK].

However, for the theory to work the way you suppose it does, there's only one way I can think of. The spectator hitbox would have to be larger then the player hitbox in one or two dimensions, and then somebody would have to be spectating in first-person mode. Otherwise, it would be third-person mode spectating and it would only "block" shots on the backside, and I know that I've seen reports that involve different angles.
Just an observation, there have been many, MANY reports of this weird hitbox bug. I somehow doubt that all of them happened during times when people were spectating, but anything can happen.
*EDIT* By the way, I think I remember reading somewhere that command mode is, indeed, a really hacked-up spectator mode.
This sounds like something that belongs in the bug report thread, but this obviously needs more testing.
I'm 98% sure this is the repro needed.
I think I'll try it for myself.
I would advise others to try and reproduce this on their system if possible.
Looking back, I dont know how this could be possible. Teppla or jmmsbnd (good lord, those two will find this thread and flame me to death) can sometimes empty a server. It's very fun, infact I do it sometimes with my clanmates. But when they do, do that.. tons of people spec them, so I dont know how they could do anything with half the server speccing them.
good find to say the least... not that I think it dismisses those hitreg vids, what is the chance a marine was specing every one of those players? Although I have experianced hit reg that bad on many other servers even 3.04...

server has to be 3.0.5 for this to happen, i've seen it too.
go spec a guy shooting a hive, note that his bullets will no longer hit said hive.

I wish you woulda told me before I kicked you... jeesh.
the bug can be exploited if you really wanted too...
Dude, have you been asleep for a while?
it would be funny if it blocked EVERY player from getting reg though
But amazingly, on 3.05 servers.. People couldn't get any kills when I specced them. I specced a player name "irosefromthedead" and he was doing well, getting about 3 kills for every death. I was sorry to ruin his game, but he just kinda stopped killing.

ROFL
Thats pretty damn funny, but its good to know we can give the coders some direction as to where to take this... <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
personally, I think ultranewb deserves a custom title for his exemplary detective work.
I just got out of Bry's NS server, apparently he knows about the bug but will not change his server.
I specced someone named mag and someone named The Baron (sorry if you're reading.) And if PluQ is reading, you can testify to this: The Baron had 0 hit registration on a hive and I dont think the alien indicator was blinking because the aliens didnt know about it for a while.
Mag got killed about 3 times while I specced him, no kills, and considering he was at the top of a losing team with 19-15, I found that suprising.
0 Hit reg on each marine. I dont know about aliens yet.
Now does this bug happen from ingame spec mode, like when you are respawning...?
I dont see why it wouldnt, people dying is alot more common then having people in the spec spot, so we know that just random people in Spectator mode (who joined specs through RR) cant be causing all of the hitreg probs.
