Router Help.

I need a new one, again.
Ok.. while I usually have really good faith in RS products(Yes I know they are not the only ones that sell linksys) I must say the linksys wireless one quite honestly sucks. I have had two in the past six months and both of them keep failing.

Nothing extremely damaging is occuring, it just sits in one spot and doesn't move... there is no excessive heat, no extra liquids coming into contact with them.

So, I need you forum goers to give me the name and price (US only) of a good wireless router, B or G doesn't matter. I'd prefer to stay away from A since I do not have a card that supports A at the moment. Also my internet connection isn't fast enough for A just yet.

So.. advice o gurus of computer stuffs?

I like d-link, they treat me well and I treat them well. no real problems(except on the kvm with a bit of loss of quality which is expected)

I've been pleased with the D-Link DI-524, and the Netgear MR814v2

Home "Router". Not an actual router.

Netgear are okay, 3Com are decent... but if you can afford one, get a Belkin Pre-N, and a Pre-N card. As I recall, the WAP will work with 802.11b if you don't have the N card. The up side to N though is wonderful... MUCH improved range, bandwidth, and latency.

    ....

If I remember correctly we actualy get a %30 off of D-Link. So with all these people touting it, mabey that is the way to go

(note: %30 off was told to me by my idiot coworker)

D-Link for value. 3com or Intel for features. Belkin for a compromise between the two and decent build quality. IMHO.

The Belkin Pre-N product certainly is the creme-de-la-creme of consumer wireless networking right now, if you want extra distance and extra throughput. You will definitly pay for this too. All in all, if the linksys product suited your needs (when it wasn't failing) then the stand 802.11g series prodoct from Belkin would do the tricks, especially considering that if everything in your wireless network is made by linksys, the Belkin router would play with that product very well because both companies share the same chipset (broadcom), so you can full chipset bonus's like express technology.

The standard g-series product from D-Link isn't bad either (not the 'superG' Aetheros product, can be faster and push out more distance, but this is done through channel-bonding and can create and be more suseptible to interference).

If you do need extra distance and extra throughput, the Belkin Pre-N product is pretty much the best way to go right now, other then Parkervsion product, which only gives you distance benefits, but is a little cheaper.

Personally would recommend the DG384G ... have had it for a while now, and have had not a single problem with it. (although updating firmware took a couple of goes cause the file was corrupted the first time!)

D-Links seem to take a lot of bashing, but mine has been rock solid.

I dont care about your experience, the Linksys WRT54G is the best wireless router I have seen, especially when coupled to Sveasoft firmware.

Single port router? Why the hell would you want a single port consumer router?

the pre-n truly wins if you have the $$$

i run 2wire at my place, it works as my wireless sytems are only printservers/packet loggers/web boxes (my gaming rig is cat5e'd)
