Wth Has Just Happend To My Comp?!
<div class="IPBDescription">ah ffs!?!!</div> Right this is really really strange.
I had FireFox open and mIRC open. Minimized them to desktop then clicked on my Planetside Icon to get that running. But for some reason my comp FROZE up i thought ah oh well, ctrl+alt+del to close the prog, noticed for some strange reason my CPU usage was very very high like 90% or something. Closed Planetside but firefox and IRC closed to and my connection to the net died but my router lights were on. Left the PC to itself for 2 mins then went to open firefox and it had completely reset itself, like it was a fresh install all my favourites gone?!!?
I mean what the hell has happend? <!--emo&:angry:--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/mad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='mad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

yes, but most likely not.
Since the begining of firefox it has been a good idea to back up your favorates. It's better now, but that principle has not changed.

Yeah, because something minor like losing your preferences and favourites (which are dirt easy to back up ANYWAY) is so much worse than IE's blatant security holes and flaws. Whatever were we thinking? We've been living a LIE!!! <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Your profile may have just gotten corrupt, or something along those lines. Try starting it up with the -profilemanager switch and see if it still exists.
IMHO, FireFox is still MUCH better than IExplorer... it auto-cleans your bookmarks after you have too many to bother with <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

What operating system do you use?

This one problem compared to the plethora of IE problems is so miniscule you would have to repeat your insult a billion thousand times before it could attain the smallest amount of reputability
If you've reset your computer already, and you notice you're still unable to find your preferences, look in \Documents and Settings\User Here\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles and look to see how many folders you have. If you have two, check to see which one you believe to be your original profile and delete the other one.
What often happens is when Firefox crashes, it remains in memory, and when the program is started again, a new profile is made because the original is still in use. Then, the new profile is considered default from then on until it is deleted. Once you delete the new profile, the older, original profile will return to default status.

Then you need to find where your computer stores the profile for Firefox. It might be in a different spot.
Also, I forgot to mention that you will need to allow hidden folders to be seen before performing the search. The Application Data folder is hidden. To reveal hidden folders, open Windows Explorer and click on Tools>Folder Options. After that, click on the View tab. You should see an Advanced settings window in the tab. There should be a list of options from which to choose: under Files and folders>Hidden files and folders, there should be a radio button option available to "Show hidden files and folders". Make sure that radio button is clicked. You should be able to see the Application Data folder once that option is activated.
yay. Thanks MedHead, like you said it was hidden!
done and dusted, all my favourites are back to normal!
