If it's old, you'll get over it.

Edit: I don't know why that stupid little green smiley is there.

    lol at the green smiley

    Some increadible pictures. For many of us it's really hard to image what stuff looked like in color back then. Awesome find.

    Anyone else think these look faked? I mean, maybe its just because I can't comprehend color photo coming from 1917ish. They still left me with a distinct feeling of creepyness for some odd reason. Nice find...

    Let's face it... they sure as heck weren't fighting so they had to occupy their time with something :p

    I agree with CWAG on the whole creepiness thing; seeing those pics in colour looks somehow....... wrong.

    I was curious as to whether these photos were of the real thing or historical reenactments, so I checked up wikipedia...at least according to <a href='http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photography#Invention' target='_blank'>here</a>, color photography <i>did</i> exist in the year cited on that page.

    Still, I can't think of any history book that mentioned (much less showed) color photos for WW1. Does anyone else here have access to a more reliable academic document or better encyclopedia?

    It's a well documented fact that colour photography was used during WW1. It wasn't used extensivly due to the cost. Black and white was much cheaper so predominantly used.

    Even if this is just colorization, it looks pretty convincing and is still really interesting.

    I didn't know they'd invented color yet. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Pretty impressive colours, for the time. Very nice shots, too. Does anyone know if they had combat photographers, or if it was just soldiers taking pictures?

    I imagine the camera rigs were a bit to bulky and delicate to be hauling with ya when your charging over the top.

    Some from pre 1917 Russia <a href='http://www.loc.gov/exhibits/empire/' target='_blank'>here</a>.

    They took 3 B&W photos using R, G & B filters.

    Did anyone else see the URL and immediately think "All Your Base" (I don't know how. But reverse b and s and replace the s with a y and there you go. My mind is strange.)?
