Winchester police say William Poole, 18, was taken into custody Tuesday morning. Investigators say they discovered materials at Poole's home that outline possible acts of violence aimed at students, teachers, and police.
Poole told LEX 18 that the whole incident is a big misunderstanding. He claims that what his grandparents found in his journal and turned into police was a short story he wrote for English class.
"My story is based on fiction," said Poole, who faces a second-degree felony terrorist threatening charge. "It's a fake story. I made it up. I've been working on one of my short stories, (and) the short story they found was about zombies. Yes, it did say a high school. It was about a high school over ran by zombies."
Even so, police say the nature of the story makes it a felony. "Anytime you make any threat or possess matter involving a school or function it's a felony in the state of Kentucky," said Winchester Police detective Steven Caudill.
Poole disputes that he was threatening anyone.
"It didn't mention nobody who lives in Clark County, didn't mention (George Rogers Clark High School), didn't mention no principal or cops, nothing,"
said Poole. "Half the people at high school know me. They know I'm not that stupid, that crazy."
On Thursday, a judge raised Poole's bond from one to five thousand dollars after prosecutors requested it, citing the seriousness of the charge.
Poole is being held at the Clark County Detention Center. <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Honesty I wish I were. As far as I can tell from the site, this is a legitimate story.
Um...how stupid a law is that? That guy must have been paraphrasing a lot, there must be more too it... Bet there aren't many fiction authors from Kentucky.
(Assuming this is completely true.)

i mean, how paranoid are they?
Also, his grandparents probably eagerly swallow the trash our government feeds us.
I love how the judge raised the bail when the prosecutor outlined the seriousness of the charges.
and WTH, last time I checked zombies don't exist, why is the USG tripping off a highschoolers fiction about a high school.
I would be **** at my grandparents for this one.
I'd really like to see what they thought was so threatening in a freaking ZOMBIE story..... do they really think this kid is in imminent danger of unleasing a zombie horde upon the world?
I can't say that I know or knew many high-school students with access to a full blown zombie horde. I guess maybe they hid their zombie hordes better than this guy did..... maybe he just needs a bigger locker.
Faith....humanity....destroyed....kthxbye.

Well maybe high school students unleashing zombie hordes upon the world is a bigger problem in the U.S than it is in Europe.

God forbid you read a Tom Clancy novel in Kentucky, the law will be on you like a Kentucky judge on a high school writer ("Hey, Buck, the book this guy's reading talks about attacking the UN building!", "Book him Joe Bob!").
*moves to Kentucky*
"Yea, this one time, this one guy shot a gun, near a school."
*Hears sirens*
"Oh no, it's the coppers!"
*flees back to Wisconsin, where stopwatches are mistaken for bombs*
wow.
that would be funny.
silly laws.
Sure, clever zombies are in charge of America. Zombies can't be clever. Oh wait...

They almost did this to me in highschool, but they never brought charges, just had me talk to the counselor and the resident police officer at the school, to assure them it was nonviolent.

Fixed.
I had a similar thing happen to me. In middle school I wrote a story about destroying the school and killing several of the teachers in it. Hell, I even used the school and teachers' real names. I got a stern talking to but nothing more came of it. This was before both columbine and 9/11 though.
After colombine, I had a similar incident (in HS this time). I had mentioned owning a shotgun (turkey season was coming up you know, and I hunted at the time) and for some reason ended up talking to the school psychologist, who felt that I needed to be out of school until my parents and I could meet with the principal. Fortunatly for me, the principal was not an idiot and immediately recognized the incident for what it was: hysteria.
And of course thats all this is. The terrorists have won in that regard, the country is so affraid that people think a kid writing a story needs to do time... At least in kentucky, which I'll admit doesn't have the most respect around here.

As much as I agree that sensationalits media is to blame, the government isn't innocent either. Poloticians have been experts at fearmongering since the cold war.
This is incredible, really. And all you people blaming the whole of America, remember that the place is big enough that there is a lot of variance in local habits. The states are as big as nations here, as noted by my British cousin who lives in Italy.
