Let, um... the games... begin!
So with the powerhouse year of gaming known to some as '2004' to some and simply '2' to others (), it's time to set our sights ahead to titles that look like they could make a splash this year! I'm already getting excited about some great releases early this year, and I think overall the industry should see a solid year, but perhaps less centralized to the holiday period as it was in 2004. But that theory may change come E3. Anywho... Some I'm keeping an eye on, in no particular order (and only games that have announced a planned 2005 release that I can recall):

Why isn't FEAR on that list?

FEAR is definately the game i'm looking out for this year.

I was looking forward to FEAR till I saw they video they released... It's like they just took DOOM3 and Max Payne and mixed them together, took the good parts out, and FEAR is the crap leftover... :(

In all honesty, I don't think there is a single game coming out in 2005 that I'm looking forward to except for KOTOR2, and I don't really have high hopes for it...

Dude. Kotor2 is awesome.

And dammit, yes, there's two I forgot right there. FEAR and Jade Empire both look great. Jade Empire was the win-win situation if KOTOR2 sucked, because there'd still be this sweet BioWare game waiting (but KOTOR2 rocks, so no problem ).

This is what I'm getting. WOOHOO!!!

But ok, games? I really want the new Zelda for GameCube (Nintendo might actually make something good for once), and the new Advance Wars for DS.

Oh and I know this is offtopic, but can someone get me an EA emblem an put a red circle and then a slash through it? It'll be the new anti-EA fanclub sign.

why u spending 1k on a paintball gun? you could like, upgrade your computer or get 30 games or somthing, but a paintball gun? I play, or used to play paintball, but 1k? Its really fun, but why not get like a Tippman 98 custom, cheap, reliable, cool looking? I mean your gun cost more than my car! Or maybe you just wanta kick my **** next time we play on the paintball field.

WooHoo, first off topic rant since forums are back!!

KOTOR lacks the polish and love that BioWare put into it. Sure, it's in depth, has a good story, has a buttload of optional missions, but it just isn't as impressive as KOTOR.

That isn't, however, to say that it's a bad game at all.

And for DOOM, comparing FEAR to a bunch of other games. Take any FPS you've played, they're all similar in a fair number of other games. Repetition is unavoidable i'm afraid, but they are throwing something new into the mix. They're throwing in asian style horror. You can claim the horror elements are akin to Doom 3's, but that's like comparing Resedent Evil to Fatal Frame. While both are survival horror games, RE (Like Doom 3) relies on cheap scares and loud noises to provide the horror, FEAR (Like Fatal Frame) is taking horror influences from asian cinema (Ring, Dark Water, Seance, The Eye, etc) and bringing it to the western FPS market. Whilst sure, the horror fps isn't new (Clive Barker's Undying, anyone?) nor is the slow-mo, but the combination you can't doubt will provide interesting results, especially coming from Monolith.

EDIT: If you've not guessed, FEAR is the game of this year that i'm waiting for above any other.

Because that gun is cool. And I want it. And I will buy it.

I used to have a 98 Custom, but that was over a year ago, that gun is for the beginners really. I've been playing Paintball quite a while, and it's time I've upgraded. Oh, and about upgrading my computer, right now, I'm done. I can't really upgrade it at all anymore.

AMD 64 Slot 939 3500+
2 GB PC3200 RAM
X800 XT AGP8x
Audigy 2 ZS Sound Card
Dual Hard Drives

See? My computer already is roxoring it up. I probably won't upgrade it again till '06.

Kingdom hearts 2
Final Fantasy 12
Gran Tourismo 3
and Resident Evil 4 are all scedualed for 2005...

Sure that isn't the most innovative list of games I could have given, but I still look forward to seeing how they all come out...

Also isn't the next Zelda for the cube rumored for an 05 release?

It's Gran Turismo 4 as well...

Final Fantasy XII looks very promising. As the video I've seen from it, shows a new battle system VERY VERY VERY similar looking to Secret of Mana (Read Inf is getting a PS2 soon..)

Also this list is lacking some serious S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadows of Chernobyl love.

Mercenaries does indeed look spiffy, but I stayed away from that since it's practically out already. I've got a demo disc with it from one of the magazines I bought a little while back; might have to try it out.

Pandemic is turning into quite the powerhouse of late - Battlefront, Full Spectrum Warrior, Mercenaries, Destroy All Humans, etc. They list a next-gen project as being in development as well, so they're basically doubling their game total in about a year's time. Well played to them. *applauds*
