    I'm going to buy this:: my main reason::

    This game is not made by EA, and it still looks good.

    EA is horrible and I'm so glad the dudes that made Red Alert are making this.

    I'll probably have to play a demo first. StarWars games are very hit or miss.

    Well, now that Lucasarts made a mockery of isometric ground based RTS's with Force Commander I'm glad to see they're out to ruin the gameplay of Homeworld as well. Who wants to play a silly adventure game with a dog and a rabbit anyway when we can have Hoth again!

    RTS... *shrug*. Star Wars is just <i>ripe</i> for an Allegiance style RTS-flightsim cross.

    I cringed when I saw a Rebel cruiser never seen or described before. They've done this before, and personally, it screwed the game up (can't remember the name of the game thought). The idea was that Rebel's never had any cruisers as strong as a Star Destroyer.

    Infact, now having read the article, they've screwed up accepted fiction. The Alliance started small, and the Mon Calamaris weren't even there to begin with, and the Rebels had no fleets worth mentioning. Alarm bells are ringing to me.

    Infact, I see A-Wings. A-Wings before ESB? You gotta be kidding me. <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    and don't **** about it till u read the article!

    basically it starts pre-episode 4 post-episode 3, and there are NO missions, the article explains it better but it all depends on how u and the enemy play as such there MIGHT be a hoth or death star mission or there might not.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    Well that makes sence, if you were to progress in a game to where these events such as Hoth and Death Star battles occur or simply progress in a timeline to where other more advanced evente occur, than that might explain as to why they have the Mon Calmari ships and A wings etc or other ships for that matter. it seems that the whole timeline/chain of possible events can be altered depending how you play the game.

    Kinda like a condensed Civilization game maybe?

    You know there's too much Star Wars literature when you can parallel the Civilization games...

    I wanna be the <s>Greeks</s> Wookies!

    [yes, despite my limited knowledge of the <s>force</s> Star Wars universe, I don't think Wookies have their own ships <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> ]

    Those lasers seem a bit short compared to Star Wars fights (plus they don't really have the white in the middle, like lightsabres and blaster shots do)...I suppose we'll have to have them tune up the engine first. Anyway, I don't own any Star Wars games, and the only ones I can remember playing was a demo of some space combat simulator one and Star Wars Battlefront.

    What are you, the god of space sims? While I haven't played X-wing vs Tie fighter, some of the missions in X-wing and Tie fighter had me shouting at my computer in sheer frustration.

    What was wrong with Alliance anyway? It wasn't as good as previous attempts, but still, I had fun.

    What's wrong with it? I don't have it <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    TIE Fighter will forever be my favorite, along with X-Wing, but if DOOManiac <a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=87311' target='_blank'>sens me his joystick(s)</a> I'll try out all those newer flight sims too.

    As to the lasers looking odd: a few things. First they're the right length and so on, but the color <i>is</i> off, just not in the way you mentioned. The lasers don't have white cores in them; watch the movies again. They are too pink right now but the game is in pre-alpha so I'm sure that will get fixed.

    I dunno Necro, XvT was pretty good. It just didn't have the campaign 'feel' of TIE Fighter.

    Whichever one you played though, the TIE Defender was just silly, and should never have been put in. Bother to check, it had the same shield rating as the Imp.Star Victory. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    You do realize that it contains ground combate and a completely nonlinear campaign, right? And that the only resemblance to Homeworld is fighting in space, right? And that Homeworld came AFTER all the Star Wars movies and X-Wing and TIE Fighter games, right?

    Thought so.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
    That doesn't make it's space combat any less ripped directly from Homeworld. It also doesn't change the fact that they ganked BF1942 for Battlefront. Or that they did the same thing to AoE2 for Galactic Battlegrounds.

    Don't get me wrong, I like Star Wars just as much as any other dork on this forum, but they really stopped trying with some of these games. Which is a bad thing, which is why I won't buy this game.

    I was quite fond of the Balance of Power XvT expansion.

    TIE fighter is my fav on its own merits, and XvT for MP craziness (like giving yourself a star destroyer just for kicks).

    Alliance felt like XvT with the guts ripped out, to be honest.

    Looks good, but does it play good? Let's hope that this SW game doesn't suck like the rest of them (with the exception being KOTOR or course)/

    Looks really awesome. Sadly I'm only into really.. really really "realistic" RTS's that the units dont just stand there and take hits until their health bars go down (IE: I love <a href='http://www.codemasters.com/soldiers' target='_blank'>Soldiers: Heroes of WWII</a>). I like to see them duck in cover, not out in the open and take the same damage.

    Otherwise I'd pick it up. As long as I block the first, second, and third episode out of my brain and only remember the original ones, Star Wars is still really cool.

    Let's think this through:

    Homeworld: Linear campaigns. Star Wars: You choose what you do

    Homeworld: 3d combat on all the axes simultaneously. Star Wars: Pseudo 3d where you only have control over 2 axes.

    Homeworld: Giant mothership lets you build ships and harvest resources during the battle. Star Wars: Ships are fixed at the beginning of the battle.

    Homeworld: Ships vs. ships only. Star Wars: Spaceships can affect battles on the ground.

    Etc.
