I do know a place, it's only a few blocks south from the one I mentioned before. They have 30+ comps, and they're pretty good quality. They don't have steam installed, but it's an easy matter to dl and install steam, and I can bring a few cdr's with NS on it. I'm not sure what other games they have. Anyone feel like checking it out? I'm pretty busy right now.
Talking on IRC last night with some fellow vancouverite gaming friends, I decided to call up some internet cafe's that seemed to play games. My results: One guy couldnt speak english very well at all, and the other two cafe's phone numbers were out of service!

Yes, which is what caused me to completely forget about this thread after the downtime, until I was browsing around and saw it as the newest post in this forum <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Current Priority: Location
20-30 computers (or room and equipment to support). That's pretty much the only requirement. We can install Steam and NS if need be, and LAN is a given in any place like that.
there are tons of lan cafes in richmond, and there is one at UBC student union building basement arcade. i don't often visit the north shore, so i don't know any lan cafes there. the richmond ones are mostly asian though; its like a trip to china
i work at ubc, so i could find out what their rates are for a party, if we want to host it there
i doubt you'll find lan cafes downtown. and even if, the prices are probably pretty expensive, not to mention parking is expensive and traffic is bad. if someone knows a good lan cafe near a skytrain station or within walking distance of a bus station, that would do wonders. again, the only one i know of is at UBC
Out of that list, I had phoned 2. Cyber space was the one where the guy couldn't speak english very well at all, if you can visit them and get our point accross better, then good luck.
I phoned warzone, and that was one the few whose number was out of service... feel free to stop by and investigate futhur....
Richmond is kind of far for some people, especially north shore guys. I'll check out the ones on my list, and kill4thrills will check out the UBC one (can you?). All of them are much more central.
So are you guys planning on doing this 'spring/march break'? Unfortunately, the same break doesn't apply to us university students and would be a bad time (I wouldn't be able to go).
i'll check out the ubc cafe tonight and get some stats here tommorow as well. it's in the arcade, so if you are bored of being destroyed in NS you can play other coin op games. i think richmond is out of the question if people need to use transit
AMS SUB Arcade (at UBC student union building, next to bus loop) 604-822-3692
30 computers open SAT: 12:00PM to 1:00AM, SUN: 12:00PM to 12:00AM
going rate (per person) is $6 for 2 hours before 6PM, $5 for 2 hours after 6PM
LAN parties: they can reserve seats at no cost, as long as everyone arrives ON TIME, no more than 1/2 hour late, or they will open up seats to anyone. If more than 20 people show up, then they can negotiate some group rates, but must be more than 20 persons.
so....
lets have another role call, and see how many people are interested. seeing how 3.0 is coming fast, i hope we can have a 3.0 lan party cause more people will be interested when 3.0 is shiny and new
i have 1 friend who <i>might </i>be interested, and <i>might </i>have 3 others willing to join him...
so that's 3 confirmed, and 7 maybes
edit, got another maybe, i'm pm'ed everyone who posted in this thread with interest, hopefully we'll get some more people confirming they're still interested
i prefer to do this on a sunday. any date is fine with me. perhaps next sunday March 13th? 1:00PM to whenever?
so i can use <a href='http://www.mapquest.com/maps/main.adp?countrycode=ca&cid=mqca' target='_blank'>http://www.mapquest.com/maps/main.adp?coun...ode=ca&cid=mqca</a>
Throw out some dates, UBC sub is fine by me. There IS an excellent cafe downtown, 2 .. actually, about 5 I can think of downtown. Runs about 1-2 bucks/hour. However, if everyone is fine with UBC, that's fine by me.

I have no suggestions for a cafe though, we need some scouts.

I'm a wee discouraged here. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
The reason why this thread has gone on for so long is because the Natural Selection website, as well as the forums, were down for a good period of time due to the website upgrades. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

North Shore cafes = nonexistent/sucky
Being transit-accessible is a must.
Another issue: How long it will be. Some cafes might not want to reserver large amounts of computers for most of the day...
I would say the longest of 8-10 hours?
I did a quick search and found this:

If I get time, I'll check a couple out, can anyone else check the others?
There were a few others, but mostly New West and Coquitlam. These are the only ones I found downtown.
