<img src='http://xs31.xs.to/pics/05221/Update02.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />

You know this error?
Post and try to help me fix this.
But dont post any useless or "Norton sucks" posts.

what is the error msg? (As I can only read English)

Though, I honestly would sugest unisntalling Norton and working with either SVG or Avast (any reason you are against this idea?)

well, as I am not familar with just how norton can mess up: <a href='http://www.symantec.com/techsupp/consumer.html' target='_blank'>Try This</a>

And as I said, is there any particular reason you want to use Norton? (I realy would suggest another program, if you want a retail one then try Pc Cillin)

Oh, and are there anytihng in details?

You do have a current subscription, yus?

The reason i use Norton is because its easy to use and i have used it for a long time now, but i didnt get this type of error before.
The details are shown in the screenshot too, right on the middle window.

In my experience, the problem usually IS norton....

Norton AV has a HUGE bug database. It has yet to leave me in a pinch. I recommend you visit their site.

*note* If you plan to uninstall/re-install Norton, doing so from the control panel will not suffice. You must get the uninstaller from Norton which removes Live Update and everything else.

Six easy steps to fix norton.

    1. Download Avast, AVG, or buy PC-cillin
    2. Installing prior Anti-virus software you downloaded or bought.
    3. Uninstall Norton
    4. Update new AV software.
    5. Laugh at everyone who still has Norton
    6. Laugh at the HUGE BUG data base Norton has, cause it sucks. :-)

    I <b>think</b> i found the problem, after reading <a href='http://www.mcse.ms/archive182-2005-4-1537170.html' target='_blank'>this</a> site.

<!--QuoteBegin-goldstone+--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> (goldstone)</td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->SUCCESS!!! I finally solved it. It has to do with Norton's dependence (or lack thereof) on Windows' long file naming convention.

You have to go through your registry looking for every instance of the key labeled:
    <b>NtfsDisable8dot3NameCreation</b>...

Set every one of these keys you find to a value of zero.

Then uninstall Norton COMPLETELY -- I used regular uninstall (from control panel) followed by the Symantec provided uninstall utilities. I topped it off with a thorough manual search of the registry wherein I deleted every reference to either Symantec or Norton. (Note: I'm not sure the last step was necessary.)

Finally, reinstall the program again and it should work.

Sincerely hope this solution assists all of you too!<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Hope it works OrganoX, keep us posted. He was correct in doing such a thorough uninstall, as I mentioned earlier - it is absolutely necessary.

I hope that solution works for you. And I think I'll stick with my free version of Norton Corporate Edition (which is legal, through my school).

I have norton and it works fine and seems to do what its supposed to, don't see why it receives so much constant criticism...I admit it used to absolutely suck, I remember having "OMG YOU HAVE A VIRUS" messages followed by "OMG NORTON CANT DO ANYTHING ABOUT THE VIRUS" messages, but 2005 seems to work fine, havent had any problems.

Yes Norton frequently gets a bad rap. I run Norton Pro 2003 Edition and it hasn't disappointed me yet.

Hehe.. that is because you guys take norton at face value since it used to be good back when it was ranked number one in oh.. 1998. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
