Ong Bak!

Ong Bak, like many asian market films has been out on DVD for a year or so. I'm not sure if the re-edited "Tarentino" version is any better than the original.

Tony Jai the star has Jackie Chan like moves, with brutal Muy Thai technique. Thai Kick Boxing focus' mainly on Elbow strikes and knees. Judging from Ong Bak...they must go through a lot of stunt men...because some of these strikes to the head look dangerous.

Aside from a few "Movie" moves, his technique is great, and his agility amazing. If the Claim of NO WIRES and NO SPECIAL effects is true then this movie has the best stunts.

Tony or sometimes he's been called Dany...acutally jumps up on one guys shoulder(of course he's braced for it) and then runs across 3 or 4 other guys. Still a great feat of agility.

Some of the later scenes with weapons are especially stellar. I particually liked the Thai double sword style.

Ong Bak reigns supreme in my heart, because Ting dives into a fuel dump to seek cover from gunfire, which then explodes. Then I said "It'd be hilarious if he jumped out with his legs on fire and beat up a bunch of guys", which promptly happened. Ting is god.

Ong Bak is a 30 minute movie, well, it could be, they play every shot three times. The storyline is slim to nonexistent. The characters are annoying. The bad guys are laughable. The furniture boss? Quick get some more furiture! Out of furniture? Punch him? NO! More furniture! That's just my opinion anyway.

Well, fighter movies are really rarely about the plot. The fighting is exotic compared to traditional kungfu or such, and without strings and effects. And that wows me enough for a good flick, that has nothing exceptional or deep meaning in it.

Yeah, it's a few years old. I saw a couple months ago and have since seen it about 8 times (showing it to ignorant friends). It's not the best movie in the world, but it's REALLY flipping AWESOME.

I've heard that the American remake has a rock guitar soundtrack and they removed the scenes with Mui sister. So I made sure to secure a copy of the Thai version.

Oh and you know a movie is good when it increases your vocabulary.
