Irc Channel Doesn't Work

curlydavecurlydave Join Date: 2003-10-21 Member: 21855Members
When I try to join the IRC channel, it says that I need to register, and it says use "/motd". However, "/motd" says that the MOTD file is missing from the server. How do I join the NS irc channel? Thanks!

    You need to register an account first, see <a href='http://www.gamesurge.net/createaccount/' target='_blank'>here</a>.

    Comproxy is my new hero.

    He is correct, once you register an account on gamesurge, then you ca put the
    <!--c1--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>CODE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='CODE'><!--ec1-->
    /authserv auth [name] [password]
    <!--c2--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--ec2-->
    in your on join commands if using hydra IRC or mIRC.

    Which means you never have to manually authorize yourself. Which is very handy, unless as of recently there has been uber amounts of DDoS attacks, and authserv doesn't always work...

    Currently, gamesurge is getting it's arse DDOSed off. This is going to make it somewhat difficult to connect until gamesurge gets it's waterfowl aligned.

    I'd like to apologize on behalf of the NS staff as well. The issues are unfortunately happening at the network level and as such aren't something we can control. So in an attempt to reduce/eliminate the tremendous number of virus and spam bots that bombard the channel during times like this the channel has been made +r which means that you need to follow the link provided above and register a gamesurge account.

    Again, our apologies for the "new hoops" you have to jump through for the next little while..

    Be aware that the mode that requires you authenticate (+r) is not usually on. We just flicked it on during these troubled times.

    Or for a decent IRC client, <a href='http://www.silverex.info' target='_blank'>http://www.silverex.info</a> (Windows) or the main <a href='http://www.xchat.org' target='_blank'>http://www.xchat.org</a> site for other OS. Which can also have the registration bits put into an execute-on-connect.

    The US servers are the ones under serious ddos attack ATM, if you are still haveing issues try a euro gamesure server such as this one: Reflex.UK.EU.GameSurge.net

    I have noticed that the url at <a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns/view?action=notes' target='_blank'>http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns/view?action=notes</a> doesn't seem to be correct.
