I too am really excited about this. After watching the "Tank" video, and the "Apache" video, I can't help but want this thing.
Bad.
This function is what´s really going to define this game during clan wars. The commander is not a player on the field, he is more of an entity controlling and supervising what happens on the battlefield. He has a top down view of the map and he can call in artillery, drop ammo crates and set waypoint for his players. In fact, the commanders view looks like a completely different game, more like an RTS thingy, Command&Conquer style really. <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Okay, NOW i want BF 2 O_O
for some reason i'm more excitet about the WW2 mods (that will sure be made) for BF2, as i never really liked the modern combat (like the Planes in Desert Combat, speeding over the map way too fast to be of any use, but i really like the Lock-On feature in BF2 <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> )
I hope the helicopters will be easier to fly.
I wasn't pumped over it <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
And I love it <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
also for the guy who liked the commander thing here is the interface :
<img src='http://www.bf2wiki.info/uploads/BF2/BasicInfo/commander.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
<img src='http://www.bf2wiki.info/uploads/BF2/BasicInfo/commander2.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
one feature i like is you have to earn the better weapons, ie the m82.. you have to be a good ranked sniper to get it... so you wont get noobed by somebody with one basically...
<img src='http://www.bf2wiki.info/uploads/BF2/BasicInfo/menu.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
EDIT : and yes the medic can have an SA80 <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
1) The obnoxious balance issues will still exist. Dozens and dozens of snipers on every concievable object (Planetside was the only game to do sniper rifles right. Too bad the rest of the game was crap). Everyone else will run around with anti-tank weapons because they're one-hit-kill splash damage machines. Vehicles will be massive deathtraps with only passably useful weapons, which are mainly geared towards only destroying other vehicles. Aircraft will be a combination of 'Worthless' and 'Cheese'.
2) The game will have worse netcode then Anarchy Online when it launched.
3) Server management will be cruel as ever. Banning and kicking players will be handled with a simple combination Assembly and correctly solving inverse differential equations.
4) The commander will have no power whatsoever. 90% of the commanders will be ignored by the players, and 90% of the commanders won't care about their players.
5) Horrendous graphics optimization. Expect a dual G5 to fall to its knees sobbing.
6) Collision engine will still suck.
7) DICE will have yet to properly implement a parachute. From what I saw of the guy bailing out of a plane at 100 feet and not opening his chute until the video cut away and he was ten feet above the ground, this seems to be true.
8) Some of the most <span style='color:orange'>*snip*</span> 'features' will still be in. Don't be surprised when an impovershed Middle Eastern 'terrorist' sporting a badly treated AK and ragged armor, who probably doesn't even have running water in his house, runs up and jacks the pinnacle of aerospace and defense engineering, a $50 million combat weapon that pilots spend MONTHS of flight time training for, and then destroys your team with it because you got out of your Apache to snag a couple extra ammo magazines.
Yeah. Looks good, but it'll play like crap.
EDIT: And seriously... you want WW2 on BF2 engine? WW2 is the most stale, overused, unexciting, cliche, theme for an FPS game EVER. There will be nothing passably new to the WW2 series, ever again. Go get a REAL interest, because WW2 is crap.
And if you dont, by God you wont be internet cool.

Yes because I've never seen a game with Nazis shooting Allies with Kar-98s and Garands while a Panzer rolls around through 'GenericDestroyedRubbleFilledCity.map'

doesn't mean it can't be fun... certianly not creative by any means, but quite possible fun never the less...
It CAN'T be fun. There is nothing new you could possibly add to a WW2 game anymore. The gameplay mechanics are all the same. The weapons are all the same. The vehicles are all the same. Balance is always the same now. The only thing WW2 Clone #84923 did different then WW2 Clone #84922 is that the graphics look a bit better and they decided to make an even more historically inaccurate version of the same maps, including the obligatory Normandy map.
Even single player is fairly stale. How many 'Take your squad and raid that German mansion' or 'Destroy the radar dish' missions can you possibly stand, that always take place in the same carbon-copied mansions, or the same carbon-copied 'GenericMuddyField'? And of course EVERY game has the obligatory 'Squadmate is talking and gets shot by sniper' scene. Most of the objectives aren't even real OBJECTIVES. "Destroy these tanks". "Oh no you failed to destroy one of the tanks, the war is over, the Nazis won!"
The only possible new spin you could put on a WW2 game would be if you ran around as a Nazi searching for Jews hiding in buildings. And you'll NEVER see a game like that. In fact, how many WW2 games do you see that even involve the Death Camps? None. Most of WW2 is too taboo to put in a video game, what's left is just the generic war. And I can't imagine any situation that they haven't done yet.
The ONLY last thing I enjoyed about a WW2 game was Call of Duty's Stalingrad, which was only fun for the first five minutes until once you got a gun, you realized what a generic, linear, and ridiculously inaccurate simulation of Stalingrad it was. "Hey! It's the city hall (or something) which is conveniently located in this box canyon of impenetrable buildings! Oh, a convenient hole was blown in a flat, boring brick wall, leading to a useless hallway filled with impenetrable locked doors and only one way out!"
It'll be a cold day in hell before I ever witness anyone saying WW2 games are good and let them get away with it.
woohooo! ride the pwny!

So...uhm...were you abused as a child or something? Because you are one cynical man.
That said, I'm still looking forward to Brothers in Arms for the fire and maneuver tactics (heart Full Spectrum Warrior), and BF2 for the countless hours of mindless bot slaughter I so enjoyed in Desert Combat. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
If that is directed at me, I don't prefer any era, I will play almost any game.
I just feel that EA has done a poor job at WW2 games, as I've preferred the Activision creations Call of Duty and Day of Defeat over the EA created Medal of Honor and BF series.

Wow. You could be the most cynical, and WRONG person I've *ever* had the pain of reading or talking to in my entire life.
I don't know about you, but I've enjoyed my WW2 games. Maybe your grandfather died in them or something to make you hate them, but guess what: We can still have fun with it.
Second off, as Narfwak said, Brothers in Arms is bringing something new to the table. In fact, its bringing something so new, it hasn't been done except in two other games- one in which it wasn't done well IMO(HL2), and one in which it was done incredibly well(Freedom Fighters). Hopefully, this'll do more. I already know its doing many of those "Taboo" things, like, for one, showing what really happened- getting shot didn't just make blood spurt, after all. Sometimes skin would rip open. Mortars would open up the entire rib cage. Heads would look like exploding watermelons. Thats something I haven't seen in a WW2 game yet- and gore, especially for the "Clean 40s", is taboo.
If anything, you're just to cynical about things to have fun with them.
Yeah.. That's the biggest problem w/ Battlefield IMO. Everybody wants to fly, because its the absolute funnest part of the game, but there's only 2 or 3 choppers and up to 32 teammates waiting on them... :/
One nice thing PlanetSide did right was accomodate for everyone who wanted a vehicle. You want a Reaver? Go spawn one. That would be a very nice thing for BF to have. And it wouldn't be overpowered either if they beefed up ground troop's anti-vehicle capabilities...
yea but the vehical code is more cheesy then BF

true but!
If you look around and find a decent server after a while with some decent players you will find one! Abit like NS when everyone just wants a SG or HMG, they just have to learn how to make do and in BF how to pwn a plan with a tank!
