Saying the show is smart makes me cringe just a little bit. Their bits on things such as the assault weapons ban were just completely... off. Same with making fun of the Egyptian anthropologist's english. Though for the most part it is entertaining.

Used to be I would sporadically catch the Global Edition on CNN over the weekends. I never really remembered to watch it cause.. who remembers the schedules for shows on CNN? Thankfully though, a local cable channel will be soon be showing the weekday Daily Show's so woo!

John Stewart is Hal Jordan's substitute for Green Lantern

This is why Jon got more credibility than any news network. He called **** on the air.
The Daily Show is really the only news show I can stomach these days, the rest of my news I get from the internet (Deutsch Welle, New York Times, Guardian, etc.). Stewart is right about the ridiculous drama the news media has degenerated into.

By it's very nature a fake news show can be more direct and truthful than a news network. What do you think would happen if an anchor on NBC cried out, "Do you job for f***'s sake!" Watch that clip if you don't know what I'm talking about. Yet, of course, Jon was justified in screaming that out, and his audience really doesn't care whether or not he's vulgar. Saying that comedy can't be truthful or accurate completely invalidates all satire, and I love satire.

The Daily Show is more a news network then ether CNN or FOX as far as I’m concerned. He’s one of the few men in the spotlight with the balls to call **** when he sees it. He cuts people down with one well placed joke and reveals the mechanisms behind their schemes with a comical clarity. I think he plays a very important role in a society where few people have the courage and the intelligence to do what he does.

Definitely watch the show every night, it rules. I think people put a little bit too much stock in Jon Stewart's political commentary, though. Remember that he's a comedian. He makes jokes.
They're spot-on about crappy media coverage though. That Gaywatch bit made my jaw drop.
The problem with people taking it as their only source of news is that it only covers a very small number of things each day and it doesn't cover them with any degree of depth.
That being said, the Daily Show is still fricking awesome.

It is perhaps one of the smartest shows on TV too.
